Running a few laps with the new SimuCube Active Pedal mounted to the rig. The new pedal is shockingly good, and the ABS effect is just insane. Running the default SimuCube GT3 brake pedal profile with 45mm of travel here and only 27kg of pressure. Could not be happier with the investment.

Cayman S Exhaust Comparison | OEM vs Cayman R Carnewal GT
Переглядів 2132 роки тому
Quick cold start comparison with a few low rpm revs at the end. Doesn't sound much different at all, maybe a little lower and little raspier at idle, but sounds great when opened up. Bought this pre-owned, so could have been modified before Gert's newer and louder modification technique. Still pleased as I just wanted a subtle upgrade.

Just bought this 2010 Cayman S and not sure if this is the OEM non PSE exhaust, or if this is a Carnewal or similar. I think it sounds better than OEM, but honestly don't know atm. Oh, and the car was fully up to operating temp at the time. It was not a cold rev. Will try to get a better recording of it though.

RaceRoom Crashing during Direct Drive Wheel Configuration
Now that you've had this for a couple years, do you feel like you've "gotten used to it" and don't really recognize the effects of it anymore? Or does it still add a lot to your driving experience? This looks awesome but sometimes certain immersion-adding things become familiar and I'm wondering if it's become stale for you or it's still nearly as exciting as the first month of having it. Thanks for the info, it'd be appreciated to hear your thoughts!
I'm still a big fan of motion, especially in VR. In fact I sold this last year and upgraded to the eRacing Labs RS Mega+ actuator setup and absolutely love it. I've driven a few times with the rig off and it always feels dead in comparison. So no, it doesn't become background or stale feeling. At least not for me. If you can swing an actuator setup, I'll say the extra cost is worth every single penny. I was extremely concerned I was waiting money, but it's a completely different level of immersion. Plus SimHub added motion software that's just amazing, and makes these systems feel 100x better than anything you can do with SRS. But yeah, if you enjoy the immersion factor, then motion is a great addition.
Hi there...went to play Dirt Rally 2 on my H3 today and it does not move my rig....playing MSFS2020 and Assetto Corsa just fine, just DR2 does not move the H3....and clues would be much appreciated
I no longer have the H3, so can't really help. But it sounds like you need to go into the SRS app, find Dirt Rally 2, and follow the instructions to activate the game telemetry.
lol that's too funny :D Test Dummy Mode enabled ?? :D
Is it vr?
Is that elastic holding on the seatbelt as a DIY tensioner? Did it work well?
Comment, like and subscribe it helps the algo.
It you'd turned the other way the wall would've killed you.
I hope you found inner peace, my man (and learned how to drive).
Finally, an updated sound clip! Thanks for posting this, it sounds amazing...My FVD Stage 2 is supposed to ship from Germany on Thursday and I've been waiting since October but it sounds like it will be worth the wait. To me this is one of the best sounding exhausts you can get for the 987.2. Is your car tuned or stock? Thanks again.
Oh nice, that stage 2 should be a sweet upgrade! It looks to be a major increase for an NA motor. Let me know how it works out for you please as I'm very curious. Glad the video was helpful though. Most of these cold start, random revving and fly bys are useless imo. This thing is loud at all times but sounds pretty awesome. :). And I'm 100% stock. Should only get better with their tuning.
@@topshelf147 Had the FVD sound edition installed last weekend and it is amazing. There is a noticeable change in the exhaust note right around 3500 rpm or so...and it is glorious! Perfect sound for a flat six IMO. Plenty of volume on throttle but nice and tame on the HWY cruise. Awesome exhaust.
