the best BC hike to do in the fall | a cianematic film
The Whistler area is so gorgeous, what a great place to race. And Xterra look so much more fun than a road race to me. Nice vid! Enjoyed watching your mini-series.
Right? Whistler is definitely one of my top favourite places - So beautiful! Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. I agree, it was definitely a lot different than a road race. Would you ever do one?
@@cianematics Road race? Nope. 😄 Off-road? Sure. And I have before - I did the Golden (half) Ultra a few years ago. Came 3rd last but it was amazing fun and gorgeous area.
@@76kilosofshade81 ohh no way! Golden Ultra is so beautiful too. I was there a few years ago supporting friends who did that event. Even though it rained, they had a blast.. I was jealous I didn't join.
@@cianematics maybe next year! 😄 I didn't train seriously for it, so there was a lot of fast hiking. But I'd do it again, just for the experience.
Love the drone edit brother and i am also missing those egss and toast with honey
Thanks bro!! Appreciate you 🙏 haha can't beat the eggs honey toast!
ok this is by far one of your best edits!! Loving the drone shots 😍 And good job on the race BB 👏👏
Aww thanks so much bb!! Thanks for your help with getting the shots 🙏❤️
Time for some bike shopping 👀😉
I like the way you're thinking 😂
Johnson Frank White Maria Lewis Susan
Awesome video, nice to see you tackling the bike trail with the obstacles
Thanks bro! I'm such a noob - they were so hard 😅
Good job with the training this week 👏 Wasn't the FTP test sooo fun LOL
Thanks bb. Haha, type 2 fun for sure!!!
Awesome video brother keep it up. Love the honesty and not trying to hide when you need to stop for a minute on the run. Keep up the awesome work. This race ain’t ready to be made your biatch
Thanks bro!! Just trying to keep it real 🙏
Our map reading could do with some Work
Hahaha give us time.. we got this 😅
Its peanut butter and jam :) but awesome vid brother
Haha you're right, it is!! Thanks bro
So happy to see you vlogging again 😊
Quality videos, how did you favour getting nice road bike as opposed to TT bike?
Thanks so much Shane!! I actually had a TT bike before, but sold it for a road bike because I wanted something more multi purpose and less delicate/expensive haha. I like having the ability to go on gravel if needed.
I've wondered if you ever forgot your camera after setting up a shot. I guess it does happen. Haha! Good luck on the build this time around. Not that you need to hear this but great choice on decreasing filming and focusing on the wedding. Congrats!
Hahaha! Thankfully that hasn't happened.. yet. 😅 thanks so much, I'm looking forward to getting back on it. The time off was a tad bit too long for my liking. Are you building now for CIM?
@@cianematics Not quite in the official build for CIM yet. Just in maintenance mode right now. The build will kick off at the end of next month. Thanks for asking
Awesome! Looking forward to seeing you smash that 🙌
So cool to see what Xterra prep would be like. Thanks for the inspiration
Thanks for watching my friend! It's gonna be a little different for sure haha 😅 Have you ever done an Xterra?
Not yet since I only did my first triathlon this year. But planning to do it next year here in Europe somewhere. Good luck with the preparation 💪🏻
The colours are 👌
@@NoNicheBrad thanks bro!! 🙏
Congratulations for the wedding!
Thanks so much my friend!! 🙏
Ooo looks who’s baaack 👀
Thanks for sharing - I made ‘24 Victoria IM 70.3 my 1st Tri ever and really enjoyed the event and your recap! Hopefully 2025 will be a little warmer to crush it. I’m a hardened Albertan so the temps were manageable with a shell on the bike.
Thanks so much!! Congrats on finishing your first tri - and being an IM event, that's really impressive!! How did you find the course overall? Will you do it again next year? Yeah I'm so glad I wore the shell on the bike, otherwise it would have been a suffer fest.
Congratulations and best wishes on the upcoming wedding!!
Thanks so much Michelle!! Appreciate the best wishes 🙏
I was there and the weather was atrocious, lol. My bike was covered in mud from top to bottom. I disagree about good organization. The shuttling was logistical nightmare. And swimming shut was too small with offspring lines on the sides.
