SPIDER-MAN/RED SONJA #1 (2007) REVIEW. A case of buyers remorse.
Written by MICHAEL AVON OEMING Penciled by MEL RUBI Cover by MICHAEL TURNER The wise-cracking Wall-Crawler collides with the She-Devil with a Sword! Longtime Marvel readers know that these two legends have met before -- but that was just the warm-up! They may be from two different eras, but Spider-Man and Red Sonja have both faced the maniacal mage known as Kulan Gath. Now the sadistic sorcerer makes a play for power that will once again bring these two famous heroes together -- but will it be as friends or foes? Writer Michael Avon Oeming (OMEGA FLIGHT, Red Sonja) and Mel Rubi (Red Sonja) - plus series cover artist Michael Turner (CIVIL WAR) - answer the eternal question: What's better in a fight, the proportional strength and speed of a spider, or cold, hard steel and a chain-mail bikini?

“I need something to do for my next paycheck.” “You need to finish your contract, that's what! Throw 'this' character and 'that' character together, and go do that. Just do it.” Well, yeah, this is bad. This is 2007 “Marvel” Incorporated, No-Longer-Comics...it's not 2007 DC. This is a combo I never exactly wished for. I don't think i recognize either the writer's or the interior artist's names. Kulan Gath is, uh, kool but was as wasted for this as the Michael Turner cover was. Aw man, this isn't a one-shot. Alright, I'll be here to coast through the next one. Yeah - no rush, Marinus! Thanks for looking to the sword-swinging redhead in the metal bikini; the thought does count, even if a little. Okay, anyway, have a great rest of your day heading towards the weekend (in August, already!).

This general and scientist really, really deserve their long retributions, even justice, for all they've done to so many people. May the general's constipation flare up like a Pompei apocalypse before he finally gets his. What an impromptu way to visit Santa Prisca, and with nothing at all to do with the man who would be Bane. Quite the story route, that the characters would end up based in and then confronting each other, there in the Caribbean/Latin American country. The oceanic scenery off-shore of the island nation, while Batman's rescuing Alfred, looks great too. The word “yen” does have that secondary meaning other than Japanese currency attributed to it. I've long-since heard the word used in that connotation although it's also been a long time since I last heard that. Woops, this review cut you off suddenly at the end. Well, I think I know how you were gonna finish saying what you had been saying. This is a a great series, and one of its greatest stories. Six months' absence from Gotham notwithstanding. Thank you for reviewing this AND enjoying it, Marinus! Looking forward to the final story issue and your next video. Have a great day.

  • @mikefanofGDNgenuinedarksyde703

Don't call them writers. They were never recruited for such a role. Deconstruction, subversion and most importantly revisionism are the explicit objectives. Agendas from on high are now out in the open! Because the egos running the plans are confident in their impending completion - reality be damned. Marvel? No. Remember, it's dead. These are Disney hacks, in 75% of the entertainment industry, to push the changing of human behaviour instead of entertaining. This series has lost several points of good regard with me because of this societal engineering outright inserted into established entertainment like an invasive object unwanted into a bodily orifice. The title as a whole, overall, does not deserve overall praise. As a Marvel Comics character and Incredible Hulk series, it's only half-worthy for the positive aspects wee've pointed out previously. I prefer the look of what I've seen of Joe Bennett's indy work, to his “Marvel”-brand work. That's all, folks. Thanks, Marinus!

  • @mikefanofGDNgenuinedarksyde703

A swing-and-a-miss, from Chuck Dixon!? I'd wondered during your review of book one whether he was a good fit as writer for any Green Lantern. As great as he is, he doesn't suit every DC character, and I'm sure he'd agree. Yeah, aliens as Earth animals, don'tcha know Bucky O'Hare and its entire Aniverse, Marinus!? "New Corps", my ass. This artist deserved a better story and Dixon deserved a vacation and/or another series more befitting him. One with guns, and a mystery premise. The "unexpected new villain that's as powerful as they are" as book one advertised, that the Lanterns face is a computer brain of a planet. Uh huh. It's either that or the random new rogue Lantern. Mongol, he is not. Yeah, dumb, too bad. Eh well, writer assigned in error, duly noted. Movin' right along, then! Thanks for the showcase and long-time revisit for yourself, Marinus! By the Lantern's light, have a sunny day.

