Jeff Buckley's album, Grace, is amazing. I'm guessing the Amplitube folks were trying to create the Grace vibe with this patch.

    This was very fun. I brought up a note pad on a separate screen so I could jot down my preferences and check afterwards. The Blue Marvel won every test except the very first one. It was a toss-up on the second clean test. But after that, once any slight drive or distortion was involved the Blue Marvel unanimously won all the rest. Safe to say I'm keeping my Blue Marvel in. Cool shootout. Thanks for taking the time to meticulously do this

    I've been restoring a similar model 100/1 M but it has a bolt on neck and a Hofner pickup instead of an original, cool little guitar. I have made some short of the repair and restoring proces so far and am currently waiting for a couple of 500k pots. Yours is very cool, most of these were bolt on necks.

    • @davestadel
      @davestadel 5 місяців тому

      Excellent. These are fun little guitars. Glad to see you're having fun with yours. I need to make a video update on mine. I installed new pots and knobs on mine. The modern player in me would appreciate a slightly higher output pickup, but I rarely plug it in anyway.

    • @FraJa1980
      @FraJa1980 5 місяців тому

      @@davestadel Cool! Looking forwards to watching it! I get what you mean regarding the pickup output, mine isn't original but a 50's Hofner Nova sonic "staple" p.u. and that thing is only between 4 to 5k output (4.3 is the most stable reading I got) and I have to turn the amp up way higher than say my Les Paul or Tele. The low output does make it that it won't feedback as much which is a plus for a hollow body but yeah comparing it to modern guitars or just "better" guitars they do seem to lack some punch. Did you use smaller pots? Mine had the biggest post I've ever seen (Lesa branded) ... not necessarily the housing but the solder lugs and their base made this even larger than a regular full sized CTS... they had to notch the underside of the top at the widest part of the f hole to jam those in at the factory and I had the hardest time getting them out. I've ordered CTS mini pots for it because I didn't want to risk using the old ones or buy the large pots and messing up that F hole. Wanted to use the original pots but the size was an issue and they turned very heavy so I figured I'd spend 9 euros to give it some new ones and give myself a little break for the ease of reassembly. I do intend to reuse the original knobs if they fit the new pots, they should ... but knurled vs solid shaft could end up making a difference. Sorry about the huge piece of text ... when I get started on this stuff it's hard to stop.

    • @davestadel
      @davestadel 5 місяців тому

      @@FraJa1980 I checked my notes and I did use mini pots, Alpha A500k. Mine didn't have knobs but I found some 'Harmony style' that seemed close to what I was seeing online. I had to replace the jack on mine and re-run the ground wire back to the end pin.

    Also i wouldn't be mad having either in my amp. They sound close enough for me. But you cant capture the feel of a speaker inna youtube vidoe. If you get what i mean The video will give you an idea but not a accurate representation. I've also noticed the room im playing makes a huge difference. My amp sounds different in my big empty room compared to my guitar room which I've filled to absorb some sound. But i enjoy playing in the bedroom because it fills the room nicely.

    Hypothetically I could see going for the GB128 for highs or the Neo 100 for power, but in real life, I've owned three Peavey Classic-series amps, and I've never felt compelled to deviate from the stock speaker. I've always been very happy with the sound.

  • @thadlogan51
    @thadlogan51 6 місяців тому

    Marvel so much better it's not even close. The Marshall speaker sounded like you put a to blanket over the speaker which made it sound muddy in comparison to the bright, clear, punchy sound of the marvel. People automatically assume that because Peavey classic amps and stock speakers are relatively inexpensive compared to bigger name brands that they will sound inferior but they actually sound better than almost every other amps out there regardless of price. In a blind test I think almost anyone would pick the marvel speaker over the Marshall...

  • @JonRayRunawayVealMusic
    @JonRayRunawayVealMusic 6 місяців тому

    Weird …I think Blue marvel is much more treble and a bit offending ….but when paired with a different speaker in an external cab it sounds fine . Ii use for recording so I need only one speaker ….it’s a hassle to change out the internal speaker by removing the entire chassis etc …. I plan on using only the external speaker jack …I can run any speaker I want . I also think the classic 30 benefits from a closed black …112E. ….much more focused ….quite possible the blue marvel in the external cab would sound great ?? I’m about to yank the internal speaker wires , tape em off and use a Weber blue dog, a celestion etc….see what sounds best to my ears ….plus the 112E can be turned into an open back as well. I suppose the type of guitar influences choices as well . I don’t like the blue marvel as the only internal speaker …sounds ice picky to me… I may try an eq pedal before I mod anything one last time . Also I may try turning the amps clean channel up and use a volume pedal to see if that helps ….a good amp no matter what ….

  • @JonRayRunawayVealMusic
    @JonRayRunawayVealMusic 6 місяців тому

    Ok is this correct ? 1. tape off the internal speaker wires from the amp. 2. Plugin in an external 8ohm speaker cab into the external jack of the classic 30? I have a speaker cable 1/4 to 1/4 . Is that all or am I missing something ?

    • @davestadel

  • @JonRayRunawayVealMusic

    • @davestadel
      @davestadel 6 місяців тому

      Disconnect and tape off the speaker leads from the amp. Then, hook up speaker to Ext jack with a new cable. And, there's no way to attach a picture in comments.

  • @JonRayRunawayVealMusic
    @JonRayRunawayVealMusic 6 місяців тому

    Hmm I understand taping the internal speaker off…not sure what you mean spade adapter one side, right angle 1/4 on the other ? How does that look connected ? Any help is really appreciated

    • @davestadel
      @davestadel 6 місяців тому

      I'd mounted that Legend 8ohm speaker. Ran home made speaker cable from speaker to ext 1/4 jack. Also taped off the other lead, coming from the amp. When you plug into the ext. Jack the amp runs 8 ohms.

  • @JonRayRunawayVealMusic
    @JonRayRunawayVealMusic 6 місяців тому

    How did you stop the internal speaker from sounding at the same time plugging in the 8ohm speakers ? I am trying to figure out how to use just the external speaker ….both make sound when an external speaker is plugged in ? The external jack also says 16ohms ?? How are you using 8ohms ? Thanks

    • @davestadel
      @davestadel 6 місяців тому

      I had the internal speaker leads taped off. I used my own short cable with spade adapter one side, right angle 1/4" on the other. That way the amp puts out 8ohms to one speaker. If you use the internal speaker + extension speaker they both should be 16ohm speakers. A single 8 ohm speaker should be into the ext speaker jack.

    Thanx for an excellent view of this amp. Just bought this old modell and plugged it in, a bit noicy and a major POP when you turn it off. Think it sound deacent, better than yours, but that prolly is utubes audioproblems not your amp. My first Marshall since the 80s. Doesnt got the same punch as an all tube 100w head with an 4x12" cab, but that wasnt expected. The GB128 is one of my favorite Eminence speakers. Loud and lively, and it sounds like a great match with the Classic 30 which, although a good solid tone, is a little 'plain' and could use a little extra zing. Sounds like the GB128 offers that.