Haha yeah our bikes were destroyed too. I mean, overall Ironman events are well organized from aid station setup, on course support, pre-race guide/information, volunteers etc. I agree with you that the shuttle logistics wasn't great with this course but considering the limitations of park accessibility, I suppose there's only so much they can do (we weren't aware of the valet service). My only real gripe with this course was the swimming entrance and start delay.
@@cianematics actually start delay is a norm these days due to self seed and 2-3 athletes every 3 seconds. In Oregon you walk to the swim when you wait and then your swim is 24 minutes due to the current much less that you spent waiting and walking to the start. Organizers could create a bike shuttle service, this will cut traffic in half!
Ahh that makes sense! I don't remember that much of a delay before. I guess the weather really made it frustrating.
Congrats on your race though!! Great job persevering through the cold weather! 🙌
I'm training for a fairly cold ironman (my first and most likely last full) so I found this race is very useful for mental preparation and arranging transitions. Who would think that you need extra dry clothes after? 😂😂 Usually I do hot 70.3 so this was new for me.
I was wondering what took you so long during transition and thought maybe you had stomach troubles. Its so cute that you waited for Em to check on her. Congratulations to both of you for persevering through this hard conditions!
Thanks so much Elisabeth! I appreciate you supporting us both! 🙏
During the first and only half iron I've completed, my shoe came undone during the run and anytime I attempted to bend down to tie it, my abs would seize up and shock me bolt straight standing again. I gave up after a couple minutes and just ran the last 10k with ultimately both shoes untied. Great coverage despite not being able to provide any video of the race. Well done to both of you!
Oh noo!! That's exactly what happened to me in T2 while trying to change my socks. It's the worst, isn't it. Good on you for powering through with untied shoes - impressive. Thanks so much, I tried to work with what I could get haha. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks again 🙏
Well done! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you so much Lisa!! 🙏
Very sore crotch isn't ideal.
This was my first 70.3, had so much fun despite the cold water, cold weather, and the wet bike course.
Wow, congrats on completing your first 70.3! Huge accomplishment! We got so unlucky with the weather. Glad you enjoyed it regardless!! Sounds like this might not be your last? 😏
@@cianematics thinking of doing the Victoria Half in July
@@Munts Nice!! I've heard that's a great event actually. Is the course the same? Best of luck if you do it!
@@cianematics The bike course is 2 laps on many of the same roads. The swim and run are pretty much the same.
Nice new video! keep going!
Thanks Thiego!! 🙌
Awesome video, keep smashing it!
Thanks Jack!! Appreciate the support 🙌
Im with you, i do prefer the lake to the pool 👌
Right?! Something so refreshing being in fresh water. I also loath chlorine smell haha.
You did so well!!! I'm so proud of all the work you put into this. It sure paid off 👏🎉
Thank you bb ❤️
Keep going man! 'm from Brazil and i'm watching all your content. 💪
Thanks so much Thiego!! hello to Brazil 👋🇧🇷Appreciate your support 🙏
Great start to a new series! I'm looking forward to seeing how this shakes out. I wish the Flames had something to play for still but until next year go Canucks! Can't stand the Oilers
Haha thanks, me too! It's a little soon after the marathon, but we'll give it a go 😅 Yess! Hopefully they can pull off the win tonight - Saturdays performance was sub par!
excited that we have another series!
I LOVE the technical stuff! You should see the spreadsheet that I put together for my nutrition. Looks very similar to yours in fact. Nerds unite!!! Congrats on the performance in the race. Good luck in the next build.
Haha! It's so interesting, isn't it! I love seeing it all written out - it helps to visualize it. Thanks so much!
Congratulations Cian! Happy you had a great race
Thank you so much!! 🙏🙏
Congrats! Absolutely loved this series and can't wait to see what's next!
I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thank you, I really appreciate it, my friend. 🙌
@@cianematics Looked forward to a new episode each week and the quality of each episode did not go unnoticed!
Haha! That means the world to me, thank you! There will be more to come! 👀
You did so well!!! Those hills always kill me too😂
Thanks so much Shay!! Did you end up running it too?
