Custom STRATOCASTER Build | With Bigsby
This is the second addition to my homemade guitar collection. It features the iconic design of the Stratocaster, but has a few extras such as a Bigsby vibrato and cream binding on the front. The body is Poplar, and the Neck is Mahogany topped with a Rosewood fretboard.
The pickups are Fender Tex-Mex Stratocaster pickups in the traditional SSS configuration. Other features include a bridge from a Fender Mustang, and vintage Gotoh tuners on the headstock.
Many aspects this build were new to me such as the painted body and headstock, the binding on the front, and of course the beautiful monstrosity that is the Bigsby B50! I hope this build shows what is possible for anyone willing to put in the effort to build their own guitar. Enjoy!

Walnut TELECASTER Build
Переглядів 1,2 млн2 роки тому
This is my first ever electric guitar build. The guitar was built from scratch using European Walnut for the body, Australian Blackwood for the neck and Red Box Wood for the fretboard. The pickups are Fender Tex Mex Telecaster pickups, the bridge is a Wilkinson compensated three saddle bridge and the tuners are Gotoh vintage tuners. I went into this project without knowing the ins and outs of g...

    Back in the 70's I and a couple friends built 5 or 6 solid body electric guitars using Black Walnut. They look beautiful, BUT they were dead heavy, and their tonal quality really kinds sucked. That was the end of using Black Walnut for guitar building for me. I also built a Tele style guitar using Butternut wood (poor man's walnut). Again it looked beautiful, was much lighter weight, but the tonal character was still not good. We also made a few guitars using Oak and Red Oak... YUK! Beautiful to look at, heavy, and poor tone. FWIW

    I'm thinking about building a chambered one. I build mandolins and a few acoustics. Walnut makes a great sounding acoustic.

    Glueing the 2 halves together to make a complete body - will that hold up? Not a woodworker myself, just wondering.

    • @greensguitars
      @greensguitars Місяць тому

      The body is made from two pieces intentionally. The idea is that the finished body is more resistant to warping over time.

    Do you put tru oil directly on the sanded guitar? Isn't sealant put on it beforehand? Sorry I'm new to this

    • @greensguitars
      @greensguitars 2 місяці тому

      The tru-oil is the “sealant” in this situation and yes it’s applied directly to the sanded wood.

    Start hammering the frets from the middle and work your way to the edges. Usually secures the fret so other end doesn't pop up when you hammer the other end.

    As one builder to another, phenomenal craftsmanship. Great color and stain choices. I'm currently looking at putting a Bigsby on my latest Mod Build The Kramer Farrington convert let's call it The Teleington elec/accou with a Bigsby, purple/green/orange colorshift front and headstock, black sides and back. Keep up the great work while encouraging others to build also.
