Injector tester about $80..very necessary as is the shim to set breaking pressure. and knowing pattern is right, and not dribbling. Otherwise what's the point ?

I use both Sulphuric acids and and Muriatic acids on LS heads with no issues. This guy must be a pitch guy for Home Depot to buy their substandard junk. Usually mixing TSP which is Tri Sodium Phosphate and Muriatic acid is good enough and believe it or not the junk he has in hands is a substandard form of a premixed TSP solution. If you buy a commercial grade TSP or Mix up something like TIDE in a 5 gallon bucket with really hot water add Muriatic acid and its a dream come true. However it is a two step process like most professional shops will take the head out of the hot bath and clean any heavy deposits. Doing this at home in say some big metal tub or big plastic tub you once again need hot water and usually I will put tons of TSP or laundry detergent in the hot water as I sometimes for grungy heads do my thing with boiling water which is best dumped in a metal tub not plastic folks. Hot boiling water can with acids in it or having had acid in it can give ya a real heart attack if done indoors. Plastic gets fatigue real quick from acids. If U use a Sulphuric acid base only use about a half a quart and just pour into your metal tank and brush down the heavy deposits. Not reasons to empty the stuff it gets cold that is when U use the light Muriatic acid with the TSP mixed in hot water. Works like a dream and best temps to work with the stuff is above 70 degrees let is sit a 2-3 days in a metal tank take it out and Immediately coat it with some form of a veggie oil or ever a clean motor oil. It might dull the finish some but it will stop any farther unwanted chemical reactions from happening once the head sits or gets remounted.

Would if thats really important because even though I have a spare, i cant get the bloody old ones out, they are stuck there good...

@@jimfarrell8601 Is your 73 2.0 engine still fuel injected or did you convert it to carbs like I suspect this car has? I've kept mine fuel injected and am happy about it, though I must say dual webers on a type IV engine sound pretty good if you're just out for short runs.

Tip for you lappers ! Figure 8 Be patient. When using grit that is properly matched to the object being lapped, a typical minimum lapping time is 20 minutes for fine abrasives and 30 minutes for coarse abrasives. After the initial lapping session, clean the object and check the progress. Additional 10 to 15 minute sessions may be needed to achieve the desired results. • Use a figure-eight pattern. Regardless of the object being lapped, optimal results are achieved when the object is moved about the lap in a long, slow figure-eight pattern, as shown in Figure 8. This technique continuously redistributes the slurry around the lap, keeping it Figure 7: Lapping set-up. Figure 8: Figure-eight pattern
