Indy Dev who likes to have fun and still plays games. my project i am working on at the moment is a spacey type game like Elite Dangerous. I use Unity. I do this for fun but will publish this when it is in a fit state as a demo first and see if there is a demand, if not ill just develop it for me and friends. I will try and post updates as quickly as i can but i work full time so can take me some time to post something of worth or note to the project. so drop by say high. I might do some live dev sessions I dont care about likes, subs or if people care. i am making this to be fun for me.
Project-43 FPS VR
This is a complete rebuild of what i have done, I have updated it to Unity 6, I am starting to build the mission game manager for missions. In this video you will see me doing on of the missions where i have to release pressure valves. there is a bit of other stuff where you can see some of the guns, the ammo spawners too and some door stuff.

2d Version of Turrets

This is a 2d Version of the VR i uploaded yesterday, so this will work for both at the moment, but developing VR is the primary goal first 2D second.

I started to make some cockpit interactions tools Joystick Sliders Dials I managed to get the Joystick working as in grabbing, i need to write a script so it will control the ship but ill start to look at this next week. First thing first there is not sound because the sound is in the VR head set, i have some new software which should fix this but not had the time to set it up. This is the second frame work i am looking at for the FPS, this offers a lot out of the box, it has a few issues, but you cant expect them a frame work to make your game. a little more incite into some of the space features created and still Work in progress, the video might be choppy as the VR power was almost out, it shows mining, missiles, fixed lasers and gimbal lasers based on where you look

So the project is not just space ship, it also has space legs, this idea is not new for me but the content side i have not really put much though into it. I am also testing out other frameworks too this is the XRI interaction tool kit which i think is free, the level i am using is a halfway of what they provide as a look at what is in the frame work and the level with the ship and spacey bits, ...

What is this?
it is the FPS part of the space game i am making, this is very early on for this, only been developing the FPS part for a few months now but it is moving along, ill be doing an update today with a video how it is at the moment

it will be VR at first, to make it 2d requires all of the interactions to be re-written which will take some time, to do 2d is a lot simpler but more to test and debug. on a personal note VR for the flying part takes the experience of flying to another level.

Pretty cool! Why don't you start a fund campaign to launch it faster?
well i have thought about this, but not yet, i want to release a demo first or a few and see the uptake. there is also the uncertainty of a fund and i dont want to take that on unless there is a a good indicator it will be wanted. just somethings does not sit right with me about taking money off of people and it not get fully delivered.

Looks fantastic. What are you going for here? Hard sci-fi? Action space shooter? Some of the ships "look realistic" with the spin sections and such, others look a bit more typical sci-fi. No worries, just curious.
@FunkThompson well it will be a spacey shooter with fps parts. I wrote a back story. It will be mutli player but as an indy I am thinking of first host your own server. But move to something more sand boxy if the cash is there to invest in the backend infra

I cant really comment on it, the last time i played it was about 5 years ago. i hear there are lots of good things these days, i understand your frustration about how long it has taken them so far. My project wont be anything as polished as theirs lol i dont have 500 mil to blow.
@@johnsmart1894 Not everything needs or should be at SC's level. For very obvious reasons. I love, LOVE what CIG are doing, but it has its problems and shortcomings. That said, how much work is being done on internals for the ships in your game? Will there be much gameplay "out of the cockpit?"
Hi, there will be gameplay out of the cockpit on legs. looking at scenarios for this, i want to avoid ED exploration if i can though, i mean i spent 9 months out in the black in ED and i worked it out you do 9 things, just 9 things in the cockpit, 9 things in the SRV and 9 things now on foot since space legs. not saying something like that wont be there as anything is possible but do i want to spend a few months designing something so boring. i will be doing flying stuff first and add bits to FPS as i go. just have to remember i am one guy, development is not hard but slow.
@@johnsmart1894 Fair. EVA repairs, maybe some derelicts / wrecks to search, sure. Short and to the point would be my recommendation for such, especially for VR.

Are these the same spaceship assets that Spacebourne 2 used? The flight model looks very good btw
not sure if spacebourne used them, they are from a artist called CGPitbull he makes some awesome stuff
nice work, but maybe if you plan to get this as game later , just announce something bigger don't burn it all on short nonsense videos and get a name for it so ppl can follow your work. maybe one day you will get this project finished good luck.
I am building a site where ill post updates on it. although this project is indy, it will be released in some state and ill just refine it as i go.

i can do the visuals of SC, but i suppose will be like ED but not as big, i am still deciding on how i am going to make the star systems work.
Is this game VR oriented? We need more information about the gameplay and scope.