@Matt77346 So glad you're happy with it. Totally sounds amazing as the revs climb, it's pretty dam addictive! lol. How's the power with the Stage 2 installed? Just this exhaust alone has made the car feel faster and more aggressive, so that must be impressive.
@@topshelf147 Its been raining a lot since I tuned the car and have only driven it twice. The tune has made the throttle response smoother, more aggressive, and the car feels more urgent overall. I also have sport chrono and now the base setting feels more like sport, and the sport mode is more like sport plus. I like it a lot, as I always felt the base map was a bit sluggish on initial throttle inputs, such as when gently pulling away in traffic. It feels much smoother now and more natural. My car is a manual BTW. I'll keep you posted!
what are you doing to overlay the dot? Do you see that in sim as well or just on the mirror?
That's just part of the Varjo Base software. You can turn it on/off as desired. Only shows in the Varjo mirror. Was planning on using it as a tool to improve my driving, but got lazy. lol
@@topshelf147 OK so I got the blueish dot in Base software, but cannot capture it in OBS and trying the OpenXR mirror capture - are you using native Base capture?
Yes, you can only capture it through Base recording option. I just simultaneously ran an audio recorder and synced it up in OBS. Kind of a pita, but only option.
do you use SFU? can you share your settings for SimRacingStudio?, you have a great tunning, regards!
Sorry, I've sold the H3 and moved onto an actuator based setup.
@@topshelf147 what’s the best benefit you get witch actuators? Faster response?
There's quite a few benefits tbh. It's definitely faster, more accurate, more detailed, no real weight concerns and just overall more realistic. I'm blown away by how much better it feels in VR honestly. Was concerned it wasn't going to be worth the upgrade, but didn't realize just how different these systems were. The H3 is great fun, but actuators are a completely different level of immersion. In my opinion of course. The only negatives are that you need to deal with a LOT more wiring and hardware. And the EMI. Still haven't completely sorted that out, but it's no longer a major issue. But both negatives are worth the upgrade if you're debating it.
Something's wrong with the engine?
No, she runs perfect. Why would you think that?
@@topshelf147Sounded rough but maybe that's on purpose
How does this compared to the 3dof?
I very much enjoyed the H3 for the years that I used it, and was kinda nervous if this upgrade was worth it. Also worried about the loss of traction loss, but it turns out my concerns were a bit foolish. While the H3 was fun, this is exponentially better from an immersion pov. Instead of getting tossed around, you actually get true road information at each corner. Heave is a welcome addition and the feeling of weight transfer both under braking and cornering feels great. Curbs are awesome there's also pretty good feedback for wheel slip. Overall it's a huge upgrade and completely worth it imo.
Hi, I have the same headset as you but I have a much nicer image. have you tried disabling all Antialiasing? Without fxaa, smaa etc. I find game way clearer. Or mb you have a bad resolution (then it might just be the encoding of the video) Holy rig! congratulations !
Thanks for the comment. That video image is not representative of the Aero image at all. I never installed the OpenXR plug-in because I stopped posting videos, so I just grabbed the monitor mirrored image. Which apparently looks like crap. lol. Image inside the Aero is crystal clear, now I'm just working on a few tweaks to keep it stable with the motion.
A lot of money 😱 Progress never stops 👍 Still haven't programmed my linear actuators.. 😞
I think progress needs to stop very soon over here. Haha just going to add the belt tensioner and call it. What's the hold up on your actuators, just time?
@@topshelf147 I have a lot of time... I just switched to other hobbies - cnc and laser temporarily

