The Cheapest Automatic Submariner Homage on Amazon - Review
I decided to buy the cheapest Automatic Rolex Submariner homage on Amazon. I figured it wouldn't be great. But just how bad is a $22 automatic dive watch? Is it worthwhile at all? Or should you save a few more bucks and go for a Steeldive, Addiesdive, or Invicta?

Shoulda just got the Casio duro
Dude that's some nice work, great review. Just suscribed 🤙🏻
Thanks for watching, and subbing!
I love Mark and own one of his Islanders. I didn't know he has a true GMT version--thanks.
Forget Submariner, this is a Pro Diver homage 😂
This isn’t a bracelet watch it screams a strap watch
Yes, it does look nice on a strap. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for taking the time to showcase such an outstanding piece of (💩) craftsmanship. It is truly a rare experience for us all to witness such (💩) fine materials and incredible attention to perfecting (💩) in every detail. This is a watch that you can truly be proud of and handing down to the next generation so they can put it straight in the 🚮
So... some guy in a chinese bracelet decided to actually Homage an Invicta... lmao!!
Watchdives is as low as I'm willing to go. And I'm still impressed with it.
Yeah, I haven't owned a Watchdives yet, but I'm hoping to review one soon. Thanks for watching!
I had been tempted by the ultra low price. Not anymore! Thanks for your review. I agree with your recommendations of Steeldive / AddesDive / Invicta Pro Diver. They are the best (IMHO) bang for your buck mechanical watches.
San martin Watchdives, seiko etc
@@mtmatt8958 San martin Watchdives, (lower end) seiko etc, all use the same movement, the NH 35 Seiko movement (called the 4R 35 in the Seikos). Aside from that the Steeldive 1970, for example, has a sapphire crystal, ceramic 120 click unidirectional bezel, a 316L stainless steel case and bracelet with solid links and a sturdy clasp. The San Martin and lower end Seiko all have similar specs, but the Seikos have a "Hardlex" (tempered glass) crystal. They are anywhere from 2 to 10 times the price of the Steeldive. It's all about bang for your buck.
Brilliant vibe. Thanks for that. In defence of Squale (with their smaller hands), I think they were aiming for a more vintage look. Sort of like what Fender does with the re-issue Strats.
Yeah, I prefer the new maxi dial version. They came out with that soon after I bought mine. I wish I had waited for the new one! Thanks for watching!
Lol winner winner chicken dinner 😊
I’d be scared to get cancer from whatever metal they’re claiming to use.
I hadn't thought of that! Thanks for watching!
Hahaha
Ha! Very entertaining. A Pagani Design doesn’t sound too bad after that. What we have to also remember that for a lot of people in the world $25 is quite a bit of money. Anyway, thanks for the entertaining review!
Yeah, I tried not to be too hard on the Winner, and give alternatives that are much better for not much more money. I haven't had good luck with Pagani myself, so I tend not to recommend them. Thanks for watching as always!
Good watch, very good review.
Thanks for watching!
I have a black 41 and of my 29 watch collection with more expensive choices, it is my favorite!
whoa that watch looks really cool
Yeah, it's definitely nice looking. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great review. It’s a beautiful watch, but the MSRP is a bit expensive for the lack of specs. Looking forward to the comparison!
Yeah, it's not a "value watch" for sure. Thanks for watching!
I think it’s worth it if just for the looks although the movement needs to be more regulated for the price
@@MikeLawrence-i6rI’ve always said there’s “value” in a good design (as a former designer). It’s just a little expensive for me period so my views may be skewed.
Nice watch, but lost me at the seiko movement
I tried going down the Chinese clone route for a while, but I ended up buying the Hamilton. I just couldn’t shake the feeling I was wearing a cheap knock off. Yeah they’re good value for money, but the feeling you get isn’t the same, or even close.
I can understand that. I'm actually wearing my Hamilton Khaki today! Thanks for watching.
Nice to watch a calm detailed review, without all the screaming hysterics of youtube. Thanks for a great effort!
Went with the white 38. By my eye the black outline refines the printed markers and slimmed the hands a bit. Missing 6:00 marker doesn’t look as empty either. Have the purple 41 as well - it’s awesome too, but if I had to go with one it would be the 38. Great content - subbed and liked!
Yeah, the white dial does look nice. Thanks for watching!
A link to the AliExpress watch would be greatly appreciated or a model number or somewhere where I could do some more investigation
It's listed on Ali Express as: Escapement Time VH31 Quartz Movement Watch 38mm Case Waterproof 100M Super luminous. The model number is listed as H0300. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
BEA-uitiful! Love mine 😊
I'll take a Squale over the Ginault as they have heritage and history as well as offering quality and value. I particularly like the 20 Atmos Militare ceramic Mk2, which has utilitarian painted markers and broadsword hands as a homage to a Milsub. The watch also has a slim lug case and is brought up-to-date with a large crown, ceramic bezel insert and domed sapphire crystal. The Ginault is nice, but the text on the dial is somewhat inane. I agree that it is more appealing than a modern Rolex sub though.
Yeah, that Squale is very nice. Thanks for watching!
