High oil pressure after oil change
After an oil change my 04 avalanche has high oil pressure. It idles a bit over normal then basically maxes out when I press on the gas. None of the things I've read or videos I've seen have a problem similar to this. So I made this video so people in a similar situation can get am easy answer

Have u found the fix im having same issue
What is it suppose to be? In middle I can’t find video that tells me
Normal
Ya dumb af bro. Why would you cry about having good oil pressure. 40 psi is a healthy engine.
Wrong oil maybe oil to thick
i have the same problem
Its a healthy motor
You got an update on this I replaced my engine with a remanufactured engine and it’s doing the same exact thing. Before the engine mine ran right around 40. It’s been a while since this happened to you so I would think you figured it out.
Have you put a manual oil pressure gauge on it?
Change oil pressure sensor
Solution???
Mine is all the way to 80 lol
You ever figure it out. I'm having same problem
Is the weight of oil correct. I'd get a Manual gage and check the real pressure. It plugs into the same port your sender screws into.
For oil viscosity. Thick oil increase pressure try bigger oil filter and 5 -30 weight engine oil and mystery red oil to flush the high mileage engine oil jacket. Valve lifter oil hydraulic easily get clogged up. Please replace the oil sensor. The oil sensor for pressure and another sensor is oil temp sensor that it goes up to 150- 160 degree Fahrenheit nominal max is 185 degree.
I'm having the same problem currently and the only thing I can think of is either the crankcase or it's because the little ports going through the motor are clogged
It can be oil pump or a adjustment , oil pump sensor , , exhaust leak or to much air pressure going in the exhaust intake
Mine does exactly like yours after putting Mobil 1 high mileage oil in it. My truck has 77k and that is high mileage, so says the oil bottle.
Looks like someone installed high pressure oil pump I'm trying to get this amount of pressure at idle those LS engines are notorious for having low oil pressure at idle the gaskets and rubber o-ring seals go on the oil pick-up line in the oil pan
Mine randomly when up just a little bit over the middle which I thought it was weird, so I changed my oil, oil filter as well, car ran better but the gage remained the same a bit over, when I do accelerate fast it will go down just enough to be back in the middle
Gauge* (2004 v6 base model ford mustang)
40 is perfect at idle and climbs with rpms anything below that is low oil pressure, you have a great motor. They prob just gave you a little thicker oil
Jiffy oil change are a ripoff.they don’t change your oil.😂
Yea so my 99 psi is high lol I’m grabbing a new sensor, drive belt and an oil change today 👀👀
D id you figure it out? I have a 04 yukon with 5.3. Normally 40 at idle 60 at higher rpm. I have about 2k on this oil change, the other day I got heavy on the throttle getting into traffic. Oil pressure ran past 80 probably 90 then. Now idle is 60 plus at 500 rpm and cruising at 2000 rpm 80s. The only recent thing done to the car was fuel pump and that should have nothing to do with the oil pressure. Am cruising UA-cam looking if anyone has had the same issue and found a fix. My only concern is blowing off the oil filter or causing a seal leak on the crank because of the pressure. Like I said, I normally drive like an old man, but I got on it going into traffic, about to 4grand, I watched the oil pressure hit about 90 that's where I let off. Now at highway speed 2000 rpm it hangs out around 80. At idle in drive it will eventually go down to about 65. If you found a cure I'd like to know. Just have a little over 100k on the vehicle and want to keep it. Thanks for any insight
Did u ever fix it
After some crazy bursts of tear bustin' laughter in all these comments I've come to the conclusion that my recent oil change, with the same weight oil and same fluctuating high psi is twofold: Weather was colder outside AND as a result the clearance tolerances in the engine had to deal with a little thicker viscosity thus creating higher pressure. I'm not saying it's good or bad because my gague, when warmed up, always stayed at about 30 psi and right now, in December PNW, it's fluctuating back and forth as high as 70ish. I've been hesitant on driving it too, 'cause I don't want to blow my shit out either but I'm gonna run it. It's only a '89 454 on a 1 ton frame and the engine sounds rather good so when the oil thins out a bit I think it will be just fine. Sometimes ya just gotta get after it. I hope my input is encouraging and helps some of you folks out.
