Thanks for a very interesting video ! I observed a badger recently feeding on ants and have been trying to track its sett down. How far do badgers roam around from their setts?

Thanks Max, eating ants, awesome. Summer time, up to a mile is what I learnt, depends how food rich their area is for them, and during winter they drop their body temperature and although dont hibernate, they rarely eat and just come out to use the latrine.

I love this blind. I took your tip and gave it a few coats of the Nikwax spray, it makes a world of difference and I don’t get wet even in a downpour so thanks for that. DIY is not my strong point so I got a waterproof lens cover to keep my bit of lens that sticks out dry. I would prefer your option of that modification but I’ll make a mess of it. I’ll try it with clothes line pegs though. See if I can do something temporary for just when I erect the hide. Thanks again

Yeah, I went back a few times to check for new signs and found none. And the other sett a bit further down is empty too, with sticks shoved in the holes. Farmers don’t want them around unfortunately!

This is so good and down to earth lesson on how to make a reflection pool, definitely inspired to make my own. I live on a modern estate so not a lot of wild birds really. I only have a small rear garden, but on the other side of my self-made ranch style fence at the bottom of my garden is an overgrown paddock that use to have a couple of horses which are no longer there so its overgrown with brambles and about 30ft into the paddock is a large hawthorn tree that attracts a few birds, mainly sparrows a few tits and occasionally goldfinches and a very rare bullfinch. hopefully with the knowledge of this video I can make my own and attract them to the reflection pool. I could possibly remove the top couple of slats from a panel and sit the pool on top so it would be about 4ft from the ground of which is decked. I have always been interested in photography but never birds until recently and never heard or seen a reflection pool, just ordered a bigger zoom lens as my existing 70-200 just hasn't got the reach to get in close. thank you.

I’ve so glad you enjoyed the video, and even more so that it has inspired you to have a go. With the paddocks behind your garden should give you a really nice bokeh background and really isolate your subjects. I would love it if you shared some images and tagged me in them so I could see what you achieve. I have daily visitors to mine now, and still enjoy it immensely. Thank you for taking the time to comment , it means a lot.

We moved into a tiny house 5 years ago, waiting for a bigger house to come up for sale where we wanted to live. It was as you described yours. Putting sunflower hearts out, with a few fat balls we used to get Blackbird, Song Thrush, Redwing, Starling, House Sparrow, Hedge Sparrow, Robin, Wren, Siskin, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Bullfinch, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, Long Tailed Tit, Nuthatch, Reed Bunting, Goldcrest, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Magpie, Jackdaw, Collard Dove, Wood Pigeon, Sparrowhawk. I’ve probably missed some out, but you get the picture, a small garden isn’t an issue, ours was 6m x 4m ( 21ft x 14ft ).

Hello Haydn!! Been a long time. Hope your doing well. I find it really hard to go out without a plan in my mind. For example in the mornings, if I want to drag myself out of bed, I have to have a plan in mind if where I want to go. As for the evenings I can just wing it. Great video, and topic! ☺️

I'm not really a planner but I am kind of controlly 😊 yet I realize with the control I think I have I know I have no control. I only can prepare for what I think I can control. With that all said... I grab my camera and lens set it beside me and go about my day. Hoping I have time to stop and take some shots. Knowing every time I go out something new may show itself. You have to agree some of our best shot are unexpected an unplanned for. I enjoy the surprise more than the journey.
