My original battery finally quit after 8.5 years. I thought spring 2023 it was done but I got some fresh battery acid across state line.. can't even buy it in this state far as I can tell. For $7 i got another year and a half. Anyway I couldn't get any more out of it so I replaced the battery. I could see corrosion in the cable ends so even though it had a fresh battery it took about 3 tries to start the mower. So today I finally replaced the cable and found out there's wires 12 ways to Sunday going in to the cable. On mine anyway. So when it wouldn't start i had to start tracing wires and see why i wasn't getting juice. I figured out on mine the wire i missed was kinda hidden at the bottom. I didn't remove the old cable that's fastened 43 places I'd imagine for liability purposes but I missed one tie in and that one went to the thingamajig that quit 3 years ago out in the middle of the lawn and I went to the house that day and found out it was obsolete and figured out how to wire around it that day but this day i forgot it. Now it starts every time. If it won't start there's a wire somewhere fastened to a thingmajig that was a really good idea when it was new but since there's no way to replace it everyone just takes their ballcap off, covers their heart, looks around and says, "Yeah, it was a good idea" as they throw some dirt over it to cover it up. Mine has an extra cable now that's divorced from everything except the 43 places it's fastened for liability purposes.

I literally just switched out the belt in 10 minutes without having to take the deck apart. Do you really think they would make it that difficult to change a belt?

Just a note for those who pre fill their fuel filters: The big hole on the top of the filter is the clean side, so if you prefill make damned sure you have good clean fuel, or cover that big hole and fill through the smaller outside holes. I've seen guys prefill using the sediment bowl drain, putting a bunch of shit on the clean side of the filter, and setting themselves up for a very expensive failure later.

I did my first oil change on the Subaru with the drain plug snug, a couple days later I noted a tiny leak from the drain plug, I brought out the torque wrench and did the plug to spec (30ft./lbs) and I haven’t had a leak since. 30ft./lbs is significantly more substantial than most people’s snug and then some. Moral of the story pull out the torque wrench

    • @hendersonequipment

You don't have to use needle-nose pliers to remove the spark plugs. All you do is cut a couple two or three strips of tape like electrical tape or whatever you have and stick them inside the walls of the socket and it will grip the spark plug just like a spark plug socket.