Hmmm i wanted totackle that part after Vol.2. It didn't feel like Chuck's work after all and i love that guy. Yeah this was a big miss for him. Damn. Ow man I forgot about Bucky o Hare. The Green rabbit, right? I also now thinking now about She-Hulk. Alot of furries in her books too (>.<). TRUTH. This fell apart hard and art is so good man. The villain's graddeur is classic, but Kyle beat him without breaking a sweat. What a wimp!. The Misfits, the Outsiders, the Strangers...now youthful new maverick Lantern of Earth Kyle Rayner gets HIS turn at heading up a whacky, mismatched but hip group of young, stigmatized and/or troubled delinquents. Oh-ho-ho whoa, golly goofy gee, get ready for a bombastic ride! We'll see. With no adult, mentor Lanterns around; Hal Jordan being pretty freakin' out of commission... ...And, John Stewart - hey, what was John Stewart doing by this time? The outer space, interstellar scenery looks great but so do the earlier panels of the ground war combat on the planet this comic book artist kid INTERFERES with. The facial expressions still look good but sometimes not as refined as the artist's technical work on 'things'; vehicles, architecture, environment. If the space gnome who goes Commando on the shapeshifter-tongue-woman hadn't coincidentally shown up exactly in time, Kyle the rookie would be dead! Maybe this will be more like The Orville than like Star Trek: TOS. A Russian Outer Space woman!? Maybe it will actually be more like the Enterprise crew after all, if she becomes “the Chevok”. Since Kyle's method of recruitment at least half the time is to insert himself hastily into a randomly-encountered situation as a complete stranger, it's no wonder that his choices and results of recruits are poor-or-worse. Anyways, this is fun enough Green Lantern storytelling, looking like the same dynamic universe as Lobo shows up in, since it should. We'll see tomorrow then, how Kyle continues to mess up and whether or not his recruits become any worthier of being actual Green Lanterns. Thanks, Marinus, and enjoy your day!

Kyle should waer a red shirt. Or better yet. All of them shoudl waer that shirt. He is really acting like a rookie :/. I wish Lobo came along. It would be fun for them to tussle with the Main Man. Ow well. The next one is ehhh....welll. check it out hahahaha. Have agrea tday, Mike!!!

  • @mikefanofGDNgenuinedarksyde703

Interesting premise. The story begins to set up like a Japanese power fantasy comic. The antagonist is revealed to be possessed of superhuman aspects, then the protagonist is subject to the same kind of revelation/development, and then the secondary character of Ren the young girl is. Or, she is first, at least alluded to, if you skipped past that but that order doesn't matter. What typically uplifting Japanese supernatural. No god of life or light or monks in sight. I don't think I'd want to read this, as a story that draws out, delays and complicates another blatantly excessive anatagonist finally getting outright eliminated. I've already seen and read more than enough of that apparent Japanese trademark of depressing, torturous misery. Forbidden fruit, indeed. You find out, Marinus, and let us know just how much of an ongoing downer - but with super powers! - this inspiring manga about a tree of life (unhappy life) is. 'Til later, have a good day and a good week.

Looking at a few of your reviews, I am not sure if it's 100% the writer's fault (could be). I think it's more like "We need you to write these comics asap" "How long do I have?" "Well, by this evening, will do" "......I can try" The dialogue looks rushed and uses modern terms simply because they're quicker to churn out; no real thought is needed. It might be a bad writer, or the payment for it went hand in hand with time for the project. It's too hard to tell these days because artists and writers take on too much for the sake of work/money, and their talent gets spread too thin, and my god, it shows. Too many studios hire people who can work fast/hit a deadline vs are they any good?

  • @mikefanofGDNgenuinedarksyde703

I'll give this another shot, since the Godfathers of Singularity ghosted this with my first try. Another hilarious issue seguing into another plot line that's distinct from the others in the series. Several lines of dialogue again had me laughing out loud. It wasn't expressly shown either way, yet I interpret that it's implied - when officer Syn arrives at the Godz bar due to being called by the other cops already inside, there's the guy passed out beside the entrance and green Smurf-like creatures are robbing him. It doesn't seem that the cops stopped them! Hah! The writing, the imagination and the setting of scenes continue to set this series, and Alan Moore's skills, apart. Notice how haggard Sun Woman's face looks; as though, dried out from too much UV ray effect. Smax was so confrontational and provoking. Greasemonkey apparently only speaks in ape or orangutan speech, “ooh-ooh”. With that, this issue is the final one included in the collected TPB Book One that I own. It seems like a fitting point in the overall, widest story following this precinct, to break for Book Two (which of course, I have as well), particularly with this issue's final page. With the final panel's reveal, I begin speculating again...although Jackie Phantom's rear had been out in the open with no furniture nearby as she stood at the diner's counter when she was “Goosed”, is the implication now that the Ghostly Goose is a furniture-shape shifter? Hmm, I'm as further intrigued as ever with Top 10. This series earns its title. Thanks again very much for introducing this fun, humourous and intelligent series to me as we both enjoy it, Marinus. Have a great last of your weekend!

