Spooner Summit to Genoa Peak Hike along the Tahoe Rim Trail 2024
This hike starts at the Spooner Summit south trailhead and goes for about 7 miles south to the summit of Genoa Peak. Once there you will have views of both the Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe. The hike is somewhat challenging and has a couple of good climbs plus the steep climb to the summit of Genoa Peak. The last bit to the summit is on a steep dirt road with a bit of a rock scramble that is not too difficult for most people.
There is a decent amount of parking at the trailhead, but it can fill up quickly on a nice day. Lots of cyclists use these trails as well, so pay attention and be courteous. There are pit toilets at the trailhead, but they we were not maintained very well when we were there. This is a VERY dry stretch of trail, so bring as much water as you can carry if you are doing the full hike.

Silent Hiking to the Summit of Mt. Rose - June 2024 | Snow Report
Переглядів 19721 годину тому
A short video of our hike to the summit of Mt. Rose on June 16th of 2024 showing the trail conditions. Some snow on the trail but all of the patches are pretty easy to go over or around. Only a few somewhat sketchy patches. Shoes with good treads and trekking poles recommended for a little extra safety and to maintain those three points of contact. AllTrails link for this trip: www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/activity-may-20-2024-07a96b1?u=i&sh=yiuvox A relatively easy beginner backpacking trip. Best to do this one in the Spring when the falls have lots of Spring runoff. No permits required, but be aware of local rules about packing out waste and fire regulations. I'm happy to answer any questions in the comments.

It was a busy month full of interesting weather, trips to the farmers market, lots of trivia, a country-themed wedding, social science night at the Discovery Museum, loads of water fowl, and a fun movie night. Please like, comment, share, subscribe, enjoy, and all that jazz. Thanks for watching!
Tule Peak Hike near Pyramid Lake | April 2024

This is a challenging hike. From where we parked, we hiked about 8 miles and climbed roughly 3700'. There is very little shade on the trail. Not a hike I would recommend for a hot day. Go early in the morning or on a cool day. Remember that once you get to the summit you have to get back down. The descent is almost worse than the climb, and it can be tricky in spots with all of the unstable roc...

The month started and ended with snow. There was some hiking and some exploring, more trivia, and the critters are starting to come out of their winter hiding places. We also dyed some eggs and enjoyed good food for St. Patrick's Day. Oh, and we had a yummy meal at the Western Village Steak House and opening day happened for baseball.

Had some fantastic weather this weekend so I just needed to get out for a hike. Some mud in places and lots of snow as you get closer to the falls. Spikes will be your friend but you can get there without them (albeit slowly and with more risk!) Getting on the trail early is your best bet so you can get parking and to avoid the worst of the mud. Here's an AllTrails link to my hike today: www.al...
Rancho San Rafael Park Hike in Reno
Переглядів 823 місяці тому
A nice little hike around Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno. It was a blustery day but we just had to get out and explore. This is an easy hike that is suitable for almost anyone. No huge hills and lots to do and see along the way. This park is well known to locals since the annual balloon races are held here each year. The park is just north of downtown Reno and adjacent to the University of Neva...

Quick highlights of things that happened in February. Very stream of consciousness. Just tried to briefly capture day-to-day events in an entertaining format. This is a work in progress, but I hope to keep doing these. Moving forward. Hopefully this format gives me an opportunity to try out some different things.

Tahoe-Pyramid Trail Hike to Fleish Bridge
What a peaceful video! Looks like you had a great day.
The only other time I came through this area was when we hiked the Tahoe Rim Trail. The first part of the hike is difficult, but once you get to where the bench is you are rewarded with some of the best views on the trail.
Great video!
Thank you!
I'm #1 to give this a thumbs up. This is an all new area I was unaware of. Thanks for sharing your time, effort, & equipment on this outdoor adventure. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.
As always, I enjoy sharing the beauty of our back yard.
Great views. ❤
Views from Mt. Rose almost never fail to disappoint (unless it’s covered in clouds)
I recognized the exact location of every scene. Excellent video showing the hike up to Mt Rose, 10,766' summit elevation.
Wow, this is what I would call the perfect adventure ;) Wonderful scenery and incredible views!
A little bit of snow to make it more interesting, but not so much that it was a slog.
What a beautiful day!
Love it
Great song.
Hard to go wrong with Bela Fleck
What are you listening to?
Music :)
Excellent vibe capturing the magical moments in time !!!
Thank you. Hauling the extra gear to film these moments is totally worth it.
I've hiked the Rim to Reno trail, both the 20 mile & 25 mile hikes, ending at this Thomas Creek Trailhead. Sadly both times, in 2021 & 2022 the view along the rim were obscured by smoke from CA wildfires. 2 overnights on the shorter hike, 3 overnights on the longer hike. If you ever decide to hike the Rim to Reno trail let me know so I can provide you with the all important geo co-ords of water sources at Bronco Creek & high up on the trail coming down alongside Thomas Creek Begin your Rim to Reno hike from the Mt Rose trailhead - trust me on this. Dry Pond loop which I hiked numerous times, I've always started at the Thomas Creek trailhead & hiked like you in a counter-clockwise direction. Lots of geocaches along all these trails. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
Yes, my plan is to start the Rim to Reno at the Mt. Rose trailhead and mostly do a lot of descending. My son will join me so we have a car at each end. This is a favorite hike that Boy Scouts can do to complete their hiking merit badge, though I’ve never done it myself!