@@cianematics half marathon this year! Aiming to do the full next year :)
@shaywhite, YES!! Do it buddy!! Hope the half went well for you this year.
Congrats on finishing the race! Even though you didn't get a sub-3 like your wanted, you still got a pretty awesome result. And finishing a marathon on a climb? That's gotta be brutal! Hope you channel grows in the near future, video quality and content are great. Curious to see what you'll be posting up next! Good luck for your 70.3!
Thanks so much, my friend! I'm delighted with the result despite not being a sub-3. Putting a climb at the finish line is savage haha. I really appreciate the support 🙏
It's strange to be watching this after your race yesterday. Massive congrats for a great race and well executed training block. Rest up and then on to the next one!
Haha, you got spoiled 🤣 Thanks buddy!!! Appreciate all your support 🙏
I like your style! Good luck on your run! I am also preparing for half marathon, 6 weeks more!
Thanks my friend, appreciate the good luck! All the best with your half marathon. Those last 6 weeks are gonna fly 🙌
Good luck this weekend! You've done the hard part and sounds like you're in a good mental space. Got mine done yesterday with a huge PR. Thanks for being another inspiration during this training block.
Thanks buddy!! Congrats on your PB - you got a savage time 👏👏 sub 3 for CIM for sure 😜
Wow great video! Can’t believe it’s almost race day!! REDEMPTIONNNN
Thanks bb!! Counting down the days 😬🫣
THEN QUADSSSS 😍
Haha!! Thanks bb 🥰
Crazy legs muscles man.
Thanks, my friend!!
Your reaction to the tough workout was hilarious. Legit upset until you saw your splits, haha. We’ve all been there. 👍🏻
Haha it really was an emotional rollercoaster 😅🎢
Wow, what Garmin watch is that? Also how old is it? It might be time to get a new watch. I own a Polar Vantage V2, I've had it for two years now and hasn't skipped a beat, only the touch screen would glitch out, which I don't really use much anyway. Happy Birthday and keep up the work! I'm training for a sub 4 marathon, it's my first Marathon though so it's not a must for me. Good luck with your training.
Thank so much for the birthday wishes! That's awesome you're doing your first marathon - the first one is so exciting. Best of luck with your training and don't forget to take it all in at the end - the time goes by so fast! I'm using the Garmin Fenix 5X plus - It's definitely a few years old now - got it back in 2019. That said, when you spend so much on a watch, you'd think it would be the battery that goes first, rather than the software glitching.
33 was one of my best years. I’m not religious but it’s your Jesus year. Sub 3 at 33 let’s go!!! Thanks for the mental prep advice. Also great call on logging long run miles on your race day shoe.
Haha, thanks Jason! Let's hope it's my best year too. I will definitely fight for it, that's for sure!
happy birthday!
Thank you, my friend!
love the episodes! how do you determine what paces to run at tempo / intervals?
Thank you, my friend!! My paces are based off my last race time, which was a 5k I did in October. Generally tempo runs are between your half marathon and 10k pace. Intervals, you're trying to build speed, so the idea is to be consistent with your pace throughout but try push the last two reps.
@cianematics appreciate it thank you :)
Does watching this count as cardio? Asking for a friend 😇
Yes, and every second viewed burns calories tenfold... it's scientifically proven!! Just... don't look it up 😅
Have you felt like you’re comfortable with so little liquid on long runs? Are you planning on skipping aid stations or drinking at every one?
@SantaCruzRunner, I just really dislike carrying stuff while I run haha. I'm still undecided but I'm thinking for race day to really hydrate prior, and then grab some water along the course to keep the electrolytes coming in. I might end up bringing a small bottle with me though.
Way to stay positive and know that it’s all part of the process. These small things are helping you dial in race day. What are you thoughts on mental preparation for events? Any tips?
Thanks Jason! So true. Mental preparation is key! I have so many thoughts on this, I'll try to explain it in next week's video, but ultimately we have to trust the process. Remind ourselves that we've put in the work - now let's go execute! Focus our energy on things we can control, and forget about the things we can't.
