Folk Walk
United States
Приєднався 27 жов 2022
Channel about fairy tales, folklore, customs, traditions, local legends, nature and other similar things. I'm also occasionally making videos about The Witcher since I'm a big fan of that fantasy world and the idea behind this channel was actually inspired by it to some extent.
Revenant – undead in folklore explained
In this video, I want to discuss undead creatures in folklore, focusing primarily on the Revenant and the Fext.

In my opinion, she’s a much better and stronger female character than the ones Hollywood has been trying to create over the past decade, and I want to explain why in this video. #fairytales #fantasy #strongfemalelead Fantaghiro 1 (part 1): ua-cam.com/video/NwuM4eAn_Zk/v-deo.htmlsi= y-uMYLbDHcZ7-F Fantaghiro 1 (par...

Europe needs better cultural representation

I've been thinking for a while that as European we suck at representing our culture and because Hollywood definitely won't represent it faithfully we should finally realize that it's on us and start doing something about it. #europeanculture #folklore #history

I deleted the link for the show because I'm a bit afraid that this video might get copyright claimed or even deleted because of that. But you can find the show with English subtitles yourself on archive.org if you search for "The Witcher (Polish TV Series)". It shoul...

I just discovered your channel today because I was researching the drowning of Morana for my current novel. I am writing a series of novels, set in Prague, which incorporate aspects of Czech myth and history, ancient and recent. Not published yet, but I'm now at the end of the first draft of book #3. I would love to get in touch - your videos seem to have some of the same themes. Is there a way we can make contact? This is for real - not a scam.
You can contact me at folkwalkcz@gmail.com
Amazing video, looking forward to see more slavic folk content
Thanks 🙂
Great video. I loved the part of the girl in the mortuary, it gave me goosebumps. Around this time of the year, not so long ago in my town, the council used to pay men to guard the cemetery. Just in case...
Heard of them from mortal kombat x and 11.
I always find it a bit hilarious when such creatures in folklore can only be seen by the "simple minded" and children.... I wonder why that is.... might be the same reason why UFOs only visit less educated rural areas I guess :D
Your voice sounds quite different than usual. New mic or are you feeling a bit sick?
@@hammad9091 Nothing changed so I have no idea 😃
@FolkWalkCZ maybe I'm the one who's sick 😂
❤
another great video man!
Thank you 🙂
Even Turkish StarWars low budget version is better than those sequels made by Disney.
It's interesting to me from a linguistic viewpoint that "umrlec" corresponds so well to Old English's "līċ" (not to be confused with the unaccented -lic, which is just a suffix that means like, as seen with modern German words like freundlich) , which means corpse, and is the source of the common fantasy monster type the Lich. Germanic and Slavic language groups at their root both come from Proto-Indo European ancestors, so even where we have diverged, we can find some similarities.
Thanks for the info, very interesting 🙂
Wow, your videos are always so helpful! I’m currently working on a fantasy book that heavily incorporates folklore, and your content has been an incredible resource. Thank you for sharing such valuable insights!☺️
Thanks 🙂 Glad I could be of help 😉
Yes, I'm also huge fan of FolkWalk works!
Great vid!
Thanks 🙂
Slavic folklore has quite the large amount of undead/ghost stories or related tales, it's interesting how people of the old venerated the dead in one way or another. Like the ancient day "dziady" in Poland where people usually from rural villages come together usually in a abandoned church or cemetery house in order to try and appease some spirits to help them pass on. The whole occurrence is actually written down in a book by one of our national writers "Adam Mickiewicz".
Yeah, I made a video about that custom last year 🙂
I am very grateful to you for how you show our Slavic culture to the outside world.
Hey Man! Nice to hear from you, thanks for another great, thrilling video! 😁
Thank you for watching and commenting ❤️

What do you think of Thorgal comic series?
Good video
I think you'd like John Falangans book series
As a Czech women whose family immigrated elsewhere and grew up outside of Czechia your channel is a valuable educational source and makes me feel closer to my ancestry. It's hard to find information on folk traditions that are in English so I really appreciate it. Please never stop!
Thank you 🙂 I'm currently working on a video about an old Czech folk story with creepy atmosphere that you might enjoy 😉 I hope to finish it by Thursday.
I look forward it! ❤
imagine if TW was being done by HBO we would most likely still have the goat Henry Cavill
Bro die hard here. I don't think it's "shallow" to want to avoid playing older titles because they are dated. Difference in game play between TES5 and Oblivion/Morrowind is nowhere near as bad as between Witcher 3 and Witcher 1. Witcher 1 played like a wonky MMO due to limitations and inexperience of devs at the time, and felt somewhat immature in writing at times, hence the remake. No need to call people "shallow" for wanting to wait until a more modern and well-made version is developed that applies what Devs learned from working on Cyberpunk and Witcher 3.
those who claim the books were/are not Slavic are merely trying to delegitimise the story and it's roots to excuse the dog*&^t that was the Netflix series that lfelt more like like LA transplanted into pseudo medieval times not Eastern Europe. The same vandalism that was done to Tolkien's work, no European centric stories are allowed without adhering to 'The Message'
Rei was so bad MatPat made a vid with a theory that she is Palpatine.
Comment for statistics
In 3rd season Netflix did hire Percival Schittenbach but they did some crazy remixing of their songs in oreder to deprive it of harmony.
I said when I came out of the cinema after watching the masterpiece that is the Northman, that now every other Viking show or movie is ruined to me, not just for the clothes, but for the attempt at transportation to the mindset of the era.....which would't have been possible without attention to the clothes, since they affect everything ,from movement to body language to actual plot points. So the argument that they don't matter is null and void. To understand another story in another time, you have to start by understanding the world from the bottom up, because it shapes the way the story will play out.
How many times do the characters sit down and debate about philosophy, history or some scholarly topic, usually while drinking? That's the quintessential slavic experience right there.
Good video
> Yennefer - sex with others = cheating. > Geralt - sex with others = not cheating. They were not in a relationship.
Or as you mentioned with fantastay aka fantastic elements of the genre, it's its more realisiam, the more it is historically accurate to the period the better, low fantasy is better in my opinion, if you have the over fantasied elements it's not realistic or interesting, mixing it with real life makes it relatable,.
Whine whine complain complain. Despite all the nitpicks, which is exactly what they are, I still don't see the issue with the casting or acting. It's thematically on point and serves to tell the story. Fans are sometimes a little too anal. Why do you want the books to be the same as the game to be the same as the show? 😅 Experiencing the same thing in 3 different mediums is mental. I'm glad they went a different route. The only thing that sucked was the bloody time jumps with no indication it is a time jump
I make it short. If you only take the costumes it’s better than the Netflix version… Btw. Does anyone know a legel stream for the series?
You didn't pay attention. Hexer has spirit of the books while Netflix series is just smth you watch when dead brain. Because if it recqired even a 15 min of focus you would notice plotholes and would not enjoy it. Also Netflix series has as much to do with Sapkowski 's books as cactus has with a tooth brush
End of the Sun has premiere in November. It is a detectivistic game in which one plays as a priest of Slavic Gods and solves problems people have with ghosts. Demo already shows some awsome plot and atmosphere seems to be family friendly
