Gokyo Trail Day 15 16 - Knocking on Heaven's Door - Last Night in Namche
Sometimes getting off the mountain is actually more challenging than getting onto the mountain. In this episode join us for the long way home - through the beautiful Gokyo trail. We literally walked through clouds on the way home. Getting back down to Namche we were exhausted but so excited to be there. However, a lot had changed since we had been gone. The Delta variant hit hard May 2021 while we were in the passes, we arrived in Namche on the last night they were set to be open. It felt like a literal ghost town. Dinner, drinks and live music were enjoyed - and the last we would experience for some time. A big thanks to the Hungry Yak and our new friend Axl Kumar - you lifted our spirits on our last night in town with some amazing songs. Check him out on IG & UA-cam @axltamang5108

Thanks for your great review, a genuine feel through the lens. We are planning to visit in May, we have 3 weeks. We are thinking 2 night Sequoia, 2 nights Kings Canyon, 4 nights Yosemite. After that, no idea.

One place I really wanted to go on the way up was Death Valley - I hear it’s unreal. We also really loved seeing Joshua Tree right before sequoia. As for an idea after Yosemite, we loved exploring San Francisco/Redwood City and briefly Mt Shasta. I wished we had more time there. Someone was like this isn’t the pit stop Mt Shasta is the destination. Also check out our video on the hot springs.

I have a seating question with the roomette. I’m 6’2” and my cousin is 5’6”. We plan to travel by Amtrak in March 2025. Possibly sharing one roomette. She already said she’ll take the top bunk. But our current curious issue is the actual sitting in the two roomette seats. Do knees scrape each other? Is the legroom tight? Getting a bedroom on our routes is expensive. I know there’s the BidUp program but that’s closer to March. … Well be on super liners. And also staying a few nights at the Grand Canyon South Rim.

Why are you wearing a veil in public? And you don't really need to wear a headscarf to enter a mosque in Turkey. It is just a recommendation, they can't refuse you entry. Well at least that goes for Turkish citizens, not sure about how they treat tourists.

Prices have gone UP...UP...UP. I took the California Zephyr (9/11/2018) from Martinez, CA. all the way to Chicago. I had a roomette to myself. Price was about $450. I just checked same trip...same train...same departure city and date...$1,479.00. That's over THREE TIMES the amount I paid in 2018. Wow...that's incredible!

I know the silver meteor is the one you had time for, but in all of Amtrak fleet, the first I'd recommend the Southwest Chief from Chicago to LA. You'll have a better dining experience and better scenery. The Chief traverse Raton Pass, the Sangre De Cristo mountains, and the legendary desert southwest.

He picked up on the really bad vibes in there. Try going out there alone at night. Or maybe not. I probably wouldn't recommend it. I have reason to believe there have been satanic human sacrifices performed in that cave. He doesn't show too much of the graffiti. The vibes are some of the worse I have felt anywhere on planet Earth. And I've been a lot of places. It dead ends it seems like a mile but probably isn't that far as its slow going as you have to climb over all those rocks and boulders.

3:29 that column is a well known styl ein roman and greek architecture. The 'eyes' are actually representative of the eyes of a tree - original columns were made from tree stumps. So they represent cut branches. Definitely not human eyes. And there definitely weren't Turks in 'Turkey' when the cistern was built - they came from much further east later on. Everything the tour guide was telling you was just silly tourist hokey.

When you 2 rode the silver meteor, the food served as of the time was Amtrak's flexible dining menu and while you found it satisfying, you should take the long distance route out west which serve the traditional dining menu which is much better.