  • @mikefanofGDNgenuinedarksyde703

Man, each of these reviews that you release urge me/remind me to begin reading this series, for myself. My consistent dilemma, is having accumulated too much to choose from to first-time read. I know that's a choir boy preaching to the Pope of such a “problem”, first-time read or not. Especially with this issue being the conclusion to this big six-parter, involving 'these' characters from 'this' previous event, of all things. Hahahaha, that DOES look like a very “Jack Kirby expression”, good call. Gog, being badass by turning his staff on himself (whatever it does and its backstory is). Lightning's design looks great. As all of the others do, and it fits in. Man, this art looks very good. Heh, it must be Batman's and Superman's presences that kept causing you to reflexively want to call the Society, the League, instead. “I come in peace...”, “And you go in pieces!”, yes this has still got me riveted. But now with Ma-Gog having been consumed by Gog - or vice versa I dunno yet until I read this - as the final story episode, a new arc begins? I'll be here to find out. Have a fine summer day otherwise, Darksyde, and see you at your next!

I JSLA/JLA...it's almost too simialir. So many cgreat characters. He is the villain. He must be. Speaking in tonges. There is one or maybe 2 issues coming after this to round this all up. thank you, Mike. You have a great day too!!

  • @mikefanofGDNgenuinedarksyde703

Good: The immortal Hulk. Bad: All of the other characters - a man-child of soy hiding behind a “millenial” beard and Carl Manvers hiding behind a Brie Larson wig. An Alpha Flight space station. The colorist's coloring, which looks both digital and lazy. Walter Langkowski's bad Halloween costume. Gamma Flight. Despite what I just listed, the Hulk's cunning, reactions, escape, re-assembly (“Theee Ah-venge-errrrs!”, quoting the arcade game), transformation, final page and Alex Ross cover do all sustain this issue as being ultimately worthwhile of what the end of the previous issue promised/alluded to. As a Hulk issue, for a Hulk series. Yes, dump the excess baggage, of course, as you say. Meantime, bring on the next one! So, still, thanks Marinus and have a great rest of your week's end.

Well, the fact that those 'statues' on approach to the Masters' castle are each completely red-coloured, like some kind of wax or toy plastic (looking like Kinnukiman/M.U.S.C.L.E. figures) seems to make it obvious that the Crusader's instinct about them is right-on. Haha, that IS a nonsensical place on the bridge/road into the castle where the plastic-statues attack, so obviously illogical that it's funny. “Latin magic”, that's interesting, being a Catholic crusader. “They were not evil”? Oh, really? An invasion of Europe, “barbarians at the gates” of Vienna and a 100-plus years' occupation of Spain, forever changing that culture's natural ethnicity? Crusades had been necessary and are intentionally misconstrued in our modern 'paradise'. They were primarily medieval, 1100 to the late end of the 1400s, although others are recorded as happening up to the earliest years of the 1700s. Pilgrim's transported to the 1800s. The shape of Grimbels' face and his facial expressions are still...discomforting, unsettling. Wonky. If Pilgrim can escape that limbo, since he was connected to the livelihood of the three evil Masters, then I wonder if they can also resurrect or reincorporate? Maybe there's more to their demise since they all 'fell' into the large pool of mystified portal-blood that was the Crusader's own blood. This world has come to interest me in a charming way as well, particularly with such open-ended 'closings' for multiple characters. There should be a continuing, second volume. Why not just make it ongoing!? As with so many of these too-many miniseries. This reminds me of both the “Super Mario Adventures” in Nintendo Power magazine and “GamePro” in GamePro magazine multi-page comics series published for some time in each monthly issue of those two video game magazines. I'm glad that it more or less panned out well enough in the end, despite its artistic flaws. Thanks for carrying through with it all, Marinus! Have a great day, make no deals with any self-described “Masters”.

