Little ruby throated hummingbird is in a dangerous situation. She needs some help!
This little Ruby throat hummingbird female (Archilochus colubris) was just sitting in my driveway in the path of my car tires...or a cat, weasel, or hawk. Looking a little disoriented, I'm not sure if she hit something, was dehydrated,.....or just old. I wasn't really sure how to pick her up safely to move her...only being the size of a peanut. (Sorry about the baby talk in the video. Yeesh. ) Anyways, I tried to get her onto a little platter with some sugar water. It all turned out good! I never thought I would be petting a hummingbird. As New England's only hummingbird species, they are a treat to see. One of my more interesting "rescues".

Cool old Toro lawnmower. 3 speed GTS 2 550 from the 90's. Rear wheel drive mower is in shambles.

This thoroughly neglected old Toro lawn mower had been outdoors under a tarp for years before I got it. Model # 20436, with a 5hp Briggs and Stratton model 124702-3115-01. I think it is mid 1990's vintage? These seem to have such a long wheel base compared to newer mowers. Just look. Reminds me of my old Toro GTS with the Suzuki engine. The handles were falling off this one. I did a good carbur...
Hysterical! A big nest of tiny little orb spiders scrambling and swinging about.

These little garden spider babies (Arigope aurantia) are great. Harmless by all means, and great bug eaters when mature. When grown, they make big, beautiful, symmetrical orb webs. I discovered a good sized nest of babies near my porch railing, and gave them a little poke, plus blew a little air on them. They would dive for cover on a thread of silk, then haul themselves back up into the nest! ...

Age wise, I'd put this old Honda lawnmower model HRR2164TDA somewhere around 2005. A Honda 3 speed rear wheel drive with variable speed throttle and a shutoff valve. It's pretty grubby and disheveled looking. It's missing the bale-bar to start and stop, the air filter and cover...and even the gas cap is gone for crying out loud. Starting with my game of "Should it stay or should it go now?" I h...

2 dead & different chainsaws combined into one working saw! This "Frankensaw" actually cuts wood!!

It's alive! It's ugly! A little of this and a little of that. A non-working craftsman 16" chainsaw and a non working dump-picked Poulan model 2150 Super Clean chainsaw are combined into a nice running green and gray hybrid Frankensaw! These are both 1990's vintage. The chain could use a sharpening, but it took down a 40-50 foot dead pine tree in my yard no problem.

    They were needed for lawns with slopes and being 2 cycle they could mow slopes without worry of them not getting the lubrication they needed. 4 cycle mowers especially old splash types could be damaged mowing slopes so these were highly sought after from people that had sloping lawns.

    i recently got my hands on one of these. i was cleaning the carb and was like well why is it so thick. bad fuel and it had oil in it. drain the tank but nothing was in it and on the cap 2 stroke. while i was cleaning the carb i thought the carb looked like a 2 stroke carb. got it all back together and started right up. and sounded exactly like a snowblower. the blades need sharpened but it still tore through some literally almost waist high grass first and only pass. for what i paid and what i got. this falls into the steal category. i love 2 strokes so one more reason to run one. i use lucas 2 stroke semi synthetic oil in my 2 strokes so low smoke and 50:1 ratio they will last forever. my moped has a race cylinder on it and uses same oil and after thousands of miles there is 0 wear. im sure the same will go with this thing. it barely has any use on it so its gonna be like getting one brand new.

    mine smokes like a mosquito sprayer.,.. any suggestions?

    • @TenaciousCsRescueLeague
      @TenaciousCsRescueLeague Місяць тому

      Hmmm. If it is a bluish smoke, the machine is likely burning oil. Usually the piston rings wearing down from age, or a scuffed cylinder caused by running low/empty on oil at a brief time in the past. Could also be worn valve guides allowing oil to drip in. Fixable, but requires an engine tear down and some finesse. If black smoke, and running rough, likely the choke is stuck closed. That is an easier fix. Sorry. Those engines are classic. Might be worth having a go at it. Best, -C

    Ahhhh the 215 clog-o-matic. Beautiful lawn mower for a two inch lawn….anything more forget it. I got mine free in the junk. With the controls broken off. I had to fudge everything back together. I opened the bottom of my bag, and cut the plastic on the starboard side open. And mounted a license plate for a deflector. Now it will handle a four to six inch lawn. Still plugs up. And grass sticks like mad to the underside. But, free….it still works, and I reward it with frequent oil changes. 😊

    • @TenaciousCsRescueLeague
      @TenaciousCsRescueLeague 2 місяці тому

      Hey there. Thanks for having faith in my abilities. Unfortunately I don't have a video for that. I have replaced the pull starters on a number of mowers over the years...but not this particular one. I would imagine it entails (looking strait down from the top), removing a few screw or small hex bolts to take of the decorative cover. This exposes the recoil assembly with the rope. 3-4 small bolts hold this on. Remove that and you have the rope & recoil in your hand. One screw underneath in the center probably holding spring/rope in. Replacing the rope and spring mechanism can be a little tricky (perhaps other vids out there?) It might be possible to buy the recoil part already assembled. Mabey as an aftermarket or e-bay. That would be an easy fix. Sorry. Good luck. It's worth saving ! -C