Great video. The water felt so refreshing.😊❤
What was sleeping in the tree?
A mourning dove nesting with her chicks
I can see why you enjoy this jaunt! What a great place to spend a night.
It’s always nice to get away from civilization for a bit. Granted, we weren’t TOO far away, but it sure felt like it.
Beautiful! ❤🦝🦌🐿🐻🦆🦉🐦🐝🐞🌲🪺🦫🦊
I enjoy sharing the beauty of the Sierras.
Which luau did you attend? Great video, can’t wait to go this summer 😊
We were walking along the beach by the Grand Hyatt in Poipu. We weren’t staying there, but the luau at the Grand Hyatt had just finished. Everyone had left but the signs were still lit so we went and shot some video :)
Can you bike this trail?
Even if bikes are allowed, it is so crowded with hikers that biking doesn’t seem feasible. I’ve never seen a cyclist on the trail so my guess is that they aren’t allowed.
Can you bike that trail?
I’m not sure. I don’t recall seeing any signs, but I wasn’t looking for them.
AWESOME hike! I actually did this one a couple of days ago (May 3, 2024). I took a slightly different route, but got there just the same. I got a late afternoon start (5:00PM), but got to see a REALLY great sunset from the summit. The hike down in the dark was mostly uneventful, but I had a weird encounter close to the bottom with a mustang. Not sure if THAT could have turned out bad.
That sunset must’ve been spectacular!
😣 *Promo sm*
Haha are you hiring
A lovely month! Always fun to see your name on the big screen. 💜
Nice share 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Loved the footage of your hike up & back + the Pronghorn Antelope. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.
Very lovely! The desert has a beauty all its own. The views are panoramic and stunning! Thank you both!
You bet!
Wha a interesting scenery my friend! Outstanding panoramic views 👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Camp Fleischmann hat!? I used to work there 15 years ago when I was 15
Indeed. I was an assistant scoutmaster and my son was the SPL. Great memories.
Beautiful views at the tip! The lake is gorgeous, and you can see Mt. Lassen! I love seeing all the horned toad lizards. Oh man, those morman crickets are monsters!
There were so many crickets!
@@sierranevadahikes8538 when we stopped over in Winnamucca last year and hiked in Water Canyon there were thousands!! It was kinda creepy 😆
I love to watch the antelope! And of course the horny toads. The views were stupendous.
Beautiful waterfall and a great hike! Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@national geographic
Also multiple days at high elevation, and it seemed Whitney still had you gasping. Any advice for a novice hiker ? Breaks? Food intake? When to call it quits? Awesome video. You guys are amazing! Thank you
The Sierras make a good subject. Hard not to shoot beautiful video.
What a great trip. Thanks for taking the time to share.
You are welcome. It was an amazing trip, for sure.
Where was the steakhouse??
Western Village steakhouse in Sparks, NV. Always fabulous.
@sierranevadahikes8538 never been there. We always go to Pancho and Willie's if we go to western village.
Fantastic! A vlog that’s much more cinematic
Wonderful video. 😊
Looks like fun .😊
Nice video. 😊
BEAUTIFULLY done. 😊
Amazing video .😊

Love your channel as someone newish to the area. Great home ideas.
Glad to hear! Planning more local hike videos once this snow melts.
Glad you got your spikes back! I love this hike.
Me too!
Finding a MicroSpike on a muddy/snowy trail would be a real FIND. She never figured the person who lost it would come looking for 'em & ask that she give 'em back. I know that hike well whether the trail is dry, muddy, or snowy. I carry my MicroSpikes in the bag that came with 'em. They are truly a MUST HAVE when hiking a snow packed trail. It is the only time I carry/use trekking poles. Really nice seeing the flow of water at the waterfall. There are geocaches to be found from beginning all the way up to & past the waterfall. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
I've hiked all around San Rafael Regional Park & found lots of geocaches. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.
What a great place for a walk!
Even on a windy, brisk day it was quite nice.
So glad y'all could come adventuring 🥰
Thanks for taking us along!
