Delivering Real Value for Patients | Can Silicon Valley Solve Healthcare?
Переглядів 978 місяців тому
How does a full-time Orthopedic surgeon, 2 time co-founder and value-based healthcare guru find any free time to spend on a podcast talking about the things he loves? Well, that is what makes Steve Schutzer so special. Fifteen years ago, he had an idea to revolutionize the way joint replacement surgery was performed and reimbursed. So he built the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute from th...
How the Lack of Technology Affects Patient Care

Healthcare is infamous for its lack of technology and unintuitive data collection. During Redgee's hospital stay, he noticed how everything was manually documented with pen and paper. The health system is begging for simple and innovative solutions to tackle this absence of technology. This clip was taken from our original video "Patient Shares a Real Life Hospital Experience | Patient Stories"...

The American Healthcare System is complicated and it sucks to be a patient. No one aspires to the role. It always occurs at inopportune times. It can be frightening. It can be expensive. It is definitely foreign and unfamiliar. I don't think we do enough to demystify illness or the process of being sick. This episode and future episodes starring real-life patients seeks to pull the curtain back...

"ChatGPT is everywhere!" It is portrayed as human-kind's next great technology or the demise of the human race. The truth is somewhere in between. As a physician, I was curious how well ChatGPT would do against a seasoned physician in supplying diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations on a variety of complex cardiac presentations. I enlisted Robert (Bob) Harrington MD, the former Chair and Pr...

Sad thing about your opinion is, now any food that isn't organic usually has a bunch of shit in it. Especially in America. Organic food is the way to go if you want less chemicals and preservatives in your food.

You should prompt up ChatGPT properly, for a new run, even because of the 4o model. For example: "Form a medical consultation team composed of [medical subdisciplines] for educational purposes. Demonstrate the methodology of differential diagnosis using the following case study. The objective is to narrow down the causes of the symptoms and resolve the case."

I'm on the other end of the spectrum as an exercise addict where I move too much and have to force myself to be sedentary to level out my cortisol. 1) Even now I get 20-25K steps of walking daily as a personal trainer, part time dog walker, and outdoor lover. It used to be even more steps. 😂 2) I also lift full body 3x per week and do formal cardio 2x per week with more intensity like jumping rope or running stairs. The one benefit to my lifestyle is that I maintain my weight and under 15% bodyfat eating 5,000 cals per day. There is a certain freedom in that. 💯 But it is really hard for me to be sedentary and that's why my sleep suffers.

If you understand the damage of Monsanto, glysophate, what pesticides have done to soil, and intern how this affects gut health and auto immune disorders, you would see that yes eating unprocessed foods is a great start, but organic farming and buying organic is essential to changing this epidemic.

Pesticides are a negative for your health. Is saving $1 or $2 worth the negative effects on your internal flora? Some foods are sprayed more than others. Best to buy organic from the heavily sprayed foods

Some hospitals have damn near Michelin star food. The mental health center near south bend Indiana had the single best meals I've ever had in a mass produced setting. First day they served real roast beef in gravy with whole radishes and carrots chunks over a bed of homemade mashed potatoes, buttered rolls (fresh baked from frozen dough), cheesecake with fresh (just strawberries and sugar cooked together that day) strawberry topping, and a juice of your choice to drink. Definitely made the whole thing a lot less scary when I always had meals to look forward to. And every meal hit that same mark of quality and flavor. Someone definitely loved their job and took pride in feeding these people amazing food

UCLA has great food! It’s the same as they serve the staff for meals. Quite fresh and healthy. It’s delivered room service style, as well. You call in and order what you’d like.

2/3 ain't bad. The "layers of abstraction" may refer to is insurance, specifically the largest insurer, Medicare. A true market place is a myth for healthcare. IF we don't have truly connected umbrella of public health, we will be in a worse shape for the next pandemic. A marketplace only allows for the haves and have nots to thrive or die.

I learned a lot from this insightful podcast on the complexity of American healthcare and what could be done to improve it! Here are some thoughts: One misunderstanding of using insurance appears to be that a lot of people think that they must get more out of it than they paid into it as a premium. Truly a capitalistic way. And not sustainable without increasing premiums. On the other hand companies in the health care business are there to increasingly make money on serving the customers/patients which is legitimate and also truly capitalistic. If it is legitimate for companies to look at it from a capitalistic way, how is it not legitimate or wrong for customers/patients to do the same? Untangle that….

The common question I get asked and I ask when I hear about digital healthcare startups is, who's going to pay for it? They envision a world with their solution but until health systems adopt technology at a faster pace and reimbursement happens earlier in the life cycle we're going to continue to see a lower rate of acquisition and adoption in digital health.
