Giant Schnauzer vs 3 rats in 1 week
It seems we never ever get rid of all the rats. Got 3 last week and had Tux take care of them.

Giant Schnauzer Ratting Attempt 8 | Not Great

Tux was a little bit under the weather. He accidentally ingested come candy he found and it made him pretty sick. Unfortunately we trapped another rat and had to get him to dispatch it. If you watch you will see he is not as aggressive as he usually is, but he did still kill the rat without much suffering. Hopefully the next one will be much quicker and with a lot more drive behind it.
Giant Schnauzer Ratting Attempt 7 | Fastest Kill Yet

Tux has done a great job at mitigating the rat problem we have that we were not sure if we would trap another one. As most things go, when you least expect it, another one shows up. As you may know the Giant Schnauzer derived from the Standard Schnauzer. Killing rats, also known as "ratting" is part of what made the Schnauzer breed special. Giant Schnauzer Pup vs Rat pt 2 | First Kill
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
This is Tux's second time seeing a live rat. Being so young his prey drive is not fully developed and is just starting to engage. As you can see he still doesn't really know what to do with the rat other than to play with it. Sadly this does not result in a quick kill, but this is the way predators learn. Going forward I am hoping his ability to quickly dispatch rats will improve with practice.

Which kennel did you get your boy from? I’m considering several kennels at the moment but health and stable temperament with a protective instinct is tougher to assess. I can care less about show standard but more of a capable balance family dog that can protect.

@ thanks man! How big will you boy be? I spoke to a Bulgarian kennel as European bloodlines for protection work is key given the training development requirements being far stricter than in the states. Most European boys will be between 90-124 lbs. I’m looking for a bigger female at 85-90 lbs or a male between 105-115 lbs. I don’t much care for show bloodlines but looking more for working protective work. This dog will be a family companion but he need to have that drive to protect as some lines are bred more for pet quality only it show lines only which loses some of the original drive of the breed.

@ Tux weighs between 80-85 pounds which is a little heavier than my Doberman Kazi was. Kazi was taller at the shoulder. You may want to price check a working line Doberman while you're at it.

I lost my 8 year old American Bulldog to cancer last February. I still have an 11 year American Staffordshire Terrier. They were best friends. I’m considering getting another dog. On the short list are Doberman, Rottweiler and Giant schnauzer. We have all four seasons and it can get cold in the winter. My American Bulldog hated the cold. We have two cats and a grand baby. Any advice on which breed we should consider?

Mind if I ask what kennel you got your GS from? Our GSD is getting up there in years and I’d like to get a new pup while he is still energetic enough to help train. I love my GSD because of his protective, athletic and smart characteristics… same reasons I’d like a Doberman. However we also owned a boxer and the Washington State winters were tough on her.

Sorry for your loss, congrats on your recovery. We alternate GSDs and dobes. Had a dobe in Colorado. Cold is not a big problem, they acclimate. Snow does pack into their feet, GSDs have hair that prevents that. We looked at Bouvier and GS also. Are certainly open to eother, still. For me, the "hair thing" is real. Yuck. The bane of GSD ownership.

Congrats on your Giant pup! My hubby and myself have had all 3 schnauzers breeds ( mini, standard and giant) and I grew up with Dobes too. Due to a few back surgeries we had to downsize to standards, which are great, but my heart will always be with the Giants! Be patient with Tux, as I found that Giants are more rambunctious than dobe pups...it's like living with the devil for two years. Then after 2yrs they are awesome! David , We are considering a Giant Schnauzer. I have a few questions: the area you live in, how are the temperatures there? At this age did you already have to trim his hairs? I see many good qualities after comparing a lot of dogs on paper. But we live a not so average active lifestyle. I had 3 Bernese mountain dogs, a flat coated retriever, a beagle and a shitzu. All of them were happy to cuddle as long as we'd get the exercise in. They would lay on our feet requesting belly rubs and sit whilst sailing. The bernese would like to sit on our lap if they could.. Assuming enough daily exercise. How much of a coach potato /coddler is Toxido? Does he like the attention of pedding/attention? Thanks for your time. Any dog would like a garden like that.

@waltervanderboor I live just outside Savanah, GA, USA. It gets about 2 months of really cold weather per year i.e. temperatures regularly in the 40°F range. In the summer it gets really hot. Tux was getting groomed as a puppy before we got him. Right now, we get him groomed about every 4 weeks. Tux is very cuddly and affectionate with everyone in the family. When he gets shaggy he resembles a stuffed animal 😆.

    • @davidwindmueller6000
      @davidwindmueller6000 4 місяці тому

Not sure I can answer this accurately as both of my dogs spent/spend a lot of time in dirt, mud, pond water, and swimming pool. So they would be dirty in some form 80% of the time and would mostly just get hosed off. Generally speaking, Tux's shaggy hair retains smell longer than Kazi's short hair did. As far as grooming Tux, we get him groomed about once a month. In the summer he gets a shorter haircut and in the colder months we leave him shaggier around his legs and lower abdomen.

When the weather is hot and a CC has webbed feet,he swims in the pool ,loves to go on barn hunting races or chilling out on the sofa. A CC is a very active breed, not a couch potato, lol. He's been the best working breed for our family. We will always have guardian breed in our home. We've had in the past dobbie, blue heeler,American Bulldog, Caucasian Shepard, but our CC has been the easiest to train and socialize. Giant schnauzer a wise choice! I wish happy life with him! I hope you will train him, otherwise he could be a stubborn dog. :) Also Have a look some other breed like Hungarian Komondor or Hungarian Kuvasz.

Looks like a sweet boy. Hope you posted that naughty right ear. Melly had to be posted for almost a year before those ears would reliably stand. Enjoy your baby!!!!
