I started model building at the age of 13 but I took a break in my 30's to raise a family and now 40 years later I am back building models again. Originally I built plastic models, tanks, planes, ships but I now specialise in matchstick model building, both from kits and scratcbuilding from plans.

This is the models built and photographed by Jimmy Morris. He doesn't have a UA-cam channel of his own and after chatting with him via gmail it was decided that I would make a video of his work so that it may be seen by more people, and in my opinion it really does deserve to be seen, his model making is excellent.

These matchstick kits are not scale models and they benefit from some additions. The wheels were modified, the kit ones did not look realistic Steering gear was added this was totally omitted from the kit Additions were made to the footplate it was bare in the kit A coal bunke...

This was my first attempt at making a video instead of my normal slide show and I thought I had lost the files. Trawling through my tablet during a clean up of files I discovered some of the lost files. Viewers seemed to like the windmill so I've stitched together the few remaining files to make this very short video.

Excellent work Jimmy, impressive build!
Hi am just wondering if you could get a copy of instructions templates to send to me so I can print them I am trying to find a copy of instructions to download thanks
Sorry can't help you there. The templates are all used to stick the matchsticks to so consequently there are no templates left at the end of the build and I don't keep the instructions when I've finished the kit, not that they would help you a great deal, they are somewhat lacking in quality. Although I have built this kit I must point out this is not my build, this is the work of Jimmy Morris. Best wishes Vic.
Hi Brett….the basic plans are available but all the extra and add on are not. This is down to the individual.
@@user-ib9nd4xj5o where to get basic plans and card stock diagram download to print for match stick car
Very nice. Well done.
Thank you
It does look the part, lovely job
Such a shame!
Jimmy morris is a fantastic man. So very talented and a great soul.
Thank you Cole for your kind words…It takes one to know one 👍
Beautiful work you are so talented stunning
Fantastic love the wagon
Thank you for your kind words. Best wishes Vic.
Hi Vic and a big thank you for your expertise in producing this video of my work. I like to go beyond the basic build and add a lot of fine finishing touches to enhance the overall look of my models.
Very good Jimmy. Where did you get the people for the tram?
I purchased them from Amazon and the scale size is G
I don’t suppose you know where to find some instructions for the windmill online? My kit only came with Chinese instructions for some odd reason.
Sorry I can't help you with that one. I can only say I don't think your kit is the same as the one I built because Hobbies kits always have English instructions. Best wishes Vic.
Hi I am just wondering if you can send me copy of matchstick plans you have pdf thank you so can try to build
Hi I was just wondering if can have a free copy of plans send online I want to build one
I don't have any plans for this model, or the steam roller they were built from kits which had cardboard templates which you stuck the matchsticks to. Best wishes Vic.
Did you have the picks of templates plans to download
So I can print my own templates
@@bretteballantine2596 sorry no I don't. Why not buy the kit it's freely available on the net and it's not that expensive? Best wishes Vic.
Morning Vic. In readiness for the locomotive can I ask what circle cutting tool you used for the wheels and what card do you recommend to Regards Andrew
Hi Andrew the card I use on all my models is a 250g/m2 card in a pale beige colour, the colour makes it less obtrusive with the wood. I purchase mine from a local stationer come art supply warehouse but you should be able to find something to suit on Amazon. The circle cutter I use is an Olfa circle cutter, it's a Japanese brand freely available on Amazon. I tried several before I settled on this one and although not cheap it's much better than the cheaper versions. Hope this info is of help to you and best wishes Vic.
@@vicparratt7523 thank you. The cutter is the exact one I've been looking at good to know. Definitely get some card to Thanks again
Why didn't you do the 10th and Final video for your Titanic build?
Your comment puzzles me as I have never built a model of the Titanic, so where did you see the other 9 videos. Are you sure you have the right UA-cam channel. Best wishes Vic.
Hi Vic I received my matchstick curring tool with spare blades and I ordered a scalpel separately. The matchstick cutter is a real game changer. Why didn't I ask at the beginning. I am currently rebuilding my chairs because they will look so much better. Can't wait to build my locomotive now. Once again thank you so much for your guidance Kind regards Andrew 😊
Hi Andrew pleased you are pleased with the cutter, yes you're right it's a game changer. The thing I like most about it is you can set the stop and cut repeated size accurately. Good luck with the locomotive I shall be interested to see what you do to the wheels. Best wishes Vic.
Morning Vic I received the clamps you recommended they are just right for the job. May I ask how you cut your matches
Hi Andrew glad you found the clamps, you can never have too many clamps. I cut the matches in two ways, firstly I use a scalpel but most of the time I use my Rb Toolz guillotine, it's expensive but I couldn't be without it. There are other less expensive cutters out there but if you want the best its Rb Toolz all the way, I've been using mine for four years and it's never let me down. Best wishes Vic
@@vicparratt7523 thanks again I find craft knifes difficult to use. Top tips I'll order one now
Very impressive build, congratulations! I've just subscribed so look forward to seeing more
Thank you for subscribing and I'm pleased you liked the model. I've four more kits in the stash so there will be more. Best wishes Vic
I've just bought this kit. It's my first matchstick kit, but I'm a seasoned plastic modeller and my woodworking skills are also growing so I'm hoping I'll do okay. I like your scratch built shutters, I'd already decided to do the same as the card shutters are just nasty. Thank you for posting this very informative video, prewarning of issues is always better than ruuning blindly into them. And congratulations on your beautiful work! 😊
Thank you for your kind words and if you need assistance during your build don't hesitate to contact me via UA-cam and I will try and answer any queries. I do read all of my comments. Best wishes Vic
Morning Vic making good progress now. I noticed you used wooden clamps did you make them or buy them? Would like to have some Regards Andrew
Hi Andrew can I ask you to check the time on the video where you spotted these clamps. I have so many different clamps I'd like to be sure which ones we are talking about. If you can do this I will be better placed to answer your question. Glad you're making progress and hopefully enjoying your build and I look forward to seeing some pics in the future. Best wishes Vic.

