Amen! 👍👍 to all you covered. I've been subscribed since you re-educated me on the long rod.
I guess u turned the dist back or to the left clockwise
Like David Vizard said, some will come up with very aggressive ramp lobes, but like you and David are is making a cam for a street engine, I hope Eric is fair to point out which are the more realistic street cams that will not destroy the valve train vs the ones that send their cam profiles just to win the challenge.
I saw the same video and I believe the same thing as you, I think it has something to do with the overlap. We don’t know what that was
More air, more fuel, more power, if some of these cams move more air is the engine going to go lean and detonate? No jet changes right?
Amen brother
Cam shaft might make a difference because the valve events may require different specs for a short rod setup as the piston is excelerating faster after TDC so would the cam event have to be different?
I'm not sure why someone wouldn't subscribe if they like content like this?
If your like me and don’t have FB. Or pay pal. Yes I’m one of them. I was able to email Eric and he sent me way to donate for the challenge. I’m not an engine builder professionally. I do my own for my mopars. I’m a body n paint guy. But I think this is an event everyone should be interested in that watches these car channels.
I couldn`t agree with you more! We are not racing dynos! I built engines for a number of differenrt venues. I have few a champoinships and dozens of checkered flags from a number of differt type racing series. Drag racing is the least of my sucecesses. I generally build for torque over the widest range I can get. It just works thats why, I`ll give up 50hp for 30lbs of torque all day long. These unconcidered conciquences(which I mentioned earlier)can have a role in this outcome. I can`t roll my cams cause I don`t have a cam doctor. I assume you do, if theres a dicrepency in the timing components which( we have no control of) may hinder or help somebodies elses cam specs. This test is outside of the box. If I sent in a cam it would be .050 over the max flow lift. 256/262 at .050 with a 106 LSA with a 102 ILC. What do I know anyway.
I appreciate your teaching.
For one, the piston weight is lighter with the longer rod, but..the rod weighs more, is the total of both the same weight ?
Ben Alameda always says that dino results never translate in the 1/8 & 1/4 mile !!! 🤔
There are many people that will do exactly this, and that is go buy a cam and stick it in their engine, dot to dot and thats tje way it will run. No dyno tuning !!! But simply because they have no access or the time or money to dyno their stuff. I am glad and thankful for these types of videos. The info will be helpful. Thank you guy’s for helping us little guys 👍🏻
I and others donated to Eric to add an extra dyno day. He e-mailed us over the weekend to let us know he received enough for an extra day, so we should see 14-15 cams in the test. I'm willing to donate more if needed. We're going to learn something, and that's exciting.
@@NateDalton I think it's going to be a total of 20 cams
I wish that the RPM range for the test was 3K-7K. I assume it’s because the dyno’s flow control valve to the water brake has trouble over that wide of a range. I’m not saying any of this to be a “complainer,” just to highlight, that if the test captured a slightly wider RPM range you’d see a bigger difference between cams that are very similar…..he could pull higher RPM instead / as well but, that would muddy the data with valve-train stability issues…..also he wouldn’t need to “change the rules” to accomplish this, just start the pulls lower and don’t count the data towards the competition (it could just be a talking / learning point)……many people would likely be interested in seeing this data to help with TQ-Convertor choice if they were building a similar combination……thanks for donating / participating.
@@SalterRacingEngines Great to hear that!
Very good incite on intake velocity, inertia, reversion, and the fact that the valve is in the low and mid range lift most of the cycle !
I personally don’t like LS engines!!!! They maybe great , just don’t like them!!
I’m subscribed and waiting for the new shop!🎉 🎊
Lol big valve ls3 head dont need alot of cam to make power. They are different animals you are right
Thank you for your knowledge and videos USA 🇺🇸 TRUMP
What are you cult follower !
Man it's gonna be a long month waiting for results, hope you do well..
Just my two pennies: a larger hydraulic roller camshaft on a 108 will have a ton of overlap. That's why the 241/243 cam didn't do as well. You're just pushing power right out the exhaust pipe. There have been instances where I have made more power for customers with less camshaft. Good luck to your entry!
Thanks for your comment I totally agree that can happen for sure but I don't think 241 on a 108 is very big for 11.5 compression 408 cubic inch engine. Like I said we run way bigger cams than that and make a whole lot more power with the compression being only a half a point higher. That particular cam made 55 more average horsepower. So I don't think that was the problem.. The peak horsepower is what really threw me off and the fact they both made the exact same basically peak horsepower or at least within two horsepower of each other. That's the part that doesn't make sense to me.
@@SalterRacingEngines Admittedly, I'm an all-Ford guy, so I'm not familiar with the lifters/valvetrain that's being used in Eric's mule. I have zero complete LS engines to my name, so I did a lot of stabbing in the dark based on lobe aggression. I'm wondering if that 241 cam that you're speaking of was maybe too aggressive and the engine was losing control of the lifters on the top end???? Hydraulic rollers can be real finicky.
