mad hearing an American talking about where i live ahaha
When the nation had pride ,now our ships are built abroad. pathetic.
Looking at the picture of these flight attendants, they are all so young! Just young women in their 20s!
She looks so futuristic, even now.
Where's the odeon is that near the town centre.
Bullcrap! those ghosts were not there to help but give people a nervous breakdown, those passengers who had those encounters were scared to death and never been the same persons.
1960-2005 Wonderful ship in it's day. Family sailed from UK to Australia in 1967 and I had the most memorable 21st birthday party around the pool. Now what was that handsome 3rd officer's name, interesting times!!! ❤ We were the last ship to travel through the Suez for some time and that was pretty amazing!
Triple expansion steam turbines, 600 first class, 1500 steerage class, this liner looked absolutely wonderful ❤
RIP Jim … you are missed so much!
Les Dawson sat in the same dressing room as sid , doing his make up. He got a whiff of the aroma of whiskey and then to the left of him in the mirror he saw Sid James dressed in white with black eyes, and looking frightful, his face contorted and twisted more craggy than in life. He looked at les aware of his presence and shouted at Les, Les shot up and rushed from the dressing room. Later he took one of his extras with him to collect his stuff ,getting the extra to gather his items from the table at the mirror. It is still not known what Sid shouted but it's pretty obvious it would have been something about Les being next if continue to drink to excess like he was doing at that time.
Bad thing about aluminum is if they’re’s a fire it melts
What an era!!!! I was not yet born when this ship was built, I was born in '62. You know what I'd give to have those days back again!!!!!!!!!!! Once again like so many others, she faded away and was finally cut up for scrap!!!!!!!!
RIP Jim and grandma. You are forever in my heart.
For me she was the most beautiful ship's design ever. From the outside! The interiour though didn't live up to her formidable hull.
Sir Leonard Redshaw signing the ship off at the end.
11:14 guy in middle smoking was called Bob Hughes a welder originally from Merseyside.
did it have to be so loud?
Stunning film. I worked on her from Southampton 1980 to Sydney 1983...wonderful times.
No hard hats, no ear protection, no safety glasses, and those shoes probably don't have steel toes.
It's all B*LL SH*T ...... No credible evidence whatsoever !!!
Beautiful words, sung beautifully by John Denver.
Spooky laughs. If I was a spooky ghost I’d be able to walk through walls. And walk straight out of the Sunderland Empire and catch a ghost train, yes I know, to the South of France where I’d bask in the sun and haunt a five star hotel not creep about the Empire.
My Family and I came to New Zealand on that ship approximately 1965 docked in Auckland. Was wondering recently what has become of her
My family migrated to Australia in 1968. We came to Australia on the Oriana and it took us 28 days from Florida to Sydney. Some great memories. I was only 12 years old.
Cigarette burns on the new material 13:41😒
The comment towards the end about sailing Sydney, Auckland, Suva, Honolulu, Vancouver is a direct reference to the COMPAC telephone cable laid by cable ships of Cable & Wireless. I sailed on the Cable Ship Mercury in 1964, those words were part of a well known drinking song, the chorus being "...The COMPAC will never go down..." meaning, never fail. Cable was laid by CS Mercury, CS Retriever and HMTS Monarch and commissioned in December 1963. Saw the grand old lady Oriana many times in Suva when I was stationed there on CS Retriever after two and a half years on CS Mercury.
booorrriiiinnggg fooorrreeevvveeerrr!!!!
Very interesting
The narrator is Maurice Denham.
I used to go in there to play the organ about 8am while the cleaners were in, before school in 1974-5, had to go behind the stage to switch it on. I never saw anything but I always felt spooked, when I trained as a spiritualist medium my mind went straight back to those mornings
Travel on her three times beautiful looking ship but the interior lacked soul I personally preferred the Canberra..
I sailed on her Melbourne, Australia to Southhampton, UK on Oct. 1965. Beautiful ship. I believe she was still considered the head of the P.& O. fleet even after the "Canberra' was launched.
Oriana was built for Orient line not P&O
She held the Golden cockerel for the fastest ship in the fleet faster than Canberra and passed the title and the cockerel emblem on to the new mv Oriana when she was sold off.
Thanks for sharing Jim, I was 11 in ‘69 and our family did a 28 night Christmas Cruise out of Vancouver BC, through the Panama Canal, visiting a number of the Caribbean Islands and back to Vancouver. Brought back a few memories for sure. 👍
Bullshit!
this poem has been framed and hangs on my wall for years to put out your hand..touch the FACE OF GOD. t
In 2002, I visited this ship in my hometown Dalian.
Brilliant telling of the old tale of the cauld (cold) lad as we pronounce it.. I live right beside the castle and can vouch for how cold it can get on a night time, even in a comfy home with heat it gets cold up here. Poor lad, i grew up with this story being told even in school there (was) even a pub called the cauld lad. A lot of truth to this legend....... Thanks for the upload,, next you should tell of another local tale THE LAMBTON WORM, it was a dinosaur belive it or not. It had "git big teeth and googly eyes" big enough to wrap itself around a hill 7 times of love for you to do that one THANKS.
Beautiful, Jim! Thank you!
This poem inspired me as a young child. Over 50 years later, I still slip the surly bonds of Earth, and dance the skies on laughter-silvered wings. Amen.
Sailed her in the Summer of 1968 from Southampton to Long Beach via the Panama Canal great fun for a lad of 18 :-)
Gerald Davis I'm glad you enjoyed being on the big O
What's that 'line-out' all about?? Not mine . . .! US kids crossed the north border long before Pearl to join the RCAF for the "Battle Of Britain". . . .! And "High Flight" (by an RCAF pilot) always played before the Star Spangled Banner ended the night to the 'test pattern' . . .!
J. G. Magee was "A Canadian-American" RCAF, North of the USA--when many young Americans also first volunteered. Used to listen to the original TV midnight sign- off. JFK later said "Ask Not . . ." so I Flew Navy in '62. This is now also part of my collection of "High Flights". Thank you Mr. Ross.
Sailed on her 1968 ran aground in Panama Canal. Patched up and Sailed on to England on one engine, Marvellous ship.
Great reading. It is so hard to find quality poetic recordings online. Thank you for this.
Thank you Jim.
Where are the photos with the male and female spirits?
Mysterywhiteboy78 those were taken in 1973 and are not available.
@@jimross736 why are they not available ?? What books were they featured in ??
I say these photos don't exist.. Not available isn't good enough
There are orbs all over the photos did you notice in the loft area photos?
Mysterywhiteboy78 yes. and the face in the loft is the old chief projectionist Jimmy Mac.
I went to Braunstone Hall School in the 70's - regularly the piano would play by its-self and heard by many in the daytime - The piano was situated in the main foyer to the left as you went in the main front door - I remember the mural of the winstanley family on the walls going up the spiral staircase - We used to play on the big trees round the back beside the playground and the lower playground was for juniors - would love to visit it inside again - hope they re- open it, would bring back lots of memories -
before my time, but built in my home yard, and many of the tradesmen who supervised my apprenticeship talked fondly of her
it went from Braunstone hall to Belgrave hall