I am using Simtrec pedals as well will the Simucube active pedal moubt to the simtrec pedal plate?
You need to modify the Simtrecs pedal plate with some additional 4040 to make it work. Attach one length directly to the rear of the pedal plate. The second length of 4040 attaches behind the front cross bar, but you need it spaced 10mm (I believe) behind it. Easy to do with a couple corner brackets and two plastic spacers.
@@topshelf147 This biggest issue I notice was the actual foot plate bumping into the front of the pedal. Did not seem to be enough room, thinking of just ditching it, abd drilling holes into the Sim-Lab GT Evo 1 plate under the simtrecs probably easier. Thanks for info. And if I feel like foot to low will just buy the simucube baseplate and slap that on top of GT evo

That's why you need to add the two lengths of profile. Once completed it's a perfect fit with zero issues, and you still have the adjustable heel plate. But going that route works as well. Just personal preference really. Either way, you're going to love the AP! Enjoy. :)

What did u use for your seatbelt holders on your rig ? Biunjy straps
I originally used bungee cords but didn't love the feel of it. Now I just use paracord, much stronger and better feel imo.

Sorry, it's just rope. Search Amazon for black paracord. Can get 100 feet for like $7. Thin and strong.
what do you think is more of a game changer, this? buttkicker? sim motion? VR? I'd like to invest on this but I've a limited budget, as everyone haha
Game changer? The SimuCube Active Pedal 1,000%. But that's different than what I think you're looking for. Sounds like you want immersion. If correct, I would start with a buttkicker or diy version. Cheap and easy option that really adds some life to the rig. After that, VR is an easy win for me. I can't physically drive on a monitor anymore. lol. VR actually puts you IN the car. Lastly would be motion. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but you can get the other two going for a fraction of the cost. You could probably grab a used G2 and a Dayton BST-1/amp combo for under $350 all in and be super happy!!
@@topshelf147 Yes, it's a bit of both, immersion and constancy/pace. This gets a bit tricky because us the Simracing community are from different countries, maybe different continents. I've only had a G29 and a PS4 with AC but I didn't need more to upgrade, I'm already a fan of this world and I'm finally getting some savings to spend in something more serious. Interestingly here the best DD option is the Logitech G Pro Wheel bundle. The Moza for example comes nearly at the same price with wheel and pedals, so I prefer the maybe more reliable company. I'm also getting a Simracing rig, which I never had one, and maybe a Reverb G2 as you suggested (but gotta upgrade the PC too, which is expensive). That's why I asked you the best bang for the back. I knew DD and loading cell is a must, also probably the rig. Since there I've heard different opinions Oc I heard about these pedals now and although it exceeds my budget a little bit, I'd like to have the best purchase (even if I lack some accessories now) in order to get more or less definitive pieces and not needing to upgrade at least for some years. I know this is a pool for money but I've heard people usually regret not going for the higher option so... Hope I didn't bore you. Appreciate your help dude, thanks. Cheers from Spain. Enjoy your amazing set up!
No worries at all. Lots of info there, and there's no one correct path. What I would say though, is that from your response, I'd put the pedals almost last on my list. They're simply amazing, but you could outfit an entire setup for the price of a single pedal. That's insanity imo if you don't already have a good solid setup. You need a decent rig to make load cell pedals or a DD feel proper, so I'd start there. A decent rig or even a well built wooden rig, that's where I started. You could grab those Najam-Simtec pedals which get really good reviews and are super cheap for load cells. Any DD over 8nm imo is fine and will make you happy. Higher is better if you can swing it. I'd say those three things are the best start and money well spent. G2 or some cheap used monitors for a triple setup would be great. Then add a butt kicker. All of this would probably be really close to the AP and I think you'd get much more out of it. Plus now that this thing is out and successful, other companies are going to try to replicate it with their own cheaper version. So while I'm all for "buy once, cry once", I just can't recommend investing sooo much into one single item so early on. That said, I'm just one internet moron, so certainly go with what you want. And if you do get an AP, let me know what you think. :)
@@jairon_2518 I would go with the Moza r9
These pedals are game changers, for sure. From the reviews I've seen, just about anything is possible with this pedal. It would be so nice to go from GT3ish brake feeling to a LMPish feeling, with click of the mouse. It's honestly something that a lot of sim racers have probably thought about, but never believed someone would engineer.
Agreed completely. I've put together a pretty decent rig over the years, and this pedal is hands down my favorite part as it's removed the one thing I've been trying to sort out since I started sim racing. A natural brake pedal feel that connects with my brain. Even with my Simtrecs I always felt disconnected until now. These are stupid expensive, but worth every penny for me. :)
