Home Decorators Collection - Cordless Cellular Shades/Blinds - How to Install/Overview
This is an instructional video showing how to install the Home Decorators Collection Cordless Light Filtering Cellular Shades (from Home Depot) on the inside of the window openings. The video also includes the unboxing, how to measure your opening, and an overview of the product. The instructions included with the blinds were not very intuitive so I decided to make this video to help anyone who is struggling to get these installed. I'm not a professional and simply want to share my experience with the install. Hope this helps some other DIYers out there, thanks!

    This Video is amazing! So many great tips and lots of lessons learned along the way. I most definitely appreciate the cuts you had to do to make it fit for your stiars. I've also faced a few challenges along the way to make specific cuts to make it fit. Than you for making this video! :)

    Excellent video, thanks so much. I installed Lifeproof LVP in 1 room several months ago and had been putting off the next room because I was concerned about working backwards. Your instructions gave me the confidence to finish it all up. It really wasn't too different from installing the "correct" way. Thanks again!

    I tried doing it where I clamped the plank and bent the bullnose. Your way is much better where you clamp the bullnose and use the extra plank as leverage. Also I used a propane torch to heat it up quicker - a bit more risky but a few quick passes and it heats up well

    Thanks for the installation video. They only come in 48" and 72" length. I got the custom cut width to 25" but need to shorten the pull down to 61". Is there a way to do that?

    • @StephenLaGrange
      @StephenLaGrange Місяць тому

      I don't think there is any way to shorten the pull down length, but I'm not sure if that is really necessary. The shades are designed to stay bunched up at the bottom so as long as they are long enough to cover the window you should be good.

    Thanks, great video. I m glad you pointed out that the corner to corner method was wrong. When I first started watching I was wondering "hmmm, maybe i should go corner to corner".:) Btw, it isn't a mistake for this (having to do a room in reverse) to happen, it happens often when you want a continuous floor from room to room and you have rooms on both sides of a hallway. The only way to avoid it is to have transition strips at the doorways, but the continuous way looks nicer. Also, you usually start in the hallway anyways to ensure that the lines are parallel to the walls. Because hallways are narrow, any skewedness in the planking is very obvious, whilest in a larger room it is harde to detect. If you start at the far side of a bedroom and work your way to the hallway, it is likely by the time you reach the hallway you will have some skewedness. Thus you start in the hallway and work into the bedrooms.

    • @StephenLaGrange
      @StephenLaGrange Місяць тому

      Yep, starting in the hallway is the best practice. Thanks for the comment!

    If it is down glue vinyl plank 2 mm think bending is easier than a 5 mm and than a click vinyl plank and you can heat it from the top. Everything depends of the thickness of the material you’re bending.

    What do you do about the top stair nosing tread if you take off the black backing piece? Isn't the height uneven next to the laminate on the top landing behind it?

    • @StephenLaGrange
      @StephenLaGrange 5 місяців тому

      Yes, I talk about this about 31:00 into the video. I left a thin strip of the backing attached to the back of that top landing plank so it would line up correctly with the next piece.

    • @StephenLaGrange
      @StephenLaGrange 5 місяців тому

      At the top landing? I covered that in the video, but that piece was bent and cut out differently so it would fit between the stringers. I also only removed part of the backing on that piece. I removed enough so it could be properly glued down, but left enough so the next landing piece (with backing) could be installed.

  • @davidwomack5982
    @davidwomack5982 6 місяців тому

    I was with you until you put all those clamps directly on the face of the vinyl. Better would have been to use a piece of wood underneath those clamps. So, you removed the backing? What thickness is the vinyl?

    • @StephenLaGrange
      @StephenLaGrange 6 місяців тому

      Yeah, adding a piece of wood with the clamps is a good idea. I removed the backing so the plank could be glued directly to the stairs. If you don't there is a good chance that plank will come loose over time. I believe this Lifeproof plank is 7mm.

    Interesting idea. Any recommendations for open riser stairs? Also does the thickness of the wear layer matter for the lifeproof planks?

    • @StephenLaGrange
      @StephenLaGrange 7 місяців тому

      I have not seen anyone try this on an open riser stair, but I imagine they could be installed in the same way. The only issue I can think of is that there is not really a good way to trim out the plank on the bottom side of the tread as the riser would normally be there. If the stairs are not visible from the back side then this probably wouldn't be an issue. The wear layer matters on any type of LVP. In general the thicker the wear layer the longer the product is going to last. Products that have a thicker wear layer can typically take more abuse and are meant for more high traffic conditions. These could be considered commercial products and are generally more expensive. Products with a thinner wear layer are typically meant for residential use and are generally cheaper.