@@lykinsmotorsports agreed and I'm in the same boat. Like an engine that size and that compression we would make a lot more power but my lift would be in the 750s or 780 and that's the only thing I can see that might be different. That's why I want to do this I I really want to know the results. I think we would really be able to tell if we didn't have a lift rule. I understand why we do I just wish we didn't.
@@SalterRacingEngines I'm looking forward to seeing all the entries. When he gets all the cams in, he's going to email us all a list of the specs from each one. I'm kinda betting that there will be a bunch that are within spitting distance of each other and then there will be a few outliers.
@@lykinsmotorsports yeah I saw on his Facebook page where he's only taking 18 and I think there were two spots left I would imagine they might be filled by the end of the day. I know the one I sent in like I said in my video is not the one I would grind for that engine but for the competition I thought well either you're going to win or bust so the one I sent in is little different. Lol. It's not crazy but might be different than most. And for all I know it might be out in left field all by itself and it will make the least power of any of them. But I had to throw it out there so I could see just where this thing landed. I was going to grind another one but I know now with only two spots left I will never make it in time so it is what it is at this point. And I think you're right the majority will probably be very close in specifications. I wish it would hurry up and get here I'm ready to see what happens.
This is the most exciting thing to happen in our life. I thought I got an education in school but this...this is going to be epic!!!
Holy cow! 93% not subbed!! If my math is right, that puts your sub count out to 100K if they were.
Brian regards from Sydney Australia!👋💪
You weren't the only one that expected much better results from the 241 cam. I know the tight lsa hurt it at the top, but still....
I wonder if the ls Dyno mule has breathing characteristics similar to what hemi heads are like in respect to cross flow @ overlap?
The winning cam probably not be the fastest at the track! Bet winning cam could even be near slowest at the track... I hope I am wrong and you can tell more from the dyno sheet. Do you think you can look at dyno sheet and know which cam is best?
Yes definitely
Dot to dot is so vague, brand of gears, can be so variable, how stretched is the chain, you really need to narrow all the variables down to grind offset in that cam.
Yes and he did say he was replacing with a new chain but you're right. It's a Gamble
BIG Difference between Engine assembler and Engine builder
Good luck. Not sure but I've heard Eric is slippery to deal with.
Less than 400 cubes N/A making over 900hp 😮
People already making excuses and the tests haven't even started !
Exciting stuff. Congratulations for your son. God bless.
What do you mean he didn’t change the rules. I’ve heard him change from 91 to 110 octane after a competitor requested it and he now has three pushrod length options vs one to start with. I’m not in the USA but I know I would definitely send a different profile for those two octanes.
@@James16788 the 110 octane it's not that big a deal and he made that octane change the second day before any cams came in and that was done so that everybody's fuel was consistent. We all are glad he's using 110 it eliminates the possibility of Spark knock or detonation. The pushrods he's doing to help anybody who might be a little big or a little small on the Base circle so that's a plus for everybody it doesn't change the rules.
@@SalterRacingEngines Ok. I may have missed some episodes. Should be interesting and may do his channel some good. Certainly a lot of talk about it in the last few days.
Found your channel because of the challenge, so its already done some good. I have a lot of literature from a guy that I've read for years and liked, but lately he's been doing a lot of talking and not much acting. I want the cam to get to Eric, because I want to see something other than, "I'm right because I said so."
I love this channel, welcome.
Keep up the good work Brian We are all looking forward to the results V8's and camshafts profiles How good 👍
Yeh man, LS are a different animal! I’m seeing some crazy power from sub 240 intake durations and can’t wait to see what wins the challenge.
Will Eric be handing out Participation ribbons for the contestants?
@@bd5058 hahaha
If he will be - i dont think he sends mine all the way to Germany.......
Hell I’m excited to see what happens with all 10 cams too!!
You are spot on
At least you're not a narcissist . . . . 😊
heres a carb put wheels on it and go drive it
I like your channel, I'll subscribe. My flavor of engines are sbc 2bbl circle track stuff with .450" max lift rule, if you're looking for video ideas in the future. Thanks
We have wild donkeys in AZ and they are mean. They kill other wild life like breathing air. And we have coyotes as well. Damn donkey are dangerous and a lot of folks don't realize it.
Amen I was thinking like I was managing the speed shop in the 80s Customer comes in with that engine- sorta amixed bag Try and figure out what he wants to run it in and where He wants a cam that goes rump rump if he wants to run pump gas I can give him the rump rump with a big cam but....he wants to run it in his Camaro on the street and he has not built the trans yet. we are all going to learn something disclaimer i retired before LS got big
We appreciate it. Well I do!
Amen. This is going to be exciting for me also. Been interested in this engine building for over 39 years now. My buddy owns a machine shop that mostly builds late mods and modified. He also watches your channel. Yes I'm guessing some of the cams will rattle the valvetrain.. I'm lost on the lLS also. Making that much power on a short cam. Thanks for the great videos!
Im excited for the testing. I have no experience with the ls platform. I came from a small block ford and chevy background along with 2v mod motors. Data is knowledge and knowledge is money. Thank you for your wisdom and experience you share. Alot of people dont understand the money you are giving away thru knowledge.