Ya do you feel like you have more confidence now with that connection? Mine are on order and what your describing is what Im looking for@@topshelf147
Nice, I have Simtrec's as well and just received my active pedal the other day, hope to get it mounted to my rig this weekend.
Awesome! Let me know what you think of it after getting set up. I've wasted a lot of money in this hobby over the years, but these are 100% worth it.
I’ll be buying just the one pedal too
You'll love it! It's completely changing my braking style
@@topshelf147 is there anyone that just sells throttle or clutch pedal? I think it’s too expensive for buying all 3 and probably not worth it.
Only Heusinkveld sells a separate clutch pedal as far as I know. I'm looking at a few used 3 pedal set options now myself. A set of Simtrecs is way overkill without the brake imo. Simucube is working on something though for a passive throttle and clutch pedal. At least that's what the cryptic comments elude to.
I'm thinking about buying a single pedal aswell to start, and I would pair it with my Meca Sim Evo1 throttle and clutch. Would you recommend the single pedal setup to begin with? How are you finding it? Does it feel weird having feedback only on one pedal? Mind I have Buttkicker Pro (unfortunately not a motion rig for now), which means I do feel some kind of vibration in the pedals, so I wouldn' have the brake pedal with feedback and the throttle pedal completely passive. Please let me know, great video!
Just realized I replied to you in the Discord. Buy it!!! 😁
@@topshelf147 Which one are you:)? I will buy it, as soon as it becomes available again!
@@topshelf147 Btw, would love to see more footage if you have it, maybe driving a GT3 or the Lmdh😄
Same name. lol. Tolshelf147. I played with it as a throttle last night in iRacing, can't say I'd invest there unless I just had cash to burn, but the brake is worth every penny. And I'll try to grab some this weekend. Need to get the camera mounted to the rig so it keeps the pedal stationary so you can see the effect better.
Hey man , i think you matched the active pedal with simtrecs . I also bought the 1 active pedal and considering to match with simtrecs or HE ultimate+ but can’t decide . Are you happy with simtrecs ?
Yeah, these are Simtrecs and they're fantastic pedals! Really lovely set. I never used HE's, so can't compare directly though. That said, I'm actually going to sell the Simtrecs now and either grab something cheaper like Sprints or just go nuts and order a second Active Pedal for throttle.
I have Simtrecs right now (just received my 1 active pedal the other day) and I have had HE Pro's and Ultimates in the past and I prefer the Simtrec's over the HE pedals, the HE's are great pedals but I prefer the Simtrec's, they are super smooth and imo are a beautiful set of pedals.
so what are the fps gains?
In comparison to the 8kx? I'm running in OpenXR mode now and using recommended settings plus OpenXRToolkit, and fps is about the same tbh. I can basically hold a steady 90fps with an overclocked 10700k/3090 combo. Still adjusting to the smaller fov, but the clarity is amazing.
But were you able to crank up graphics settings thanks to gained performance from DFR?Or it only helps render the native higher resolution?
No. In iRacing at least, using Culling via OXRToolkit gives the best performance.
@@topshelf147 what is Culling?
Check out this guy's iRacing/Aero setup website. It's explains culling and everything else they've figured out to be the best settings for the headset. kentbigdog.com/varjo-aero-iracing/
I do flight sim more but I love sim stuff. Yaw2 inbound! Good video.
Is this the technology of rendering what you're looking at natively while lowering the resolution for peripheral vision? Probably only in HMD and won't be seen in this screen recording?
Yes, you're correct about both. Plus iRacing doesn't currently support dynamic foveated rendering, but I'm using the eye tracking gaze (blue dot) feature to learn about where I'm actually looking. I'm curious if I can improve my racing and my pace by "looking up" more.
what is the cpu /gpu set up in this vid? @@topshelf147
10700k@5.2/3090. Time for an upgrade for sure.
How did you overlay the eye gaze please?
It's an option in the Varjo Base software.
I have a double screen set up with Trackir now.. Thinking of either making a switch to VR or getting a third monitor to play with Trackir.. which would you recommend?
If sticking with monitors, definitely go with a third, no questions. VR is amazing imo, but you need to really want it and be ready to deal with the trade-offs/hassles.
What software is this?
Sir can you send some details?
The 17 mm o-ring you mentioned, is it 17mm inside diameter? What material is it? I saw some at Home Depot.
No, it's 12mm ID uxcell Fluorine Rubber O-Rings 17mm OD 12mm ID 2.5mm Width, Metric FKM Sealing Gasket, Pack of 20 a.co/d/0AHga6T
What is the MPN of your extrusion? 2020 or 4040
I actually have 15 series profile, but it's the same as 4040. You don't want to go any smaller than that. I just bought some bulk on eBay and cut as needed. If I was ordering today, I'd just go to tnutz.
Did you get your extrusions custom cut? and where can I order or buy them?
I think I’m going carnewall
So far I've been very pleased with it. Will try to get a proper audio recording of it soon. Also, I believe this modification was done before Gert's adjustments, so the new mod is actually louder.
@@topshelf147 awesome! I have been on the fence for some time. Being that I have a 2.7 not sure how much different it would sound

