I thought I had seen most of the good Zappa footage. Roxy was always my favorite Zappa LP. The clip lately with the wonderful performance with Pamela the dancer was sheer satisfaction. Now this--- starting with Montana, arriving at a disassembled trombone, lots of precision chaos, then a mind bending free jam in 5/8 that is uncountable, and ending with Frank demonstrating how long it takes to get your guitar in perfect tune by playing with Duke on piano while checking all the harmonics on the guitar. What could be better?

Love Duke's clavinet and innovative synthesizer playing; but when he is on that Rhodes, his sense of harmony is truly is something special. Even the comping during the unplanned guitar tuning at 29:28 is great.

What kinda irks me is that this footage was a teaser for what would eventually be released as the ROXY: The Movie DVD. That DVD did finally come out, but both of these stellar performances aren't in the movie. Kinda like the thumbnail for the YT video but that teaser isn't part of the video.

Remembering Keith Emerson born on November 2, 1944. He was an English keyboardist, songwriter, and composer. He was a founding member of Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP), one of the early progressive rock super-groups. Keith Emerson played keyboards in a number of bands before finding his first commercial success with the Nice in the late 1960's. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Emerson

i preferred nice to elp but it was really down to keith em. i was told that jazz was about improvisation but a lot of it is predictable. this man could have taught the jazz musicians a few tricks. good for lee but keith was the man. i have never heard/saw more exciting performances than Nice.

I saw this band live on tour. Just mind blowing- sitting and listening in the middle of this sonic soup live was incredible. You never knew what was going to happen next, and Frank’s guitar playing was just brilliant. And, the audience listened in silence and with intention, so as to really hear what was going on.

Walk into the Rock hall of fame in Cleveland, on your left is a mural of Zappa testifying before Congress regarding their attempt to censor his music. Frank's reply if my memory serves: "rock music wasn't written for or performed for conservative tastes". The night Reggie Jackson hit 3 world series homers Frank was in my hometown Poughkeepsie NY. I had a ticket to the game, but went to see Zappa instead! "Frankly" wish I could have done both! He's as unique an artist & performer that ever lived. There will never be another like him.