Hey buddy, I am having the same problem currently. Did it end up fixing by itself or did you find a solution the the issue?
@@RafaelGarcia-yl7gh yea it smoothed out and psi is back at 30. Other issues though, torque converter/ tranny shuddering.
your engine is not at operating temp from what I see so it will be a lil high because the oil is still warming up which is perfectly normal
That’s healthy oil pressure dude. If your lifters aren’t tapping, you’re fine.
It's the oil pressure unit it's located behind the engine. You have to take two pieces out the old piece and the same two in the new piece
Mine does the same sorta but it’s stays at 80 never had this problem ?? is overfilling the oil tank possibly a reason ??
Is in 0 it normal or not
Tha may is in 9
having the same exact same problem. using 5w-30 and i put the recommended 6qts in. Ever find out what it was ?
Mine is 500 psi Max. Drops to 250 when idle. Engine runs fine. I'm guessing it's definitely the sensor?
I had the same, 3.0psi the all of the sudden to the max.
I normally run Synthetic blend but switch over to full Synthetic and my Nissan Titian reading high oil pressure after the change..I'm going back to Synthetic blend and see what happen
Your guage is out of calibration. it should not move whatsoever when off. Ive had the same issue. Wrong needle calibration but one day it magically fixed itself. same with the rpm needle it would show 0 at idle and 300 when it should be 1000 but then it fixed itself as well. Real odd.
I have a 2004 gmc 1500 just bought the truck and noticed the higher oil pressure
Mine is above 40 but doesn't increase with acceleration. Over 200k so I use thicker oil
Your pressure is fine don’t eff with it
I flushed with Murphy miracle oil mine is 5.3 same as yours it will go down after oil breaks in
Mine goes up after a change every since I did a flush. High pressure is good it’s better than low
I have a similar problem with my '04 trailblazer. The oil pressure reading is at 75% of the gauge when idle and then goes up as I drive. Also, when I shut the engine, the reading doesn't go back to zero, it stays at like 25% reading.
bad steppir motor in the instrument cluster. mine did same thing. changed it out and no more issue.
Unplug your battery completely… turn the key over to drain any remaining juice… Hook your battery back up and check it again. Never trust a GM instrument cluster 😆
Same issue, same make and model as OP here. Been meaning to change the oil pressure sending unit (/pressure sensor) for a while, but haven't had the chance. For a while ours would stall out at a stop light or while backing out of a parking spot (around 3k miles on synth blend oil), reporting "oil pressure low turn off ignition" on the dash. Got an oil change and hasn't happened since, but still want to swap it out. Now we're getting rough acceleration. Guessing it might be the throttle body or fuel regulator for that... So many prob'ms! But do like the vehicle. '05 and up have TBs that need to be serviced by mechanic, so I hear. Good to know about the cluster!
@@pennywisethedancingclown7139 I have the same problem with Suburban 2012 with no check ingine the gauge reaches to full limit and not go back I will try your solution thanks in advance
can you explain steppire I have the same problem in suburban 2012 thanks in advance
Hopefully, the service didn't overfill the oil.
thank you sir!
Isn’t the higher the pressure the better? To a point
Nothing wrong with high pressure as long as its not stupid high notice it doesn’t have a red mark like the engine coolant because it’s not bad if it’s high aslong as your levels are correct
i know this video is old but i have a 2001 4.8 and it does this exact same thing his does in the video. i know people say its the sending unit but i heard most of the time if its the sending unit the gauge dont work at all or it goes straight to 80. i’m like him and mine idles high and goes up with RPM’s. anybody figure out if this is bad and what causes it?
btw i know that the oil in it is the proper weight
@@elireed9522 lmao same bro, I’m hoping it’s not like worn head gaskets but I feel like it’s your cluster because sometimes it read false info but lmk when you got it figured or vise versa
Mine idles at 35ish
Too much oil.
Overfilled oil, causing pressure to rise more than usual. My guess
