    I recommend you buy a Flir C5 thermal imaging camera and find out where the heat is coming in and cold air getting out. You might be able to rent something similar. As a contractor you should seriously consider buying a thermal imaging camera to use on jobs. Don't replace the motor. Try using 30W motor oil to lubricate the bearings. It sounds like the bearing are dry.

    Thanks for the info. Because of this info I’d use two different brands of mini split to avoid the inability to change settings in different rooms.❤❤

    Normally you'll have a back up heat source during cold spells. This is usually your old hvac system. Refrigerant just wont cut it anywhere below 20 degrees

    spray wd40 on the blower motor shaft. or If you can remove the top shaft cover you can change the bearings for a much better make. usually they dont go bad. but sometimes they do.

    Read your manual. The manual addresses all of these issues. It is better to spend more on insulation than to try to control the climate in a poorly insulated homes. Frankly, home construction in the USA is way behind the times. SIPS construction is currently the best way to go and some companies offer the highest R values you will see anywhere. Many homes of this construction are relatively impervious to the elements. Sips homes that are wrapped in metal are the best. Personally, I am more concerned about how a home performs than how it looks. I have seen really drop dead gorgeous homes with loads of problems associated with the construction methods.

    I self installed Blueridge units last fall. Winter cut my heat bill by about 1/3 over the prior ground source heat pumps. (Main savings seemed to be in the cost of pumping water (pump and dump system) which was costing about $150 per month.) Installed 2 systems with air handlers in basement connected to the previously installed ductwork. Also 1 minisplit with 2 heads. I would never install multiple heads on 1 condenser again. Might be better if both heads are in the same area but mine are in a breezeway and the basement workshop in my garage. It is also a pain to change from heating to cooling because it involves going through the garage and downstairs to switch that one and back up for the breezeway. Overall I am very happy with the systems and would do it again. I did cut lines to length and reflare fittings when doing install. The Blueridge systems don't use the precharged linesets and need to be vacuumed after installation.

    As far as the "filter" goes, these are not what I would consider a "filter" ala the pleated ones in your furnace, they are little more than screens and as such a percentage of dust WILL get thru the mesh into the head unit's COILS, that has to be cleaned out as it builds up, restricts airflow and even develops mold

    I WAS going to buy Mr Cool but the price was twice what Tosot was, and they are made at the same Chinese factory which is one reason all of these mini splits look nearly identical to one another; Gree Electric Appliances Inc. of Zhuhai is a Chinese home appliances manufacturer headquartered in Zhuhai, Guangdong province. It is the world's largest residential air-conditioner manufacturer. I read some reviews on Amazon that had more than just a few poor to lousy customer service related complaints, so instead of the $1800 Mr Cool I bought the $899 Tosot. There is one big difference between them- Mr Cool precharges the LINESETS, the others precharge the outdoor condensor unit and the linesets are filled with nitrogen gas and capped. The non Mr Cool units need you to install them as shown here, but after the linesets are attached and PROPERLY torqued to specs, you attach a vacuum pump to get the air out of the line sets and head unit, then open the valve to let the refrigerant into the lines. The vac pump, gage set, an adaptor and nylog was about $200, and it was easy enough and only took a few minutes. SInce I bought two Tosot units a 12,000 and a 9,000 btu- the vac set was used on both which split that cost over both. The units are whisper quiet and put out plenty of heat on the cold mornings, and yesterday used the cooling part on one and it works great, no more window ac rodeo!!

    We had the same problem, and they replaced the motor. I wonder if their motors are defective. More importantly when seeing how gross the the blower wheel was and how difficult it is to get to it, and you really need to remove it to clean with a water hose. I do think I would have reconsidered buying these as I think this needs to be done yearly.

    Contractors/service monkeys are crybabies. If they cant make 500% profit on the sell and install so they are going to punish you when/if you need service. I was quoted 3K per head to install Mr Cool units on a SIPS project that had all the panels pre-engineered for the effort (wiring/drain/line) portals. They wanted 9k to install 3 heads. Wife and I did the whole instal in a weekend. We are still laughing today.

    I can confirm I just had 3 seperate HVAC companies quote me at 30, 40, and 33k to install 3 single and one double mini splits (I own a 4 plex conversion so one for each unit). I looked online for the Mr.cool mini splits and my total cost for parts is at about 10k. I respect tradesman but the difference between spending 15 and upwards of 30 or 40k can’t be stressed enough for people. To give perspective the entire cost of my house is about 100,000 so by their standard 40% of my homes value which includes the existing foundation, furnace, electrical, plumbing, siding, framing, roof, finish materials like flooring, cabinets etc. point is it’s completely insane to charge that type of money on something that can literally be done by yourself or a friends help and I’m not even a DIY guy at all I kind of hate it to be honest.

    Complaining about a 5 minute defrost cycle and having to change a setting that only occurs occasionally to keep your system running correctly. Kinda paints a picture of someone who is really focused on instant gratification. Especially when one of them doesn't require you to do anything, and the other you can do from your phone while sitting on your couch. I dont think i would actually call those cons personally.

    Chane it on one remote, change it on all ... Well. Good luck with that. Did you wired up a separated communication (IO) line to all of the units? No? Well. There is your answer ... It is cheap, and just did not get designed that way ...

  • @djnor1979
    @djnor1979 2 місяці тому

    Most of the cases you have a problem with the BEARING. Which is dirt cheap. Usually to take off the case and replace the (2) bearings, it is not more than one hour work. (Without cleaning, which is highly suggested if you open the case anyways) If your motor is one with the right side bearing, then it will be a bit more long, removing the whole heat exchanger first, but not more than 2 hours of work.

    Mini splits are horrible!! Im an AC contractor in florida. Never liked them. As you see instead of 1 motor to deal with you changed a few. Next you have to put one in each room. Ok just use when in room but no AC in summer can lead to mildew and musty smells. Best is a central heat pump and get the lowedt SEER2 and pit in a frequency drive and youll have an equivalent to a 20 + SEER and dont be lazy and put in ductwork. Only draw back with heat pumps is not good in very cold conditions because theres only so much heat that can be removed from outside when its fricking cold. Next be sure to size properly for the space always. But I hate them because they are very difficult to service as they are entombed in a plastic case that breaks when you need to get to components. Think about it very good before getting a mini horror.
