Worldbuilding for Concept Art - Part 11 - (Bonus Video) Presentation Turntable
In this video series, I'll go over the entire process for creating a concept painting, from gathering photo reference and using it to design original fantasy architecture, to sculpting and modeling the world using 3D Coat and Blender. Finally we'll create a render and finish the painting off in Photoshop.
I've also included sections going over the basics of Blender and 3D Coat for beginners. This isn't meant to be comprehensive, only to get you started creating with these programs.
Hope you enjoy!

    I have two questions: On 3D Coat do you sculpt using the mouse or using the digital pen? Because in blender I am more used to use always the mouse only. The second question is why don't you sculpt directly on blender?

    • @PaceWilder
      @PaceWilder 8 місяців тому

      Hi, I think I usually use the mouse only when sculpting in 3D Coat, but its totally just a preference. Blender sculpting has gotten much better at a very fast rate recently, so maybe I should learn it a bit more. However I still think 3D Coat does what it does a little bit better. The Voxel system in particular is the fastest ideation sculpting I've ever used for sure. That being said, I'll definitely try to learn more Blender sculpting at some point.

    I've been experimenting with a few 3D softwares for modeling and sculpting : Blender, Zbrush, Adobe Modeler. Seeing this series and looking at the 3DCoat workflow gets me really excited to try that one. I feel like this series is so valuable for beginner/intermediate digital artists! Your way of explaining things seems very natural and I find that your videos are equally educational and entertaining. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your content :)

      That’s great to hear! I’m not an expert in any of the above, but from what I can tell they all have their strengths. Zbrush is great for highly detailed models like characters, Blender for non-destructive workflow and better integration with box modeling. 3D Coat is fantastic for quick, rough sculpts like concept art. Glad to hear you’ve enjoyed these!

    Could you clarify the tool used and setup for the Curves stroke-based slicing you did around 9:40 in the video? You started to say "Vox Hide", but then corrected to "Vox Tool"... but which one? Was that a Split?

    • @PaceWilder
      @PaceWilder Рік тому

      Hi! That was the Vox Hide tool, along with the curves option when you hit "E" to determine the way to place strokes. The vox hide tool works very similar to the Split tool, but I like it because it gives a nice chunky and consistent bevel to the cut. I think I go over it in an earlier set up video, but I have "Control 1" hotkey set to "Show Hidden Geometry" and "Control 2" set to "Delete Hidden Geometry". So after making the shape with the curve, I hit "enter" to hide the selected part using Vox HIde. Then I press "Control 1" to show the hidden to create a cut line (and lastly, control 2 to delete hidden so it doesn't get stored and cause issues later). Hope this is helpful!

      Hi! Its the Vox Hide tool using the straight cuts option with the "E" menu. Vox hide works by first hiding the selected geometry. Then you can show hidden by going to "Geometry > Objectify Hidden (my hotkey is Ctrl+1). The new geometry should have a nice cutline. If you're confused by the Vox hide tool, check out Part 2 - Intro to 3D Coat for more info on how to use it!