@@johnsmart1894 I don't want to be judgemental but the vast majority of players are not using VR. Maybe you should reconsider. Getting the majority of players interested and buying your game would help you more I think. But it's your decision.
@hariszark7396 I understand what you mean but VR it is. I am not doing this for money just fun, 2D is possible but later. To do both is a GUI that works in both screen space and world space but the VR interactions and 2d interactions would need to be separate systems eg you pick up a grenade and throw it, VR is grab interactions in 2d it is more of a event key pressed so play the animation and through object. It is possible just not on the map at the mo. Maybe later

what reference did you use to set up your flight model to support 6 degrees of freedom? I'm just starting to work on my own project, and could use some guiding help. did you rely on c++ scripting , or did you use blueprints? for reference, I'm using unreal 5.
this is unity so i am using their version of physics, so a ridge body gets force applied depending on the input. unfortunately i don't know enough about UE5 to be able to help you on that one. in unity we use C#

Thanks but i have to be truthful i did not make the assets i just mod them i pay for them i just put it together in the project with a bit of coding.
Flying looks better than the so call best flight sim ever.
Hi Cozzyhane, the flying is a script i wrote that can be changed to any spacy ship type thing you want and give it, its own characteristic, I am thinking of publishing the build of the video but there is not a lot you can do with that ship as i have only just started building the systems from it. just so you know even though this is VR it is use mouse and keyboard to fly at the mo while i work on the virtual HOTAS system which is what i am working on now.
@@johnsmart1894 Looks good, just a bit simplistic right now I would imagine. And if going full VR I'd guess it always will be, by necessity.
well for me when building functions for things it is best to do them small and test. so far the features i have put in i have a plan for them, there are many more but i can add them as i go. it is early in the project at the moment but i will be aiming to release bits of it so people can try and play around. i know it wont be everyones cup of tea but i am not doing it for profit just a bit of fun.
Those designs look really nice. Solo project? Edit: I was gonna mention one of them looks possibly inspired by the Federal Corvette. Saw you do play Elite on your channel. Really cool!
Hi, i cant take credit for those ships i buy them from artists, although i may mod them in blender so it fits the idea in my head. Game Dev has many disciplines, i can do the art work but as i am doing everything i just have to use the wallet dev to get me things i want sometimes. you are right though some of the ships you can see where the artists got the idea from.

@@johnsmart1894 That's great, I suggest you to make a Website for your game so that people can subscribe to any updates that you may release regarding your progress. That's a great way to build a community.

@@johnsmart1894 how is the gameplay supposed to look like? I run a gaming community and we are into space games and have been looking for something new. We went back and looked at space engineers and this reminded me of it although this looks a lot better visually. Can I read about it somewhere or do you have time to describe what it’s about?
At the mo i am building a site to go over the project and where it will be going from a function point of view. The site is not ready as of yet and i am not working on this full time as I do something else. But in time it will be out. I have written a back story, so some lore, what i would like to do is create scenarios that fit in to that lore. I don't want to create a elite type of feel where some guys poor years of their life in to finding something that is not going to happen but fun scenarios for friends to play. it is a bit early on how i am going to do that. but i tend to develop small chunks at a time. my focus is creating the functions of the ships and player at the moment. Game dev is not hard but slow especially when you are a one man team. it is going to take time, but i plan to release some demos for people to play around with. the one thing i am sure of this is for VR first 2d second.

@@johnsmart1894 i guess that would depend. I have no context of what you are doing with the space setting. Though “Out of Reach” seems relevant because it symbolises the vastness of space.

@metalheadmobster at some point you will be able to control the larger ships. I am planning the scenario on how it will work. Single player something like RTS...maybe Multilayer well this is why maybe transferring data from different game types can be tricky to keep everything in sync but everything can be solved in time

swarmm1 i tried to get one once i knew what we was going to fight but there was none on the market, to be fair i thought we was going to just yolo the fleet for fun but the extra support we got turned the tide, And was good for everyone to turn up for a fair fight, the first time i ever saw that in eve!!!
