Hi, I recently had a Rheem Proterra Heat Pump Water heater installed in new construction. It recently did a phenomenal job, detected a leak, and turned the shut off valve on the tank. I was hoping you could share more about how the leakguard works? It didn't look like the leak was near the tank, but it was in a different fixture (toilet). How does it detect a leak in the house but not at the heater? I might have this all wrong, but it looked like it detected a leak at a toilet which doesn't draw hot water. Note the heater was set in AWAY mode when it sent me the warning remotely. Thanks

I have a 50 gal.2023 model Prestige ProTerra Hybrid WH. As I understand it, there are periods of non-use (like overnight) when the WH energy-saver mode will kick on for brief periods to keep the water hot. During periods of daily use throughout the day, how much of the 50 gallons of hot water has to be used before the unit begins recovery in that mode? When the unit is in energy-saver mode I also understand that the heat pump will shut down at temps below 37 degrees and the unit will depend on just one electric element to heat water. Does the unit ever revert to heating with both elements while in the energy-saver mode, or must I switch to electric mode to heat with both elements to speed up the recovery process?

Is the condensation corrosive? Can we route it to the sump pump?

Hey Rheem! Are you listening to these comments and responding by improving a flawed product? I bought and installed my water heater last week and the comments have not changed from when the video first posted. After spending several thousand dollars on a water heater, I expected a much higher feature than EcoNet provides.

I've had one about a week and it works fine now. I had a problem during install because the input and outport pipes are labeled with just a paper sticker on the top cover. And the stickers were reversed from what the install guide showed. That's pretty poor quality control by rheem.

How can you tell if it’s the new model?

Very cool! I've had my Gen 5 rheem HPWH for a few years now working flawlessly, other than replacing a thermister. The top connections and the duct connections will help so much during installation. With the energy savings, i've surpassed the cost of the water heater and still going compared to my old electric water heater. I almost want to upgrade to the new model, as db sound rating seems to be much lower than my current model. 😅

What happens when the heat pump fails in years to come down the road? Plumbers like myself cannot repair that. Will the homeowner have to call an A/C repair technician? Or just replace the whole W/H?

This hot water heater has been replaced 4 x times yes its under warranty, but they do not pay for the installation coast. Do the math it's not worth this system.... 👎

I have the Rheem HP50ES Eco Sense. It has been GREAT and dependable. Tell me about the recommended anode replacement cycle.

What are maintenance and replacement expectations for these heat pump water heaters?

Can we get more information about Energy Saver modes vs. Heat Pump only? Wouldn't running it in Heat Pump only save more energy?

It gets cold in the winter where I live, and I had another brand heat pump water heater that did poorly in those conditions. It wouldn't consistently kick on the electric element even when tank temperatures dropped 30+ degrees from the set point. What is the programming logic on Rheem's hybrid units when the incoming water temperature is very cold? Is it delta T or something else?

@Josh withrow No, the 240 Volt units do not have a mixing valve.

@WIlliam Haupert The unit has various modes that can prioritize either efficiency or hot water production so that the homeowner can select the best one for their application. For maximum hot water production, you can select high-demand mode.

@Rws0205jm The unit does have zero clearance sides and back.

Is this a direct vent and do we need an expansion tank still?

@David Pollack Using the EcoNet app, you can schedule for time of use rates.

@Michael Mortimer The warranty is 10 year tank and parts, 1 year for labor.

@Richard J (Rich) Tankless or tank. Both have their benefits. It comes down to preference and water demand. It's best to discuss with your plumber.

@Robert Crawford For attic installation, you'd have to take into account the ambient air temperature. Maximus operating ambient temp is 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

@Rs0205jm You can mix and match top and side water connections. You can use any combination of one inlet and one outlet.