This Titan series seems to obviously intend to follow in the footsteps of the original Marvel Comics series. Although I think it's meant to and does reflect the actual atmosphere of Robert Howard's prose stories, more than that early '70s-'80s comics era. The coloring, however, is a schizophrenic kaleidoscope that's distracting in the colorist's desire to either be a classical oil painter or simply possesses an uncontrolled mind. While at the same time as the swirling spectrum of coloring is being laid down, all of them separately and together have a subdued sense of brightness. Maybe the cascading combinations of tones and hues is what's doing that. On some pages, such as during the initial infiltration of that concealed snakemen ritual revealing the green pool of liquid-something, the coloring can be more “balanced”, “even”, “steady”. Then, following that, there's the two-page spread of battle that you go over. “Unspeakable tongues” and “unspeakable words” are somewhat contradictory phrases. Regardless - very reminiscent of the Thomas/Buscema Marvel legacy. Crom looks down on you with approval, Marinus. Let us see how Conan's true steel empowers him to arise and slay this dire situation, next issue. Meantime, have a testosterone-uplifiting weekend!

Ah, just the trade dress of this cover, compared with issue #1's cover trade dress, makes the two issues look like they're from different Legion series/volumes. The look of issue #1's cover as a whole makes it look newer than this one; more recently published. Whack. Yeah, I didn't expect any blatant cleavage, along with a stockings/thigh-high boots look for a female character. Much less, to 'splash' the first page with. Tightly packed? Don't fall out! Oh, and on page two: also with a thong back side. Yeah, the reconfigurations of the Legion members' costumes also made issue #1 seem like a different, more recent volume than this issue. I don't know the characters but I, too, prefer Wildfire's original costume to this remix. “Umbra” is dumb...at least “Penumbra” would've made more sense, even if that's also an inferior name to Shadow Lass. Match the naming trend of the rest of the Legion members! Sure, the primary villain in here seems otherwise decently-developed but his name is as poor as all of the other changed names are lame-to-bad sounding. It's the plot that's still undercooked and to blame. Yet perhaps there is story salvage to be had, with the NEXT issue. I'm willing to find out. Regardless, thank you for another review and for more of the Legion, Marinus! Have a great day and a great weekend.

Love this series, I haven't collected Conan floppies since the late 80's .. Its exceed all my expectations. I feel like the overwhelming success of Heroic Signatures shepherding of the IP really is revealing a thirsty larger audience that wants sexy, but not sexist, violent but not misogynistic, mature heroic stories. It's this issue's pacing that is bland. It seems to plod along, whether it's Arwyn talking to characters in the beginning or her and Krieg fighting orcs, afterwards. The spacious panels seem like they need to have more happening in them or conveying more occuring from panel to panel than what actually does happen. Otherwise, more panels per page, maybe, I think. Yeah, and the main character's fighting...it comes across as giving off whiffs of a Mary...a girl named Sue, Mary Sue that is. Particularly after only appearing out of nowhere at the very end of issue #0 and nothing more about Arwyn apparently being developed. Dun-duh-duh-dun, “I'm the best!”...haha, sure, so she kills her way out of town and leaves the entire city (guessing it's inhabited - can't tell!) to be abandoned to burn to ashes. Including those sweet people she just met before the orcs! Hah! WOW, the guy on the last page looks the most traced of all. The fairest in all the land, the Greg Land, with a...sickle? Sigul?...branded into his scalp. Pinhead would invite him out to lunch. If this doesn't pick up, maybe both of us should consider The First, instead. I have some/all TPBs of that series. I had only skipped through Mystic's story, as well. I got that for Lopresti's art. And Crossgen put out a short pirate series, El Cazador, by Chuck Dixon that is pretty good. Okay, enough talk, it's time for caffeine and comics reading on my end, going into a switched-up day off. Physiotherapists' orders: stop working so hard. And so here the 21st century rears its ugly, ugly head. Nobody likes the mannequin version of Carl, with an Alex Ross man's head on the cover. There it goes, so soon, bad writing art and design - obviously in the Avengers' members. So-called. Some Mexican guy on fire riding a bike, Thor out of commission immediately...look, Robert Downey Jr. instead of Tony Stark. This is losin' me, panel by panel, Mariunus! Then there's another man-thing instead of woman. Green-coloured. And, those are only pectoral muscles, obviously. This art doesn't look THAT good. It's looking literally sketchier outside of close-ups, in group shots. What is wrong with Captain America's face? I can guess, what was intended. Okay, so he's been dismembered now. It is really too bad that the final page was led up to by such an otherwise disservice of the rest of this issue. I was underwhelmed. Hulk beating everybody up to the point of desperate measures taken was...the only outcome, since he's the Hulk! Two good opening issues followed by two mediocre-to-poor issues (one of which, wasn't even worth reviewing). This had better pull up its Hulk pants quickly and enduringly with the next one! Hulk smash good. The summer heat's going back up to at least 30 degrees and more over here again for the next week, so you have a comfortable and cooler mid-week, Marinus. Thanks for reviewing this series, too.

