Channel about fairy tales, folklore, customs, traditions, local legends, nature and other similar things. I'm also occasionally making videos about The Witcher since I'm a big fan of that fantasy world and the idea behind this channel was actually inspired by it to some extent.

Why do you translate it as Hexer? 😂 it's called "wiedzmin" in polish same as the game and books ans netflix show Btw in original language book laughs at word "wiedźmak" (hexer) as oldspeech for "wiedzmin" (witcher) so even source material roasts that translation
one major issue is that white europeans are actively attacked and denied having their own history, everything is either defined by their interactions with non-white cultures or non-whites are forcibly inserted into their cultural traditions and stories where they never existed.
In Poland :Platige Image (the company that decided to produce and post-production of video content) for the series "The Witcher", which was eventually purchased by Netflix.
I love the Skywalkwer comparison, that's the kiss of death for any IP. CDPR is full corpo now, playing it safe.
Fellow Kaedwen larpers unite Nilfgardian larper is here!
Vlad Samoylikov's artwork from 'Ash of God,' would be perfect for adapting this series into an animation. His European-style artwork, particularly the sharp facial expressions.
Nilfgaard was inspired by the Holy Roman Empire (medieval/early renaissance germany)
It was a very enjoyable watch. Had to trudge through it I suppose but I looked back on it with rose tinted glasses: so much so, that I gave it a rewatch.
Just to reassure you that not everyone from America is a complete idiot, I could feel this difference as soon as the Netfix show came out. I've never actually played any game other than Witcher 3, but even there I could see that, yes, there are many influences, but the central one (pardon the pun) was Eastern European. And I pretty much didn't get any of that from 90% of the Netflix production. (Never mind how they butchered the characters and the story arcs.) It boggles the mind that Peter Jackson was able to so perfectly convey the proper feeling of LotR without even leaving one country, yet Netfix had the freedom they did and they still failed.
Oh wah wah wah. Bunch of elitist babies. Same on reddit. I'll agree the live action series was crap, from a lore point of view. Beyond that, just enjoy the various projects for what they are and stop gatekeeping Sapkowski's work all jealous and bitter 🤣🤣🤣
Holy Roman Empire != Roman Empire. Nilfgaard was inspired by Holy Roman Empire (medieval German Empire), even the colors are the same (black and gold).
Just like the entire Witcher universe, the inspiration for Nilfgaard was a mix of various influences, such as the Roman Empire (starting as a kingdom, having a senate, and many other similarities), the Holy Roman Empire, and Nazi Germany.
Btw witcher games were to some extent inspired from gothic.
8:35 I just wanted to throw this out there, but this is also mirroring my own journey with Star Wars the sequels. I didn’t mind the new stuff at all and had some critique, but there was just so much negativity and hate and people jumping on that bandwagon (harassing actors, throwing out way too much unhinged hate) That there was just a lot of lame discussion, and I wanted to separate myself from it. So many people are caught up in what they don’t like, they don’t see what’s positive or what to let people who do like it or love it be. I took some time to experience the new movie, books, and TV shows on my own time, including the novelization of the movies, it made me enjoy the new Star Wars even more; I stopped caring about about “what other people thought” I still have critiques and strong thoughts about some of Star Wars (old and new) but I allow myself to enjoy it however I want and appreciate some of the work that went into it. Thanks for making this video - I’m just starting my play-through for Witcher 3 and I’m gonna add the Hexer to my to-watch-list!
I'm very big on music and soundtracks; a lot of the time I will listen to soundtracks even if I haven't watched the movie/show, or even don't intend to. I'm curious, is there a particularly good link or place to search for the Hexer soundtrack? You have me curious to hear it. Is it anything like the Witcher 3 soundtrack, in terms of vibe or instruments?
Yeah, it’s somewhat similar in that it uses simple instruments for folk music. You can listen to it here: ua-cam.com/play/PL42DEAAD29994AFC7.html&si=1rmVWjIcaSfyiXRE
@@FolkWalkCZ Wow. I just did a quick listen to several of the tracks, some of them actually sound like they could have come from the game. I love the vocal choir; I definitely enjoy that type of sound. I'll be saving this playlist for sure. Thanks for the link! Now it's back to the Path for me. (There was recently a great sale on GOG, so even though I had the game for console, I just picked up Witcher 3 on pc as well for modding. I'm such a geek. 😂)
@ Hey, so... just wanted to let you know real quick that I followed your advice to find all the episodes of the Hexer (I've been calling it that just to keep it straight in my own head) and HOLY CRAP! I can give the first couple of episodes a pass, because I don't really need the backstory, but the rest is so good; I'm currently working my way through the series, one or two eps per night. Seriously, I love this, especially Jaskier. I would take him over the Netflix version (no offense to Joey Batey) in a heartbeat. And the quality doesn't bother me at all. I will happily watch original Star Trek all day long, I love fan made series... I am fine with stuff that has a lower budget when the actors and story are right. Thanks so much for the video and the advice on where to find it, because I never knew this existed.
