I've seen the film about ten times. It's a nice film. However, in my opinion, we Hungarians were on the wrong side. Many people here in English from Central Europe are writing that together we can be strong against the tyranny of Brussels. The 'Brussels people' dream that one day Europe will be just one country, with one language, without religion. This work has not started now, but hundreds of years ago. The 1848 war of independence was a fake. In the Hungarian opposition circles, the later 'Brusselsites' were already there. Most of them were Freemasons. The aim was not freedom, but the disappearance of a Catholic, deeply religious ruling house, who did not make a pact with the Freemasons like the House of Hohenzollern, the House of Hanover, the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.

I wonder how much of this is scripted. Many of the conversations seem contrived, although I appreciate some of the messages underlying the show.

As an austrian i understand all of what is being said. There was a misunderstanding made by the english speaking folk - it's not dutch it's "deitsch" which means german (kinda). But it's not standard german, it's actually a mix of bavarian and swiss-german.

They are a perfect family to start those teens on this journey. What a lovely couple. It was very touching =) Those are also nice teens. that's a great experience for them. this made me cry a few times with all the loving and touching connection they had =,)

I wish there was a way to experience Amish or Mennonite life for a week or two. I think it would be good for us Englishers.

l have lived my entire life in a southwest Florida area with a heavy Amish population...best grocery store EVER. As a Christian not part of their community, there has never been judgement. They have assisted me immensely with canning advice...more than any fda books. They have advised on growing partners in the garden..and come to me (which is so humbling) for duck and chicken eggs. If tomorrow my husband and I were to go to them and ask to be members..we would be accepted, and he is disabled Army ..a big NO thing. So, I waited to watch all of the episodes to comment...James and Charlotte...we NEED an update. Charlotte was so close, so wanting someone to lead her to Christ...and all the ladies tried.. Many years ago a mom of one of my sons friends (way long ago, they are in their 40s now) told me one day " I just want to find the peace you have"....I never once pushed my faith on her, I never pressured her...I never realized I made even a tiny impact on her.... Our words and sometimes just listening ears, really do make a difference to those that dont even realize they are searching... this was an amazing series...AND an update would be awesome.

Great, interesting show! It's very telling that the Amish men saw James' pain and emptiness. They seem to really care about other people even if they are not Amish. I was also surprised that the Amish father admitted to his family's failings in order to mend and recreate a connection with James. The Amish hosts have represented themselves well. I'm also surprised that most of the British teens adjusted reasonable well to the drastic change in lifestyle. Charlotte looks better as an Amish.

I agree with the girl who questioned the welfare of the chickens. The farmer lady is wrong about chickens. She probably has never thought about it another way, in part because of the humans have dominion over animals thing. Chickens do in fact care about more than food and water. There are too many chickens in that barn and they should have access to the outside for a portion of the day. Also the ammonia from all that waste not only smells bad but can cause irritation to their skin and possibly lungs. Just saying.
