    • @PenDoodling
      @PenDoodling 5 днів тому

      Hi @reneebrose7116 - great question, This is something that I used to struggle with a lot till I become more accepting of what I created - good and bad. That allowed me to experiment and accept that everything was good and not a waste of time. Then, as I progressed, I began to get a feel for how different segments would slot together. I think I will try a video when I do a small piece, photocopy it and then 'do it' starting at different points to see if that helps. In the end of the day, I've usually found that it doesn't really matter - each one gives a different creation. I'll try and do one this week for you. Thanks for the question, Oliver

      Hi @reneebrose7116 Nice hearing from you and thank you for those kind words. I am putting up another video Saturdayw (I think) where I do random lines and then 'zentangle' it! I found it very relaxing and much more forgiving for me - a geriatric. Most people who view the videos are USA based - you have probably worked out I am from and living in Ireland, way down South beside the Atlantic where my wife and I try to get in a swim most days - hail, rain or snow :))

      @@reneebrose7116 If I'm using a small format card 6x4 then I tend to use 1mm and 3mm with maybe a 0.05 for some shading. Anything above that I generally 0.8, 0.3 - but to be perfectly honest, I am on the lazy side and I tend to use the pens that are 'to hand', I don't tend to be too fussy in this regard. Looking at the pot of pens I can see now that there are loads that have been languishing there for quite some time. Maybe it's time to mix things up a little and take 'pot luck' next time when chosing the pen 🙃

    I love abstract work and watching you do this reminded me of the artist Gheorghe Virtosu with a touch of kadinsky wrapped around the colors of Piet (the guy who does those red, yellow, blue boxes.) I call them the bauhaus colors cause of their boldness. nice👍👍👍

      @PenDoodling 13 днів тому

      Hi @bubbacas23, very kind words indeed but mentioning me in the same breath as Gheorghe Virtosu - some might call heresy - he is someone that I admire greatly and his mastery of the art form is truly original. As for me, I just use color at times to lift the spirit and the freeform to release stiffness in the brain. I love primary colors but am still very much experimenting to find my won safe space. Once again - thank you sincerely for watching the video and am glad that it brought you something special Oliver

      Hi Marie, It appears that Mrs Google has hidden my reply, so I will try again. Great to hear from you and delighted that you liked my little piece - must say that I really enjoyed doing it. At the start I felt like throwing it in the bin but it goes to show that it is important to stick with it. What art work are you doing now - especially with the rainy and cold weather - there is no excuse :) I tried another watercolor for this week's video, but the colours just got too dark and foreboding - not good and definitely not zen. So I think I will take a step back and do line 3D Line illusions to clear the brain. Hopefully I will commit that to paper tomorrow. As they say in West Cork 'Beir Bua' Slán Tamall Oliver

    Never ever say you’re useless at anything. Trust me on that. Watercolour pencils work pretty much the same way as the paint version from what little I’ve seen. You say the colour down then use a wet brush to move the pigment around. Like anything else, practice is key. Watch some videos.

(It's pronounced Ni-reek, long I sound then long e). But I'm Jaime, nice to meet you. :) I'm trying to figure out the best supplies still. I use a sketchpad most of the time, but it isn't the best for markers, either. They get streaky, too. I'm going to try some bristol paper I have on hand from doing art with my now-teenager, to see how they look on there. I have the same problem as you, I don't want to leave empty space. It's a little amusing to do it for calming purposes, and then get stressed because I need to "do better". But, for the record, I think it loos really nice as it is. The little semi-circles are one of my favorite ways to fill in space. Something I love to do with them is to do them in one direction and them do them over top in the opposite direction. It gives a lovely 3d sort of look to it the way they cross (in a kind of curved x pattern?)

    I followed along, and occasionally went a little off kilter, but it turned out well in the end. Thank you for another lovely video, Oliver. :)

    I’m glad I found your channel. I love enjoyed your advice, your accent and your flower came out beautiful. I’ll have to try it in my doodle journal. I don’t have a compass, but like you mentioned, I can make my own circles and wing it. I being in the moment while drawing. Thank you for sharing.

      Hi, Thanks for those nice words. I'm just 'winging it' myself - welcome to the club). Been experimenting with another floral design, this time 12 petals, looks more like a mandala. But when I 'coloured it' - I destroyed it :(( Have to give it another 'go' tomorrow. If it works out I'll post. Cheers.

      Hi @bubbacas23, Great you found it useful - I'm experimenting with another Compass one (as I also find flowers difficult) and IF it works out, I'll publish it Monday or Tuesday. Appreciate the comment Cheers - and happy doodling

    This is lovely, Oliver. I'm about to sit and try it myself. A month or so ago, a friend recommended that I try doodling to help calm my mind when I get anxious, and things like this seem to help the most. This video just happened to pop up in my feed, but I am going to go see what else you've shared, too. :)

      hi, thanks for popping in. like you, I find doodling very relaxing and immersive also. the world vanishes for an hour or so. yesterday I experimented with colour and, while not a disaster, it proved a bit frustrating and definitely less than calming ☹️ Nonetheless, I will upload it - warts and all
