    if the mold becomes a problem try getting some trays made from sheets of copper, mold cannot grow on copper, copper has inherent anti fungal, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties, which disrupt the cell walls of the microbes by releasing copper ions, the ions literally punch holes through the microbe's cell walls killing them. the more water you expose the copper to the more ions it releases so the better it does to kill of viruses, molds, bacteria etc.

    OMG! what you doing woman? First of all you dont use a pocket knife to cut into a abscess as thats infection right there. You let go of it thats just down right stupidness. You shouldn't be anywhere near any Animals never mind farm animals. Stick to brushing your teeth and dolling yourself up as this is not for you. Stop now before there is a huge accident!

    I very much like what you are doing, and giving the cattle fresh feed in winter has got to be very popular with them -as well as providing a health boost. Have you looked into the nutritional profile and feed yield calculations compared to dry weight feed? I would love to hear about that if you have looked at it. That is what most hardheaded farmers I know would ask me immediately.

    How would you deal with mold for a fodder system for rabbits ? Im unsure if cows can eat mold but I know Rabbits cant sadly. Does Mold on the side of the metal tray not contaminate the whole batch ?

    It called sprouting or sprouts. You need to change how you have your setup, your should be water from the front (open side) and let the water run to the back and have it drain from that side..

    I dont see how this will ever be cheaper than hay and pasture. Cows/ruminants have been on pasture for thousands of years. I guess its better than corn.

    • @dylantkl
      @dylantkl 6 місяців тому

      It may not be cheaper nor less effort, but it seem like it is more healthier for the ruminants as oppose feeding them grain. Less inflammation I think

    Isn't it impossible for fodder to multiply nutritional value and calories etc?? You aren't adding anything to the seeds other than water. So you are increasing bulk when they incorporate water, but not nutrition in any way??? You can't get something from nothing.

    • @jdotmay
      @jdotmay 6 місяців тому

      My guess is that through utilization of photosynthesis. The plants are converting c02 and sunlight, which is the cause for increase in energy.

    • @dynomotivedyno9194
      @dynomotivedyno9194 6 місяців тому

      @@jdotmay but there isn't any meaningful photosynthesis during sprouting.

    We have a fodder unit on a trailer, so it’s movable, just needs water & electricity. Here in Texas we use wheat berries, since barley isn’t readily available. My cows love the wheat biscuits. I put a little bleach in the water that wheat is soaked in and a little bit in the water tank that automatically sprays on the trays of pre-soaked wheat berries, to help control the mold growth. It’s a little labor intensive, but it’s 68 degrees inside the trailer, so it’s comfortable working inside, especially during the hot Texas summers.

    03:30 that cleaning step can be automated, have some high power nuzzles on the bottom of the rack below and have some industrial grade tubing going to a tank holding some fungicide that is biodegradeble and that waste wouldn't be a problem for your water upcycling

    • @andyjohnson3790
      @andyjohnson3790 9 місяців тому

      Well they could at least brush the mold off the sides and then wash out the not germinated seeds. This would reduce washing out the trays twice.

  • @robertbass5283

    Very interesting process…I had no idea that farmers grow grass (fodder) in this way. I guess your farm has found this technique, more cost efficient than feeding hay ?