Well, what can i say? it's bad!! Joe Bennet is a good artist, butr he has trouble with human faces. if you look up his older work (nova etc) It looks waayyyy better. Remember the Nova book that i have reviewed against the Sphinx? That is his art . Hulk beating the Avngers was the fun part. I mean, why not swap T'Challa wtih Carol? She is way strronger then him. Yeah, this issue, I'm sure this series and actually the Alien IP's treatment in comics overall, I think - there is ample use of the color “washes” and broad swathes of the same colour or at least base colour and corresponding hues/tones - across figures, faces, objects, things in a panel because that's the lighting dousing everything that's not in shadow. Remember in “Aliens”, when the survivors have barricaded themsevles in the section of the colony with the med lab, after the xenomorphs “cut the power” as they finally break through, the red-coloured back-up emergency lights that turn on and colour everything red. As but one of many examples. Such comic colouring is good for narrative contrasts and in-universe atmosphere. That was an interesting fight not seen before, involving a Predator completely unequipped of armament, against many human opponents who stand and fight like soldiers. “Good punch”, indeed! Hey, yes, maybe those humans willing to battle were 'enhanced', genetically engineered, maybe as more mercenaries. The security chief is looking well, much improved for having been near-death and a body covered with burns (from the collar down only, of course). “When men and women just can do that” - you, me, anybody CAN do that, Marinus! Completely capable, nothing has physcially, capably changed, so...grow a spine weaklings, and just LIVE, and do THAT continually. All I know of Grendel is that the character's supposedly an assassin, and that there appears to be multiple different characters who've inherited that title. Anyway, this was more “Aliens” fun than “Predator” fun, which is no criticism. How did the Aliens get aboard that station? Maybe we'll find out next issue. Thanks for continuing along, only halfway through the story! Have a great, uninfested day Marinus and I'll see you at your next one.

A cover in the same league as a Kelley Jones equivalent image! Oh man, that first page image, and that title “The Temptation of” - are such appreciated throwbacks to Wrath of the Spectre. Especially Adams' and Aparo's verions. I love this already. The Day of Wrath...so, the Spectre is destined to become a world-destroying necromancer? Bummer! Whoa, transferring into Kali in his very ancient past; I didn't see that coming. Ah, you turned back to the page that I too liked the layout and composition of maybe the most of all in this issue, with the dead crawling out of their cemetery graves at the bottom of that page, Spectre and his 'energy' acting as the framing of 'panels' for the page. Great! I like the use of and contrasts of the colours, too. I certainly learned much about the Spectre's origins and backstory I'd never gotten hints from, elsewhere. Ostrander demonstrates an appealing and knowledgeable portrayal of Spectre's character. I think he suits this more than Hawkman. Very fine review of a very fine comic issue, Marinus, thanks! Ugh, I've immediately disliked when creators/publishers use comparisons of two well-known, previously released works with which to encapsulate what's supposed to be a book “description” - just as here, in the final sentence. It's lazy, unimaginative, self-congratulatory and presuming a level of respect that's as-of-yet unearned before even opening the cover. Forgetting the Skybound connection to the New Image brand, I could tell already that this is by New Image. Must be the art style which has become a house style, and inferior to the house style of true Image Comics in its original days. The...Panini bread?...enemies who attacked the main character's family or tribe or town - they TOOK her hand? As in, cut it off and carried it away in a purse? What the hell? The family members cover up their birthmark/scars in parting? I think that those indicate different 'tribes', by the way, and not necessarily different races. They all look the same. What's with the cartoony-as-hell prow (front) of that airship or spaceship, flying vehicle that this girl's shown leaving, on the same page? Yeah, change up the lettering already, from being the same across supposedly-different series. What planet is this set upon? When? What's the time period? This didn't engage me. Dropped into the midst of this story but without enough answers to naturally-occurring questions. Aesthetically, plot-wise and certainly character-wise this doesn't present anything I haven't seen before, across multiple storytelling mediums. A solid “MEH” on this, so far. Gonna go read Magnus, instead! But thanks anyway, Marinus; this is only the beginning. Have a great week!

