Complete Overhaul Procedure For Your Seiko
Awesome. Can u share the method to install this gaskets sir?
Hi, I know it's an older video, however I was wondering if the lathe is the only way to find centre on te mainplate or if there are other ways aswell? I can use a centre punch but that will give me a new centre and not the old one so how would one without a lathe be able to do something within acceptable margins?
I am an amateur watch tinkerer, and seeing you handle parts on your table is breathtaking. The grace and ease with which you manipulate them is amazing.
3 bar is 20m of deept. Because 1bar is for density of water and 2 is for each 10 m of depth. Learn more
Sir I have master watch repairer in Costa Mesa, Ca. He has serviced and repaired two 6139 gold and blue. After a year of service one watch inner rotating bezel is not rotating. What I need to tell you is I can buy new parts all day long, but the main mechanism is purchased from eBay. My jeweler did his job. Can you tell me what the internal part is on the mechanism that rotates the inner bezel? Thank you. My y jeweler
Great video. I have worked on several and picked up some great tips and techniques. Would appreciate more info on lubricants you use and in which place. Info on grease for metal to metal contact interesting. I have used S6 9504 and, at times, 1300 for calendar pivots. What is your preference?
Very cool! I recently had my SBBN007 Tuna serviced and new gaskets installed, including the crown O-ring. I’d love to test it and see how waterproof it is.
What size screw?
Thank you for the great video, and lot of info/help. I faced with the same issue with hour recording wheel stop lever, so it could not stop the wheel, but the tension of the spring seemed good, so the lever was pushed to the wheel teeth correctly. So I checked the surface of the stop lever, I didn't know how should it look, but it was like it was fully polished, which not the best if we are talking about some expected friction to stop the wheel. My idea was to handle this surface carefully with sandpaper, to make the surface a bit more rough, and it worked perfectly, the wheel runs and stops now as expected.
How much should one expect to pay for a proper rebuild this?
Adrian doesn’t seem to make these anymore. No!!!!
Nice Workshop! Are you still doing watch repair?👍🏻🇦🇺
What oil do you use to lubricate the chronograph runner?
I think you bumped the click with the pusher spring which is why it unwound like that.
My dad has one of these and I’m looking to get it serviced / refurbished. Are you still offering services on these watches? I’m based in the U.K. thanks!
@4:20 what part are you winding to see if the watch will run?
Can you share where we can buy this push piece
wish to hear about oil grade you use for each specific item…
This is a great video! Thank you for your clear explanation. A follow up question that comes to mind from your video is if in this case it makes more sense to have the chronograph running (acting as a seconds hand) since this appears to be putting less wear and stress on the components.
That's a great question. It certainly makes sense considering the opposite is true for horizontal clutch mechanisms where additional wear is caused when it IS running. I've also read some anecdotes on a watch forum about a chrono with the Seiko 8R48 movement getting stuck after not being used for a long time so this would also be a great explanation for what caused that issue.
Fantastic 👍
Love how techniquely precic you have to be with Seiko ( see it).
Sorry I know it's an old video but I am taking a shot in the dark....does the Epilan...Epilam...( spelling sorry) have any effect on Shellac
Thought you'd show us the end result!
Love to get a Elma for cleaning.
Thanks for a very useful video, i did not see the spring around the stem, i would like to see this being installed and the small brass pinion should this slide on the stem? mine is fixed or stuck and has no spring, i do have a replacement though
do you have to take the bracelet off the watch to remove and add? How long do you realistically have to wait after adding loctitie to wear the watch?
So did your screw the stem back in to the crown?
Yes
@@theseikologist so you didn’t put anything on it before screwing itnim?
@@johntompkins79 I use loctite on the stem
@@theseikologist is that required or will it go in without it?
@@johntompkins79 it will thread on no problem without. The loctite just secures it in place to make sure that it can’t come unscrewed accidentally.
This is a very interesting video and I agree about the watch dial colour I think this is better than the gold colour of the 'classic' Pogue. For what it's worth Rolex will not guarantee one of their watches waterproof if it's over 10 years old.
That’s not true about Rolex. Rolex gurantee water resistance of all their watches after servicing, no matter the age.
@theseikologist that's interesting many years ago (1990s) I owned a Rolex submariner that had turned 10 years old. I took it to Rolex in London for a service and that's when they told me this. They serviced it replaced the gaskets pressure tested it which it passed. Perhaps my info is out of date?
Great review!
I've seen several videos featuring servicing this movement. You're customer is very fortunate as in this example the movement is very clean. Most of the ones I've seen the movements are a little tarnished due to their age.
I’m happy that other guy took his watch elsewhere, one less in front of my project. Just sent in my father’s 1639-6095 a few days ago. It is a 1971 model we gave him for his fire department retirement gift. He’s passed but always on my mind. I’ll proudly wear the watch in his memory. Cheers my friend.