      Thanks for checking it out. Yeah, as I have mentioned over the years, when I picked it up I didn't even know what I had! I passed it up on the first pass, and the guy with the front end loader almost crushed it. I've found several other LawnBoys, but all 4 stroke. I never find ANY 2 cycle mowers :( Cheers! -C

    I bought a similar Toro on FB last winter. It's a late 80's Super Recycler 6HP Briggs Quantum (I think) engine. Needed some TLC but it was all there, including the bag. Gave it a complete service including oil change, air filter, plug, took the wheels off and greased axels and gears, repacked grease in tranny, greased cables, and gave it a good cleaning. Only thing I haven't done yet is sharpen the blade. Could probably use a carb service but it runs well. It's become my favorite mower and I have two newer Recyclers and one Honda powered Craftsman. So much fun using a vintage mower!!!!

    This is a fruitcake if you think this thing is scary, just use common sense, that’s what everyone back in the day had that’s why stuff was made with quality, people are stupid motherfrickers. That’s why they have to have so many features.

    Nice to know I’m not the only one who is crazy about this one model. I found mine from a scrap truck I flagged down 4 years ago, usually has nice things people throw out. Its been the best Toro product I’ve owned other than the Toro 1030 OHAE snow blower I have. I use mine to cut my lawn and few other neighbors just for the joy of using it. I always wondered if it was a commercial mower due to the quality and features it has, nonetheless it cuts professionally and always am told what nice cuts I give after each mow. Recently it started to smoke a lot consuming more oil than gas, the fuel tank mount broke, oil cap would never close tight, I ended up finding another model on marketplace with a good engine cracked deck, took that motor off and swapped it to mine. Came with an extra bag, side discharge piece & mulch plug! Just had it serviced can’t wait to use it for the 2024 season!

      That's a great back story. Thanks, man. I think I mentioned that this was my Dad's mower. It had sat idle in my Mom's garage for years before I grabbed it. The air filter (foam) had crumbled away. It had oil and it started up with just a few pulls with a tank of fresh gas. Outrageous! Of sentimental value, I only pull it out once or twice a year for a cut. I also have a junked Toro GTS 550 Super Pro Recycler II that I picked up. It is of similar deck design and 3 speed drive. Not sure if it has the blade clutch. Has B&S engine though. Not even sure if it works. A new project and video! Cheers, -C

    What did you spray in the Carburetor?

    • @TenaciousCsRescueLeague
      @TenaciousCsRescueLeague 5 місяців тому

      Sometimes I spray a little starting fluid into the carb. It goes by the trade name "Instant Start". Basically, it is mostly just ether in a can. Carb cleaners such a "Gumout" are good too. Just make sure you get the flammable carb cleaners to give it the jump start. -C

    Thats how people runs things and how the get hurt because they don't know how to use machinery. Those chipper shredders is not designed to chip up or shred cardboard boxes they are designed for limbs and leaves and other yard waste. What you did in this video with that wood chipper wirh that cardboard bottle cartoon that was just dumb and stupid on your part.

    • @TenaciousCsRescueLeague
      @TenaciousCsRescueLeague 6 місяців тому

      Cardboard = Tree pulp. The machine could care less what it shreds. Thanks for viewing. -C

    • @TimothyTate-tc5yk
      @TimothyTate-tc5yk 6 місяців тому

      @@TenaciousCsRescueLeague true of the fact that cardboard= tree pulp. But how ever paper shredder was designed to shred paper and cardboard. And the chipper shredder was designed to chip wood and shred leaves. Two different machines that's designed for two different things. I guess that you have no concerns of teenagers that may watch you video and and watch you put a cardboard bottle carton into the chipper shredder and then get the idea putting cardboard in chipper shredders that was designed for chipping wood and leaves and then it ends up getting seriously heart. Or your children watching you putting cardboad in the chipper shredder and trays doing the same thing when your not around and put their arm in the machine while it's running to unclog and they get their hand. I would have to say that you're not a very good example of being a responsible adult when you make videos doing stupid things.

      Pal, I'll try typing slower or leaving more space between the words to get this across to you....since I can't SPEAK it to you sloooowly in print: A Shredder could CARE LESS if it shreds leaves or a six- pack carrier. It is EFFORTLESS . Much as a LEAF BLOWER DOESN'T CARE if it blows LEAVES....or STICKS...or GRASS CLIPPINGS.... or PAPER CONFETTI from a ticker tape PARADE, or even SNOW. Furthermore A kid could easily get hurt just as easily shredding leaves or a 6-pack container. As a matter of fact.....a kid should not even be near something like this P E R I O D. . They and their parents bear the burden of r e p o n s i bi l i t y (as stated in the manual: to NOT ALLOW CHILDREN NEAR UNATTENDED OR TO TO OPERATE). If these devices terrify you so much, JUST HIRE A LANDSCAPER and watch from the safety of your living room :) Good day. I'll entertain this no longer. Cheers! -C

    Awesome find on the mower. That is the same mower I use to this day. My Dad gave me the mower after I bought my first house. I love Lawn-Boy mowers. Probably because I first was cutting lawns with a 1968/69 version that my grandfather gave my Dad to have. I really love the sound of the old 2 cycles though. EPA took care of those. I still see resto vids on them. Great video.
