You can say NO. You don't have to be taken advantage of to gain momentum. I've seen plenty of "good opportunities" end up being nightmares because I didn't stop to make sure it truly aligned with me and how I want to show up in the world. I recognize that I was just so happy to be asked, that I said yes, until I realized that was doing more harm than help. Standing up for myself in this way has changed so much for me. Thanks for having me on the show to share my story 'Tine Zekis, M.Ed. This is was such a fun conversation!!

Girl, YES! Thank you for laying it out like that for all of us. You can say NO! It's so important to understand your own boundaries, priorities, and motivations when deciding what to take on and what to pass along. I hope we've inspired someone to say NO today!

I can talk about this NOW as if it was easy, but I've had to get over the fear of being cancelled, get over people pleasing, and get over the fact that I won't be liked by everyone. And it was hard at the beginning because as I was being polarizing and doing all these things it wasn't as if I immediately found my people. That being said, as I've kept at it, I've now finally found MY PEOPLE and that has made it all worth it!!! It's been the positive reinforcement I've needed to keep doing all the hard things because I've seen that they pay off in long run, not just because I did something hard, but because I did something hard that was aligned with me, my dreams, and how I want to show up in the world. This was such an amazing conversation, 'Tine! Thanks so much for having me on the show!

Fat seems too casual a descriptor to verbally assassinate someone to her face. However, folks DO hesitate to tell someone bluntly and face-to-face that she smokes/drinks too much, is a spousal cheater or a drug addict. Thanks for sharing this significant topic.

We have to be very careful about the information we share regarding weight and health. There are some ideas shared in this video that are simply untrue. I applaud you, Ileka, for doing the work and losing the weight. You look amazing. Losing weight is not easy. I've been a clinician for over a decade. It has become almost impossible to talk to patients about their weight without there being some kind of pushback. Patients don't want to talk about it, by and large. They want pills, surgery, and all the reactive treatments, but they do not want to talk about preventive measures and lifestyle changes that make the pills and surgery unnecessary. It saddens me when I hear people say things like Serena is overweight. She is an elite athlete for goodness sake. But it also saddens me to hear people say things like muscle weighs more than fat. Overall, clinicians need to do a better job of educating patients about health, wellness, and the implications of obesity. Patients, additionally, need to be more receptive to clinicians like myself who are happy to treat your sore throat but would be doing you a disservice by not addressing the elephant in the room (no pun intended).

Very well said! It's not just "black women". Over weight is associated with a myriad of health issues and psychological issues (one's self confidence etc..). A lot of doctors won't say the quiet part out loud. Our society is breaking records with teen diabetes etc. I look at a large group of black women Especially in certain regions and they are 80% obese. This is NOT good!! Look at photos of black and white people in the 1950s-70s then look at photos today.