I got at their release as well, only watch on my wrist the last month….i have over 60 in my collection. Dang it is so good. It can not be emphasized enough, the bracelet is perfect, absolutely perfect. I love the lume, love the size, love the style. Only niggle, a bit tall. When Jody decides to release a thinner version with miyota 9xxx series I am all in. I’m getting a assent soon too, so looking forward to it.
I'm really looking forward to the Ascent too. Enjoy your Origin and thanks for watching!

This particular version is actually considered Ocean Rover 2.5 - John has made some improvements to the watch compared to initial OR2 that was sold during pre-sale but has not stated those one the website. From the Ginault Facebook page and John's clarifications, the changes are as follows: - slimmer caseback, allowing the watch to sit at approx 11.2 mm (compared to 12.5 mm of the original OR2); - improved AR Coating - 3 layers of AR coating on the inside compared to 2 on the inside and 1 on the outside, allowing for better visibility and preventing scratches - AR coating on the outside is prone to scratches that are visible under certain conditions; - added minute indices under "Hand Build in America" - initial versions didn't have those, however John started additing those dials in 2021 so there is a batch of OR2's with the new dial but without other improvements. Nevertheless, every newly ordered OR2 has all of the above improvements. Just beware when buying them secondhand.
Thanks for the detailed list of changes!
I've had my Erebus Origin 38 for a little over a week now and am really enjoying it. I also went with the black dial/bezel. The micro adjustments and great feature. I'm finding it is a very comfortable watch to wear for full days. The only thing i wish is that they would have offered it in a "no" date option. I will be looking into the Ascent in the future. I liked your review, very informative and to the point. Keep up the great content.
Thanks for watching. Yeah, a no-date option would help balance that 6:00 area on the dial.
Ginault has panache, like a Porsche 911, or a Subaru WRX. There's nothing else exactly like it.
Im very sorry to say this, but the hands look too thick.
I can understand that viewpoint. But I like stout hands on a diver. Thanks for watching!
Great review.
Thanks for watching!
Nice job, never seen your video before, great cámara work. I subscribed.
hi hope you mention your wrist size for the upcmimg watch content
I try to mention it in the videos (6.75", 17cm). Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great review!
It's a great watch! Thanks for stopping by!
Do you know if these indices are the same size as the 41? If so, then good, since the dial on the 41 had too much empty space.
I don't have a 41mm here to compare side by side. But I agree about the empty space. I prefer the dial proportions of the 38mm.
I have a Squale 20 Atmos ceramic Mk2, which is a Milsub tribute watch with the broadsword hands. I think that Squale have made a near perfect watch with little to complain about at this price point. The watch offers great value and I like not having an object of high value on my wrist. I really enjoy the Milsub look in a modern watch with an easily serviced movement. I also own a 1545 grey dial/grey bezel and a 1521 Marina Militare and I have become a bit of a Squale fan.
Very cool! Squale has some interesting watches. Thanks for watching!
Please tell me where these watches are made?
Pretty sure the Port Jefferson is made in China, along with most Islanders aside from the Ameriquartz models.
@@worthwhilewatches Ok, thanks 👍
Perfect watch. But a little expensive for NH35 would´ve loved to be have the option for pt5000
Uhhhh don't wear the watch too tight? The case back feedback is ridiculous. I do agree with the 6pm empty space.
My wrist tends to swell during the day and sometimes it can get too tight before I realize it. Just my opinion. Thanks for watching!
This is some excellent production value for a channel so young. Keep up the good work! SUB!
Thanks, will do!
I mentioned on another video, it looks much thicker on wrist on camera than the specs indicate. How does the bracelet feel overall, is it easily an all day watch besides the sharp case back?
I find the bracelet comfortable to wear all day. The tool-less microadjust clasp makes a huge difference in getting the perfect, comfortable fit and avoiding the case back sharpness. I think the tall bezel edge with no slope adds to the appearance of thickness. It doesn't seem to wear overly tall compared to other dive watches, in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
Lug-to-lug too long for me.
It doesn’t wear that big with the negative end links. I have small wrists and It wears well.
I like the strap...Very Sinn like.🧐
If you're a 40k fan you'd hate this watch regardless, fuck erebus 🤣.
Thanks for this insightful and thorough review. Good point about the date wheel colour - I agree white would have made more sense. I always thought the dial of the 41mm had too much empty space. The smaller dial on the 38 mitigates that issue.
yuck
Shameless ripoff of Helm Vanuatu,Helm should sue his ass!!
You're right. He's a fan of the Vanuatu, probably inspired by it's popularity. ££££😅
Who is Helm Vanatu?
Like many watch designs it might have a lot of similarities, but it’s different enough calling it a ripoff is hyperbole. And I think Jody did it better 🤷🏻♂️
It’s a great size option. I think would have preferred it over my larger version
I love the Origin, both sizes. Jody is doing things right. Good review!
Yes they are! Thanks for watching.
I love my 41mm Origin, but I would have preferred the 38mm for sure. I think the Ascents will start shipping in a couple weeks. I cannot wait! Thanks for the great review. And completely agree. A white date wheel would have worked better.
Can't wait to get my Ascent! Thanks again for watching!
Which dial did you get? I went safe and got the enamel white. Although I’m think I should have got the green.
I went with the blue helix (after weeks of consideration).