Hah, the Bi-Beast. Yes, I know of him. His upper face's mouth's lower lip forms the brow over the ey sockets of his lower face, hahah. And you called Doc Strange, Doc Fate, at first. No helmet! Namor has the highest-arching and pointiest eyebrows of any Marvel superhero, and by far more than even any other Atlantean or Lemurian I've seen, including Llyra. What's up with that? Although, Larsen gave Doctor Strange some pretty Mandarin-like Spock brows in this issue, too. Starting on the page in which he says “Why do I even bother?” and then Namor speaks about Attuma behind Strange's shoulder, while Hulk's still beating on Bi-Beast. Well, everything with Red Raven and his other Ravens was confusing. Red Raven and his...family of...bird-humans/avian people/Hawkman rip-offs, are...artificial? But, died, so not mechanical but organic, manmade human beings? Like Perfect 10? And whatever Diablo would go to the alchemical effort of ressurrecting all of them for. Is that who created this Sky Island? How does it hover? Is it mechanical, magical, technological or mystical? Hulk had funny dialogue in here. Part of the entertainment was due to your delivery of his lines. “We're a team, after all” Nighthawk said and yet, don't these members resent being forced togather with heroes they don't necessarily want to partner with? This was fine for the banter by Hulk-not-Banner. Hah, I'm funny and now I'm also going. Thanks for another video on this odd volume to this oddball team, Marinus and have a great tomorrow.

Heh, I knew why Ollie had put ear plugs in, while Dinah had been getting ready for him...sharing the same bed as Black Canary, wee-ow. Mr. Mind the worm. Your mind is fine, in correctly remembering his name. A lot goes on in this issue, drawing together all of the situations going on with all of these characters. On this cover, is that Sable's dad in the background? The enormous, hovering crimson head...oh yeah, and with those Satanic horns. A man of color...but he doesn't look like a shifting rainbow. Maybe he's a man of culture instead. Man, that's such a dumb term. Hah. BLACK. Leviathan, “the business man”...looking like a voodoo priest on page one. That's some business. Not that I anticipated this series to “lowball”, but it shows better-than-expected art on display. Steve Butler's name I've only come across once before, I think, and I don't recognize the name of the inker he's teamed-up with, which could make more of a difference. This had a fair-enough routing back-and-forth and outcome, since the Punisher is the one of these two characters who has to come out on top. A fine face-off, and random peek into what Silver Sable's own series is like. Cover the Wild Pack and a drug addiction if you really want to, and keep going with this title if you like it. Woo woo, what a Diana cover! Oh, yeah, she's...comatose-catatonic...uh, nevermind! Ah, I do appreciate that wide, detailed cityscape image of enchanted New York shown in the bottom panel of the first page. On a note related to the same subject - Bancroft's The Lucent sequel is with some printers and going to be on it's way soon, don't ya know. I do believe that this Flash IS Wally, as I do think that at this time, before Johns' and Van Sciver's Flash Rebirth, Barry was still...gone. I'll not elaborate on more than that, in the case that somebody else who hasn't yet read about that story might be reading this. What is with Aquaman's wonky metallic get-up over his torso and right arm, though? This is the first time I've ever seen that costume. Together with his crown, that somehow looks...goofy, or 'off', at least - not like Arthur. He looks like a character from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. That's one grimdark-looking witch trying to eat Plastic Man and J'onn...worthy of both Jim Henson and Meg Mucklebones (you'll just have to look up the identity of that name). Fun fairytale redesigns once inside of the magical book. Nice teeth on the final page; combined with those bug's wings, those are monsters from Id's Doom! I think this is a fun, diversionary detour into the magical realm and side of DC supers, and the Queen of Fables is a powerful, willful and malevolent woman. Good stuff, otherwise don't let fairy tales get to you. Have a good night and a good day, Marinus, and thanks for this video.

lol yeah. Sleeping beauty!! All overgrown. I like it too. Very cool. I still havenb't backed it tough :(. You could be right. he and kyle also have a back and forth talk that sounds like younger people. Yeaaaa don't like his costume at all. The headband doesn't fit well on the character. Maybe when he sits on the throne, but that's it. "By the poweerrrrrr of Atlantis". xD. I looked it up and saw the foto and i thought: Awesome. Legend with the best Devil incarnation on screen ever made.Still to this day that version of the Devil is iconic. Sharp!! They belong in Doom indeed. nasty buggers!! They could rip your flesh apart easily. yeah she is acoo looking villain. Can't wait to dig into the last book to see how it unfolds. I won't Mike. I have a metal bat under my bed😅. You're welcome as always. have a great one!!