Can ask for your reaction to Half a Century of Poetry Later - a 2019 Polish fantasy film set in the Witcher world, directed by Jakub Nurzyński? ua-cam.com/video/5GLtk2cLRu4/v-deo.html
Yeah they are going to ruin ciris character. Cdpr is dead I hope the game flops like the Netflix show
Places like Toussant or Skellige have 0% slavic-ness for example
Żebrowski and Zamachowski + music and landscapes makes this show my favorite fantasy show since childhood.
The Polish dragon wasn't great, but I really have no idea what should I expect from Polish cinematography at that time instead. Neither they had experience in that nor had money to invest in a franchise that was popular maybe in a couple of countries and none of them rich. The netflix dragon was much more disappointing for me.
15:30 Tv show was made by Polish Public TV (TVP), so they own the rights: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telewizja_Polska
In my opinion it is so much better than a Netflix version. Ok, perhaps it lacks the modern FX but has great climate and actor play.
well, I kinda agree. Żebrowski was much better performing as Geralt, while Cavil, as much I love Henry for his superman, and I like the guy and actor in general, I did not appreciate his performance as Geralt, cos he was stiff, looking like a tough-guy wannabe, where Geralt is a gentle and a fragile soul, żebrowski is a-ma-zing. although I much prefer ciri in Netflix series, I really really like her and I really really enjoyed her relationship with geralt and how her story started to unfold. unfortunately that ended with the ending of netflix witcher season 1.
thank you
The Hexer was done with a quarter of Netflix budget. But the vibe, acting, relationships are good, they reflect the origunal material. Even when they step away from the source material they manage to keep up that vibe/flavour of the story. It's really good at showing not telling. Its far from perfect, but it did a better job than Netflix, really not surprised that Henry left. It was painful to watch how they butcher it.😢😢
I remember when I watched the show some 12 years ago that the first episode started with the horrible effects and I was groaning at them, but I remember liking the show overall and the moment when he reunites with Ciri was really, really good. At the end of the day, the show shined in ways that the Netflix show doesn´t, and the actors really acted their souls out. I agree that Cavill might be a great guy and a big Witcher fan, but he is just too pretty to be Geralt. He has a goddamn chin dimple. Come on! And yeah, as much as I adore Joey Batey, their relationship in the Netflix show is just sad. It´s like they just had to make Geralt too cool to be friends with anyone, like he is suffering a fool, like he likes Jaskier against his will. You made some great points.
dude, your words melted my heart :D I love polish "Wiedźmin" since i've seen the show first time. And yes, before that i've seen the film, which butchered the story, but i never hated the show. I;ve loved it since first watching. And the music..... this is awesome. You just made me rewatch it again :D greetings from Poland :D
1:43 Panie Wiedźmin, pan jeszcze wielu rzeczy o mnie nie wiesz
My friend in Czechia compared me to čert. But in the sense, he said its commonly seen as evil spirit, but he said I'm like devil with horns, but good devil. Like Čert lol
Would be nice to se a game with one of the first Witchers, or Vesemir in his youth
The worst thing about Jaskier is that he is shown like a rockstar. Leather jacket and the eccentric behavior when he sings. Nothing like a medieval bard or poet would be. He is more like Axel Rose then someone who sings romantic ballads for fucks sake.
❤
As Polish person when i saw that Jaskier is gay in netfilix shitty fanfic, when i saw the fuckin mages turned into fishes, when i saw ciri skywalker 30+years old- the one girl army i instantly revoke my subscription to netflix NETFLIX YOU ARE PIECE OF SHIT btw new Book of Sapkowski crossroads of ravens are fuckin masterpiece like always
Geralt is better in the old version. To me the perfect Geralt.
it holds up really well. not many things do, but this show does. Every relationship they present is so wholesome because they allow Geralt’s goodness lead and determine the course of things. It’s actually remarkable, the writing. I am glad this series strayed from the books in this way. It’s an improvement IMO. Even with Shrike you saw Gerald determined to believe in her capacity to be good, yet not willing to allow her to get away with or accomplish her evil. And in the games and books Gerald is a pathetic simp. In this series he’s not at all a simp, but does have a true love for Yennefer, and the part where he calls her out for being a hoe…it’s the way a man should treat such a situation. It’s hard to stomach but he handles everything well. That is rare to see in any media.
Hexer is not excelent show - some episodes are good (adaptation of books) but others are terrible (most of what they added on their own is bad, for example as you mentioned about Geralt childhood) so it in my opinion earn 6/10... but it's still better then Netflix crap that in comparison deserve 3-4/10 - and we should take a look at budget and technological differences in these two :) Greetings from Poland and if you liked Hexer I strongly suggest to take a look at "pół wieku poezji później" (half a century of poetry later). It's low-budget fan-made movie made on PL around~2019 it's alternative ending of story from books (not like in games, here we get world with Triss, Lambert, and old Dandelion 25 years after Geralt's death)
It's incredible how, despite constructing one of the most complex high fantasy universes, Sapkowski still managed to maintain a level of realism. The geopolitical tension, the military, the battles, the character dynamics, and every little detail of the world are believable. I absolutely love the armor design in The Witcher 3.
