    How did you attach the wire to the balun?? And also, did you use a preamp for this??

    • @tunedsignal
      @tunedsignal 10 днів тому

      The balun has two holes for the wires to go in... There is a spring loaded button that you press which open the holes on the end. The spring button when release pulls the contactor to the wire and holds it pretty snugly. Note a 1:1 balun would perform better. Thank for watching... Stay Tunned

    Is the Morse code like government secrets and stuff

    • @tunedsignal
      @tunedsignal 12 днів тому

      Not at all Morse code is a way to communicate with sound pulses. It originated as a way to communicate via telegraph, which is a "tapping" device you use with your fingers to produce short and long tones. Telegraphs were at the time connected via wires between places. Morse code (named after one of its creators Samuel Morse) is the name of the code system where each letter of the alphabet has a corresponding series of tones. Short tones are called dots (now called dits) and long tones are called dashes (now called dahs). (its also more fun to say dah dah dit dah dah dah note the space between the two series) The letter A is represented by a short tone then a long tone. Its written notation looks like this using the dashes and dots. A ._ B _... C _._. and so on.. There is one note... The code we use today has been updated from the original encoding method. It is now called International Morse code) You can find the complete code online .. check Wikipedia or checkout UA-cam videos. Something EVERYONE should know is how to call for help with Morse code. Using the internationally recognized code for help SOS (Which I have heard several acronyms for what it stands for) Commonly, SOS stands for save our souls.. The is simply the code for letters for S and O and would look like this _ _ _ ... _ _ _ It could save your life if someone saw the letters or heard you tapping in nearby or in the distance. Elmers jump in! oh wait.. I just realized I might be an Elmer... Thats an odd thought...

    Gain slider control appears to be set low by default, ticking the tuner AGC disables the Gain slider, so we do not use the two tick boxes as seems to cause problems so untick the two boxes and use the gain slider manually, appears to give the best results for me.

    • @tunedsignal
      @tunedsignal 14 днів тому

      You are correct. I have found that new users just don't see anything so having higher gain allows them to start high and lower from there. The side effect of this is high gain also increases noise. In fact if you are dealing with a weak signal it can be lost in the increased noise floor.

      Plug in your SDR and connect an an antenna. Start with FM radio That will be 88MHz -107.7MHz Be sure you are entering in the right number of digits so 103.7 MHz will be 000.103.700.000 You'll know you are in the right range if you see FM Broadcast in the FFT (the top middle part of the window with the peaks of the waveforms. If you don't see the labeled blue band AND you are in the right range.. make sure you have USA band plan selected and enabled in the Band Plan group on the left menu) You will need to set your modulation to WFM make sure squelch is NOT checked in fact the only thing you should have checked in the Source group will be IQ correction and in the Radio group select WFM as indicated above and NOTHING else for this test. From there move up to 117-128MHz Switch to AM in Radio... you should be able to hear Air Traffic control and aircraft communication. You can adjust your min and max ranges on the right so you have a nice royal blue.. lower your min value so the area in between the signals (your noise floor) is low-ish. You want to see.. I typically have the lowest part of the noise touching the lower line above the frequency labels below. The max slider increases the height of the peaks. I adjust it so I see a tiny bit of red.. a VERY tiny bit. Those are my preferences for looking at the waterfall... Others Max an min to their liking... bu you definitely need to get the noise disply under control so you can see signal and tune properly) OK OK Wake up!! Sorry for the long post... (ha) Let us know what you hear!

Only works on phone, but im from PC now. SDRSharp works, i can hear FM, even romanian one now haha😁 A couple of air traffic too, so its working thats for sure. On CB channels i see a couple of powerful red lines, but however i change to AM-FM-USB, i cant hear anything. There are some rare really powerful ones i can hear, usually from the another side of the world, like how CB band travels to us :) But not the others sadly. In theory, someone used FM from around 20-25KM away, but i heard nothing, usually thats a distance where i still supposed to hear that with a long GPE27 antenna like mine. Great video. You actually don't want to use the 9:1 balun with the dipole. A dipole as is is close to the impedance you want without the balun. In this case, you should use a 1:1 balun instead.

    • @tunedsignal

      I have since learned this... It's a bit embarrassing now... But What I have learned since is a 9:1 is good for a long wire with HF. The reason why it worked on was due to signal strength.... I heard rail workers on MURS the other day. May have been a repair contractor but they were definitely doing train related activities on train tracks. I'm using SDRUno with a RSP1B; it's been pretty cool. I started listening on web sdrs using SDR# and various web-portals. Right now I have a Moonraker discone that is advertised to receive "0.05 to 2GHz" I think the weak link at the moment is my coax, and I also need to get my antenna up higher. (I know I am not going to be able to hear the entire 0.05 to 2 gigahertz spectrum with one antenna and one length of coax, but what I have now is having difficulty receiving GMRS frequencies and I know it's not the antenna and it isn't the receiver so I'm looking at the coax)

    Oh I can see this is going to cost me money 🤣 I’m really new to this, so is the signal received through the internet or from a satellite through the antenna?

    • @tunedsignal
      @tunedsignal 28 днів тому

      😂 It could be. The RTL-SDR V4 is a good and inexpensive way to start. However you will want to look into an SDR Play or similar in the future. They have amazing performance.

    Fantastic video. Probably the best SDR / HAM related video I’ve ever seen on UA-cam. These SDR manufacturers should pay you to do their marketing videos. Most of them seem stuck making 90’s corporate training videos. 🙄 It’s really a shame that this hobby is hobbled by old inflexible types that have not and refuse to keep up with the technology. Just imagine if they were making cellphones and your phone worked the way SDR / HAM radios do and came with the software and instructions.

    RTL SDR V4 detected but can't get any thing but a few constant tones. No speech or music even on FM. If I go to WFM and areas I know there are stereo broadcast, when I click on the signal spikes, the sound goes quiet. Airspy in SDR mode is working fully with my V4, so I know the hardware is working. SDR++ nightly is listed as working with V4