I'll tell you what I think! Of this, I mean! I think this is a suitably epic multi-parter, and pretty neat that the Society is being included in the Kingdom Come doom; in a believable way. I think this Society has grown to such a proportion as to really...justify the team as a “society” which implies “big”. I think that...Amazing Man's costume looks ridiculous, stands out glaringly against all the other members', actually made me laugh when they were all around the table and at first I could only think of him as Africa Man or Affirmative Action Man. I also wonder what Gog wants. Now I go, because I'm done commenting. It's Justice days on your channel! Apparently, so thanks for more from this underappreciated family/huge household society, of a team. Thanks for BOOM-ing this in to my brain, Marinus. While awaiting a comic book beating, be well and have a great day!

It really blends over nice. With the coming of magog and the stry continious in Kingdom Come. Well done. Way different then Avengers. JSA feels a like a real family with family values. I like it alot. Lol yeah. Like an costume from a 90's rap video clip xD. Africa Man haha Well we have Dap Brittain and MAerica, so why not? 🤣. I let you know soon, my friend. Nice pun lol You too, Mike. have agreat day!

Nice art. I only own and have read a segment of this JLA series - Grant Morrison's run. Which may seem ironic, alongside my recent low regard of specific Grant Morrison writing recently for “New X-Men” and in comparison with Alan Moore's work, but I remember an entertaining, unexpected, fast-paced set of storylines. Are Martian Manhunter's superhuman abilities affected negatively by magic, different from how Kal-El's powers are? “High tech devices”? Oh, Kyle, this is where you need the help of Mister, that is to say, Fair Play Guy. He's just Terrific. Haha, Plastic Man's facial expression in the bottom-right panel where he shouts “J'onn - no!” is classic Plastic Face. This is a fun fairytale jaunt. Particularly including the still-mysterious, old god-like Queen of Fables. I'm subscribed for the next issue if not for Mark Waid. Thanks, Marinus, have a good day free of pixies.

I believe i have the compleste set of this volume. I can show a lot of books if you want, Mike. I don't think so, but maybe it distorts everyones powers and senses. I'm doing #48 today, so maybe we find out. 😁😅I like Fair Play Guy. Terrific (Badum-tsss). Plastic man is annoying and good in JLA. he has some cool moments. Nice!!! I will sleep tight and let the bed bugs bite. Whooooo!!🤩

Ooohhh...Captain Modernity/Flat Ass/Not-Made-For-You...drawn with heavy outline that glares more than it melds with the rest of the art. Oh, look, another American obnoxious character being interposed upon another supposedly-Canadian entire team of heroes (like that crap Omega Flight replacement miniseries you reviewed) - in SPACE!? That's a note against this writer's choices. ...Not to go unsaid: whatthehell, a space station for the Canucks; argh. Also, that is NOT Carol Danvers. Interesting villain, and truly villainous - a possessed Sasquatch. As for the revelation of who is riding the big orange furry Bigfoot, that was likewise unexpected. Partly since I'd only know scant details, even more genralized than your summary, about Bruce's dad's personal history. Yeeouch, blinded Hulk...I'd initially wondered if more mutilation was gonna take place there, to reinforce this series' 'horror' genre aspects. I'd expect that Banner Senior was absorbed into Hulk; that was my first thought when that transfer was shown happening from Sasquatch to Hulk. Where else would Banner Senior have gone, anyway? And anyway, this continues to hold my interest. I don't want that chick to get Gamma-transformed so as to contribute to too many Hulks. Sasquatch is a fine pick for not-familiar, not-radioactive opponent. We'll/I'll wait to see what's next, in curiosity. Thanks, Marinus, have a not-heatwave pleasant summer day!

With the cancelculture haircut lol. Exactly. Get lost cap. nobody!! Hahaha just like JLA, but then for Canadians. Enjoy the fiction, Mike xDD. nope It's Carl Manvers!!! There was a big story line. Remember the old Hulk issue that i have reviewed when Hulk was on the Crossroads. He is meeting 3 creatures that are very important later on. I show you that a bit later. Yep way more. Mutilation, dismembering and body horror this series has it all!! Good questions, Mike. I want to know too. Lets wait and see!! Sasquatch is strong and ilike they did him more justice then in Omega Flight. Yes. Hava great day and see you on the next one 😆