Excellent!... I'm now going to have to un-learn some of the techniques I was using on this track, but only ever managing about 53 or 54sec laps.

I just got my P3 and love it but I've used the provided dampeners (the same black ones, it looks like) - love the o-ring idea, rather! That being said, are they 17mm OD or ID? It also looks like you've switched out the Allen bolts for ones with a broader head to hold the o-ring snug to the shock, or is it just me? Assuming you did switch them out, what size bolt did you use?

Hi, I have dof h3! I would like to buy the vr viewer. I was wondering the movements of the h3 station do you feel them in the vr viewer? let me know thanks.
If you're asking about general VR use with the H3, then yes, I personally highly recommend it. It completely takes motion to the next level as you're no longer aware of what the rig is visually doing, it all just becomes a seamless experience inside the VR headset. I just ran the 2.4 hour Daytona race and to feel the banking while in VR is just wild. Do it! :)
@@topshelf147 I guess it must be pure immersion. I meant about the movements! when you move your head the viewer moves so I was wondering if with the oscillations of the station the viewer moves and gives you that feeling of visual disarray. ps: I'm evaluating pimax 5k plus and reverb g2 excuse my English
Ahh, yes, as long as you have the hmd setup in 6dof my mode, it moves and rotates with the rig, but you don't really notice small oscillations in a way that would be visually upsetting. At least I don't. I know some people are more sensitive to VR. It all feels very natural. There's also a motion tracker that people are using which will help keep your head in perfect alignment with the wheel during large movements. I have it, but haven't spent the time to configure it yet as I'm too lazy, so can't comment if that makes a big difference. There's two very different camps in those headsets. G2 has great clarity, but tiny fov. 5k+ has large fov, but the clarity is not even close. Really depends on personal priorities. For me, driving with small fov ruins any immersion, just can't stand it. So I'd go 5k+, which I had before moving to the 8kx. But it's certainly more money and headache over the simple WMR based G2. Worth trying them out if you can.
@@topshelf147 ok perfect thanks next week i take the reverb g2
Hey dude, I'm looking to buy the DOF sometime soon in the future. Would this work with a G29 wheel / pedals & shifter? Also, what kind of seats does it take? Do they have to be actual car racing seats? I can't find any info on this and I'm pretty much a complete beginner at sims, only want to feel the car moving.
Yes sir. A G29 will definitely work as I've seen all kinds of wheels and pedals mounted to this thing. Worst case you might need to drill a hole in the base plate to match up the the screw hole locations, but I'm pretty certain they already have pre-drilled holes for all of the main patterns, including Logitech. You'll honestly want to look for a racing seat as a harness really makes sense here. Without being strapped in tightly, you'll get tossed around and lose control too much. Just get the cheapest one you can find, like NRG or something similar. I found mine on FB Marketplace. With the seat you'll need side mounts to attach to the H3 supports. You can also add sliders under there I believe, but I've never used them. All racing seats use a universal mounting size, so shouldn't be an issue though. Do get a harness as well though, trust me. Good luck with it, it's really a ton of fun. Best best imo once you get it sorted is to pay for the Premium sub so you can get Intellitune working. With that you can have 90% near perfect results in 5 minutes, then just tweak as needed. Hit me up if you need anything else. Enjoy!
@@topshelf147 hey man, thanks for the reply. When you say racing seat, do you mean actual CAR racing seats? Do the sidemounts usually come with the seats or do I need to get them separately? Also, what premium sub are you talking about? What's Intellitune?
Yes, car racing seat. Just go to Amazon and search for NRG Seat and you'll see exactly what you need. There's a dozen companies, and you don't need actual crash rating, so just grab whatever fits you and you like the look of it. Most likely you'll need to add a harness and the side seat brackets separately, but look for used stuff online as well. Intellitune is a paid part of the SRS software package that controls the motion. SRS should be included with the H3 purchase, but they have a very inexpensive premium subscription that gives you additional features, including Intellitune.
@@topshelf147 ah, I see. Would you mind telling me what chair you're using?
I use a Sparco race seat. Not positive the model, would have to look for a sticker. Got lucky and found a local guy selling a pair from his old race car.

The software should auto detect the game once loaded. Is that not happening for you?
You finally bought the Camry? I've been telling you that's the way to go for comfort and reliability. Welcome to the Toyota club, brother! Just kidding. Awesome ride. Good luck keeping up with ol' Rocket Bill in the twisties.
I don't think there's a man, woman or child this side of the Mississippi that can keep with with the Rocket in the twisties. Plus, I only bought this for the fuel economy. Thanks though jabroni.

Sure, I can grab them for you a little later today. Hopefully they transfer to the H2 nicely for you.
Thats way too much movement lol

Probably because motion rigs are best experienced in VR, so decent monitors are pointless.
i just buy a h3 for my daily racing after work i drive with a pimax too i got the 8k super vision do you have spezial pi tool settings? i am going to customize the h3 when it comes wite with decent led
Congrats! Hopefully you love as much as I do. Plenty of way to customize and mod this rig. For PiTools I'm now running at 1.5 and Steam VR at 50%. There's s belief that that increases the sweet spot, and they might be right, not positive, but either way the performance is the same at 1.0/100%. Other than that, must normal settings and wide fov. Obviously your GPU will determine SS and game settings though. Good luck!
thank you i did try out so many settings i try this setting today 👍🏽
Ha! You guys have perfectly summed it up. lol
Gotta keep it clean. Tire rubbing never ends up well. Trust me.
LMAO. Spot on advice there bruh. Will try to keep it clean.