Hi Ashton, what grit is diamond stone you are using for sharpening screwdrivers? Thanks
I need my 6139 serviced. Can you do it or recommend someone you trust?
Can you restore my SARB017 Seiko Alpinist?
Next topic: how to read time on a two handed watch with Arabic numerals and no date. Advanced lesson: what it means when someone says, “you’re late” and how to respond. 🤔🤫🤭
Super nice workshop! Very funny to see the Glashütter Uhrenöl liqueur on the watchmaker bench.
As a educational and informative video, maybe a little more concentration on keeping the actual work you are doing in frame would be helpful. But a nice explanation of the process nevertheless.
The Seikologist is not the most compassionate nor professional. After insulting me Austin told me to take my business elsewhere. Me a Veteran who was simply trying to have my uncle who purchased his Seiko 6105-8119 in Vietnam. The watch leaks at the crown but Aston was insensitive and insulting.
As I said in my email, I apologize if I offended you. My advice was - “I would suggest you take the watch to your nearest watchmaker to have the movement and dial dried out to prevent further damage.” I gave you this advice as I can’t get to your watch before your allotted time, that wouldn’t be fair to all my other customers. I told you this so that your watch didn’t get further ruined. You seemed offended by this and told me you know how to dry a watch out yourself. I wasn’t suggesting you couldn’t, merely offering helpful advice to stop your watch being ruined.
I contacted these people and they are so busy that the shop is closed until March and and and they have a 16 week ( three months) turnaround until I’d get my watch back! Austin talks convincingly in the videos but do you really want your watch gone 16 weeks? In frustration he told me to take my business elsewhere. I just thought you all should know.
My name is Ashton, not Austin. After you told me: “You think you’re special, there is no reason you need three months to repair a simple crown gasket. Not only am I not interested in you servicing my 6105 I am going to warn my friends to not even bother contacting The seikologist.” - I suggested we might not be the best fit for each other. I apologize about my turnaround time (which is actually closer to 4 months). I’m a one man business and I can only do so much, hence the turnaround time. My services are in high demand as there are very few watchmakers who specialize in vintage Seiko. I can’t change that, unfortunately.
Would it be worth just replacing the bushing with a jewel and drilling out and replacing the main plate hole? Somewhat new to watch restoration and I'm confident replacing a bushing but not so much drilling out the main plate.
I’m not too sure what you mean about replacing the mainplate hole? Can you clarify.
@@theseikologist I worded that weird so I can see where the confusion happened. To clarify: I do not own the equipment to ream out the Barrel Arbor hole on the main plate of the 6139 to replace it with a jewel. I do however have the equipment to push out the bushing on the Barrel Bridge and replace that. Would it be worth it to only upgrade the Barrel Bridge Bushing and not upgrade the main plate?
Great video! Looking at getting a pre-owned Seiko Sarb017. Saw a couple that has been listed as 'Overhauled' in recent years. Would you advise that these are good to buy or should we steer clear of these unless we know where and how they were overhauled? Thanks!
No real need to steer clear, but now that you may need to overhaul it again, depending on how well the job was done.
A very useful video. Many thaks for dooing this :-)
Glad it was helpful!
Surprising how many Canadians I know have come to Australia, and how many Australians have gone to Canada! What's the deal?
In my case it was marriage!
Neat, tidy and uncluttered. The sign of a true professional.
Thanks!
A very useful and informative video. Many thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Perfect I have the same watch 714459. I need the complete gasket set for the glass and Lünette to can you help me?
Unfortunately I don’t seek gasket kits independent of services. You can find them on eBay, however.
Hi Mark, received a 6119c which seems to tick ok, I’m able to change the day & date via clicking the crown in but I have a problem. The day won’t change naturally over time, and winding the time via the crown creates a clicking noise when arriving at the day change time. I am however able to get the day to change if I wind the time backwards. Hahaha any clue as to what might cause this. I know it’s hard to diagnose but I hope my description of the symptoms help. All the best!
Not sure if this was for Mark Lovic? This is Ashton. Anyway, it’s very tough to say. I’d need to see it. Sorry!
Is Loctite essential or can I do without ?
it is not essential
You don’t need it, but the chances of the screws coming loose is exponentially increased.
Not necessary. Admittedly the risk of screws falling out does increase from one in ten million to one in 7.5 million. Godspeed.
@@jaredcoffin3907 lmfao
@@jaredcoffin3907 well, when the manufacturer suggest loctite on certain components, I find it’s best to follow that advice.
I’m a furniture maker by trade, a bespoke furniture maker. Watching this made me realise how people feel when they watch me work, I was lost, how he gets this back together again is beyond me.
Top Gun sir, a lot of these service centres & solo people are not watch makers ( technicians) more like a pleasure watching you do your craft.
Very cool to see the workshop, always look forward to your new videos. Happy holidays.