What the hell, this series was a complete accident, not originally intended to be greenlit and published, and then the corporate office hacks just couldn't be bothered to retool a “Hulk”-branded series, right??? Even if this possessed too much substance for Disney's-Marvel. Because, I'm into this thus far, with what you've shown in here and what you've spoken about other aspects to this title. This SEEMS to treat the characters of Sasquatch and of course Bruce Banner/the Hulk (as-yet unseen, unheard, but still) with the in-character care and attention that they deserve. In this century? By whoever's abusing the Marvel brand? Is this a dream, when will it end? To quote Maiden. Recall that recently-posted/re-posted clip, of Jim Shooter at a convention table, 'tellin' it like it is' about the modern, ongoing, destructive intent. I'd express holding back, because any quality could come crashing down the very next issue - to be expected - but I know that this series has a good reputation. I'll truly believe it, when I do see it with my own lying eyes, issue by reviewed issue as you choose...but I'm giving Bennett and company some benefit of the doubt, here. Thanks for tearing into this and digging up the immortal, grumpy green giant, Marinus! Have a great start to your week!

I was a mayor hit. The great art and horror aspect was perfect for this series. I was very cautious because 'Modern Marvel" and i'm sure this just a fluke, because the next installment of the Hulk has not that much of a buzz. Crazy right? There are some very cool suprises coming ( i just reviewed #5, coming tomorrow). Ow man. Even Jim Shooter hates modern writing. That is a big deal. Jim Shooter is a legend. I keep you posted on this series, Mike. If it's shit i call it out. Believe that😎!! Hulk smash in the next issue, my friend.🤓have a great day!!

Echssssssss. X is indominatable, X is unstoppable, X finds intolerable the white collar of Arcadia. This is his cityyy. Continuing immediately from your review of the previous issue, it's more fun, fun, fun. I love the mystery of missing details surrounding first that group of rampaging cyborgs stalking the streets, and now this “club of motorcycle enthusiasts” Chaos Riders. They're kinda like the demonic Black Skulls biker gang in the 2018 movie “Mandy”, but forging more of their own badass identity. Like Horsemen of the Apocalypse or the four Dark Judges of Judge Dredd lore. Even though the bikers in Mandy looked more like those evil Judges, heh. Okay, that's enough, I'll go and wait for the next issue's review with anticipation. Thanks, Marinus, have a badass end to your week!

And the all looked beefed up 80's gang members from every 80's action movies, with a heavy dose of steroids. It's sooo cool🤩. Yessss!! "Do not be afraid. Dying iss good. Dying iss easy... I just stick my hand in and... SSQUEEZZE!" - Judge Death. Yes. i try to do quicker reviews 😁. See you soon, Mike!

Hmm, this makes me want to read The Shadow Kingdom, lying on the table in front of me, instead. After this is over, I'm gonna do that. Lesbos. What, what are you laughing at? It's a Greek island. Anyway, dammit. I should have expected that, being an all-woman cast, and being done on Vertigo too. I used to be diplomatic about it but now I am so sick and tired of that intentional, artificial subversiveness after such forceful B.S. for so long. This follows a formula, a repetition, a familiar path that's been tread and tried before. Maybe bogged down, during “slowed down exposition time”, with a Randy Zimmerman level of overabundant masses of text explanations (yeah, another hot night has passed since I started this comment, and since I began reading Russ Leach's Kull graphic novel). This art style's alright I guess, upon second regard it seems to suit a fantasy world and setting, but I think I'd rather look at a Dark Horse title if not a cleaner, tighter Vertigo series. The anachronistic dialogue, as ever by modern dummies in the form of personal, ad hominem insults, sucks yet again. “Reconnoiter” is one full term - also, “reconnaissance” - for the military shortform term of “recon” which means to scout and surveil for intelligence. Yeah, see where this is going...how soon it deflates itself. On to that Robert E. Howard material, now. Thanks nonetheless for looking at another Vertigo book, Marinus, and have yourself an excellent weekend!

I'm halfway the Shadow Kingdom. Gonna finish tomorrow i think. Hahaha I know it's an island, but that was not what i'm rreferring too lol. When it was not forced your throat every week by Marvel and DC, it was somewhat fine. Now, my taste is soured. Mm i have to be neutral..I'll try! Female Lobo's without the charm and edgy humor. Kull the conquerorrrrrrr!!! He is acool character. Yeah true. I hope it gets better, nbut i think not. scout and surveil for intelligence"huh? makes sense. Cool word also. I like it.yep i keep u posted Mike. have fun with the book and have a great day as well!!
