      @CrunchyFern 6 днів тому

      For smaller tanks internal filters tent to work best and I gotta say I’m not very experienced with those. You could maybe go for something like a sicce micron or something from the Fluval U series. Hope this helps!

  • @ntayjohnson
    @ntayjohnson 6 днів тому

    Sorry if you answered this somewhere already, but did you not need to seal any of the foam parts? I’ve seen a lot online about people insisting on using drylok over the parts they build with expanding and blocks of foam, but now I’m wondering if it’s actually necessary?

    • @CrunchyFern
      @CrunchyFern 6 днів тому

      @@ntayjohnson as far as I understand the drylok is purely an aesthetic choice. XPS foam and (some) sprayfoams are completely fine to use in your aquarium. When buying the spray foam go for something that’s marketed as being pond safe or aquarium safe and you’ll be fine.

    When making a pond this size you don’t have to have a big filter and water pump or waterfall… you can honestly just use a sponge filter that they sell at PetSmart. Sponge filters just hook up to an air line and then you drop it in the water. If you ever want to clean the sponge filter just take it out and squeeze the dirtiness out in a bucket of water and then drop right back in the pond. This is the easiest and best method if you have fish breeding in your pond

    • @CrunchyFern
      @CrunchyFern 9 днів тому

      A sponge filter for a pond is crazy. Never seen them being used on anything above 200L. Good tip tho!

    Howdy! String algae is an uncontrollable pest! I tried everything, but nothing works well for it. UNTIL...the aquarium lady said just dissolve rock salt in a container, and add to the water. She assured me goldfish, and all the plants will not be affected. I was terrified, but tried it as I was so desperate w the algae. Yahoo! It works. Add about 2tblspns for yr size pond, then teaspoonful every few days til the algae disappears. (Dissolved first.) Otherwise, make a sand filter. David Pagan Butler has a video on how to construct them, and how they work. (Easy and cheap to make.) I’ve got one in each outdoor pond, and no longer need to salt the water. Ponds are crystal clear all yr round. LouiseAustralia 🦘

    There is a way to kill this type of algae that I learned from the aquarium hobby.. Kill the light and the algae will die. So cover the tank for 3 to 4 days or maybe a week so that no light comes in.. Don't worry, the bacteria or the fish will not die.. You end up with the remains of the algae that can be easily removed or left for the fish to eat or the bacteria to break down.

    • @CrunchyFern
      @CrunchyFern 27 днів тому

      Thank you for the feedback! I’m familiar with the blackout technique. It’s easy enough to in an aquarium, but a bit more difficult for a pond. Either way the product shown in the video did the trick and I got rid of the algae.