@@andrewbradley2301 Hi Andrew I purchased these clamps 40 years ago at a model railway exhibition in Midhurst. I have just had a quick look on the net and a very similar type is available via eBay. They are made of plastic. Make sure the elastic bands you buy are good quality. Hope this is of some help stay safe and best wishes Vic.
@@vicparratt7523 amazing thank you so much
Hi Vic I noticed on your electric tram pole on the main support near the top you have used what looks like masking tape it looks really neat. Is it masking tape or some thing else. Thanks again Andrew
Hi Andrew at the top of the post that supports the pickup I wrapped at thin strip of card to make it look like a flange. The pickup on the end of the pole is yet again a thin strip of card stuck to the bamboo pole and coated in super glue to harden it. Hope this is of some help to you and best wishes Vic.
@@vicparratt7523 I'll give it a go thanks again Andrew
I just came across this, lovely job, I'm tackling the 1/8th scale Ledge Waggon. Nice kits these Hobby's ones, I've built a few in the past. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your kind words pleased you liked it. There's more to come I've got four kits in the stash. Best wishes Vic.
Nice job. Well done.
Thank you for your kind comment it is much appreciated. Best wishes Vic
Brings back memories of seeing these as a child
Think this is your best vid yet, keep it up there aren't enough matchstick model vids about.
Thank you for your kind words and I'm pleased you enjoy my channel. There are four more matchstick kits in the stash now so I shall be continuing to build models and post videos for a while yet. Best wishes Vic.
Hi can I ask what size metal did you use for the chairs etc and where did you source them from Cheers Andrew
Hi Andrew I used 1mm brass wire for the chair backs and I sourced it from my local model shop but I would think it's freely available on the internet.Hope this is of some help to you and I hope you are enjoying building this model. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further help and thank you for watching my video. Best wishes Vic.
@@vicparratt7523 thanks once again Regards Andrew
Would I be right in saying you used a thicker wire for the wheel axles n poles
@@andrewbradley2301 Hi Andrew Wheel axles were made from 3mm brass rod Electric pick up pole was made from 3.5mm bamboo skewers Passenger entrance poles were made from 3.5mm bamboo skewers Hope this information is of some help and I hope to see the finished tram sometime. Best wishes Vic.
Thank you for the tutorial. Really appreciated. saved me a few times already
Hi Andrew thank you for your kind comment and I'm very pleased the video helped you. Best wishes Vic.
Outstanding Vic and an absolute credit to your skill. This is one of my next projects and you have given me some very good tips, plus you know me as I like to add a few extras.
Thank you James I had some real fun making all those working seat backs on the upper level. I eagerly await your build when it's completed I just love your extras. Best wishes Vic.
You are helping me alot thank you
How do you do the sale as the instructions are not there ❤
If my memory serves me correctly the dimensions and how to build the sail are in the written instructions there are no templates for the sail. Use the box art as a guide. Best wishes Vic.
How do you curve the matches?😊
I soak them in water in a small jar for 24 hours and then I use the centre from a roll of masking tape to form them around. Best wishes Vic.
I've just got this and and the instructions on the sale aren't great I looked here. It would of been good if you showed the building process not just the finished section. I think I've made a mess of mine lol well not finished yet top half to go x
Sorry about that most of my builds show more detail but I did have the problem of lost and corrupted files. Best wishes Vic
Takes me back a bit to your early modelling days, lovely.x
Hey Vic Great build, I actually had this same kit about 30 years ago, and just found it half built in the loft. You have inspired me to get it finished. Problem is I seem to be missing a few templates so looks like I’ll have to scratch build a fair amount. Anyway, thanks for the upload.
Hi Philip thank you for your kind words and it's nice to know that the video inspired you to finish your model. Shame about the missing templates but scratch building with matchsticks is easier than with plastic. Hope the build goes well. Best wishes Vic.
12- ton Steam Roller?
I am in the process of building the same matchstick model, and I must say the instructions are not very specific. So thank you Vic for your images which will help towards my build. If you are interested I can forward you a number of pictures showing my efforts. Cheers Jimmy
Hi Jimmy I'm pleased that you're finding the video of some help with your build of this model. Yes I'm afraid instructions are a big let down in matchstick model kits, that and templates that are sometimes the wrong size and shape. The one most important thing to remember with these kits is keep the box art it's often your only reference as to where to place parts. Having said all this they are incredible value for money, 3 months or even more of entertainment for about £15 to £20 ain't bad value.I would be very pleased to see your pictures of your progress just email them to me at vrparratt@gmail.com Good luck with the rest of your build. Best wishes Vic.
Nice
Where did you get the bench vice from? Thank you
Hi Trevor can't say for sure it was a Christmas present from the family but knowing them it probably came from Amazon. Best wishes Vic
@@vicparratt7523 thanks Vic, I’ll have a look.
Looks good. Instructions look clearer than the one I'm working on at the moment!
Oh venturing into my territory eh? The Wood Trick kits have much better instructions than the Rokr brand.
Yes, I'd noticed that!! ROKR are very small on the page, Yours looked lovely and clear.@@vicparratt7523

Hi there, thank you for your kind words and I'm pleased that you liked the video and I hope it will be of help to you in building this kit. Can I say please make sure you keep the box art you may need it to identify where some parts are placed. Good luck with your new hobby and best wishes Vic. Well done, not an easy build at all.
Thank you it wasn't the easiest of builds but once I got past the main hull it was reasonably straight forward. Best wishes Vic
