Leagues 5 starts in a few days, and I'm very excited. I've meant to do a video like this for a while, but procrastinated until the next leagues was upon us. Runelite has a feature that saves screenshots for everything important that happens during your game. I would have loved to sync the timestamps up with how long each clip lasted, but that seems... difficult. Instead, I hope you enjoy burning your ears out to semi-synced detuned sea shanty 2.
Note: Missed the start of leveling. Must not have had the plugin enabled at the time. Leagues 4 was when I started playing OSRS. Might have started on the official client before swapping to runelite. IDK.

Great game. Only $6. Give it a try! Most of these were probably intended skips, but they still felt great to pull off lol. Neat wallkick at the base of the tower. No idea how we're actually supposed to do that room in the underbelly.

By Azura, this is amazing. I'll DEFINITELY add this to my next morrowind install. I'm so happy that someone finally made a morrowind combat mod that improves upon the base system and makes the directional attacks actually useful, instead of just replacing it with a generic action contact based combat system. Seriously, well done.

How the fuck do you backflip after bouncing off a wall?
If you hit jump right after you start the dive action it'll cancel the dive / plunge / sunsetter into a backflip.
This is very similar to changes that I'd like to make to directional attacks. I have some different ideas regarding the buffs for each attack type: Chop - makes weapon damage increase according to some factor of the weapon's weight. This would make most blunt weapons, axes, and heavier swords better for chopping. Slash - boosts agility. Upping the chance to hit with a wide arcing attack as well as chance to dodge due to lateral movement makes sense to me. Thrust - chance for 2x crits, can stack with sneak attack crit bonus. Since thrusts are delivering 'pinpoint' damage, I felt this might simulate hitting a gap in armor. In addition to these, I'd like to alter some of the weapons in the game to scale be able to scale damage off of agility instead of/in addition to strength. And I'd like to alter the rates of fatigue regeneration when the player's equipped armor falls within certain weight brackets.

@solthas thanks! I'm new to Morrowind modding and Lua, did you have any tutorials that you found particularly helpful in getting started? I opened your script for timed directionals in VSCode to have a look, but I think I need to take a few steps back from that to really understand what I'm doing.
@@Kuzushi42 My timed directional attack script is a mess, honestly. I would recommend going through the openmw read the docs resources which have all the information (although not in the best arrangement). Also join the OpenMW discord. That's the best place to get help. I'm actually going to need to update those scripts soon because 0.49 has added new APIs (spell support)... and actual directional attack detection, which means I can make it less janky. There is another mod someone made, adapted from my work, which may be better written and easier to read and modify. It's called Maxar's Timed Attacks (OpenMw 0.49). If that doesn't work, then I would recommend building things step by step. Start with an onInput engine handler or whatever you end up using, add a stat buff to that, add an async timer or some other logic to remove the stat buff, and you're on your way, right? If you hit me up in the openmw discord I could also help you out, work out what the actually important parts of my script are haha.

there's a few spots where I still don't know what the intended strategy is, even with all abilities. What comes to mind is the health upgrade in Castle Sansa near the theatre's front entrance (and also the worst room in the game). It's the medium room with the two stone pillars, blue torches, big sloping floor and the health way up in an alcove near the ceiling. No idea what the "correct" way to get up there so it's just super jank single-wall kicks for a hundred attempts until one of them accidentally makes it

how do you keep the camera over the shoulders in combat ? When i enter in combat the camera always goes over the character like vanilla
Using that sorta default or whatever over the shoulder mod that came with OpenMW? I think I modified it so that it stays over the shoulder at all times. Just needed to edit a couple values in the lua script.

Nah because it still has dice roll mechanics. It's more like "random mechanics that sounded fun at the time implemented via janky stat changes 2023". The link to the mod is in the description.

A cool directional attack system would be a minor debuff-based system. It'd pair nicely with a timing system that provides self buffs on execution. Things like thrust->slash applies damage attribute agility (tripping) or slash->chop applies damage attribute strength (disarm). Almost the inverse of this system in a way. It'd require some tuning to figure out which combos would pair best with which playstyles/weapons but I could see it giving suboptimal attacks purpose, especially in the early game where you tend to spam attacks the most. The system could also scale off weapon skill so that it stays relevant at later levels. You could use the same "perfect attack" timer to detect the combo string and it would incentivize accurate timing even further while also introducing a risk-reward system on top of it. Want a combo with maximum hit chance? You risk missing the perfect timing window and getting no combo at all. Want to guarantee the combo by swinging faster? You'll apply the effect but won't get the better hit chance. Players could mix up the speed to get the most out of combos. A quick thrust->chop->slash to sunder (disintegrate) armor and then perfect timed best attacks to do maximum damage. Something like that. Anyway, I'm rambling. This mod looks really cool and I'll need to try it out when I get home today. I've been on a bit of a coding spree lately so I might try to get a single combo working in the next couple weeks.
My original plan was actually to have debuffs depend on where on the enemy you attack. Attack their "legs"? They lose agility. Etc. Uh, turns out not only is the vector math a little complicated, but the openMW lua support at the time made it difficult to access the traits of entities you hit. I like your idea though. Sounds fun.
Where did you learn to script lua? I'm trying to make my own mods and I'm not sure where to start with scripting
