Big facts brother. The best thing I did when I decided to get clean and as much it hurt was delete every single contact that was able or uses to get what I need or cut people close to me off. For us recovery folks we need all aspecs around us to be modified to our environment that we would like to have.

That guy that said 12 step people say they're dry drunk or white knuckling it about people who just stop. Don't put your 12 step hate on us. He is bashing 12 step people. If it works for him great. But for this recovering Alcoholic... Im with Dino. If I'm still kicking the dog, lying, cheating and stealing... I'm not recovering. So yeah I'm a chronic real alcoholic. If I could have stopped by myself I would have. My Soul had a huge hole in it and The 12 steps together with my connection with my Higher Power and the relationships I've made in The Rooms have made a huge difference. I am a better Woman than I was when I walked in my first meeting. His message isn't for us kind of people.

To me this guy is promoting spontaneous recovery is like making a choice to not drink or drug, completely ignoring the disease component of addition. The disease is real and he makes it all sound like a moral decision! He’s over simplifying the disease in my opinion.

Is it more important to be able to say that you’re sober, or to be able to say that you’re healing? I hope that deciding to, or being able to, spontaneously recover means that a person has decided to spontaneously work on themselves to be a better human too. Can’t treat a symptom without treating a cause. As always, grateful for being able to get my weekly therapy from you guys 😂

Excellent show. I heard so many great things. I’ve been sober for 30 years and I go to meetings now for the same reason I went in the beginning, which is to sit among people who are likeminded & to remember where I came from & where I am now. I have a strong spiritual aspect to my program because I once read “We surrender in the darkness. “ I surrendered in the darkness of my life and the darkness of my soul. Once I did that an opening was created & I was able to start reconnecting with the God of my understanding. I now have a partnership with my Higher Power in all aspects of my life.

One line I hear a lot that I absolutely hate is “Meeting makers make it”. Meeting makers only make meetings, sponsorship and stepwork are the meat and potatoes. If this crackhead only hit meetings I wouldn’t be who I am today. What good is it to be sober and still let the demons twist my brain. Love you guys, keep on keepn on. Love what Matt said about “how could things be okay when you’ve done what you’ve done in life?” It’s so easy to convince ourselves we are the worst monsters in the world because of what we’ve done. But we are all just human and all we do is make mistakes and learn from them. It’s never too late to become a “good person” or who you want to be!

Great podcast. Crazy how we all have some form of trauma and don’t realize it until something comes up that brings us right back to that moment. Your podcast makes me realize that you don’t have to be in recovery to use these steps to help yourself!! Keep up the great work. Your # 1 fan.

Feeling like your trauma isn’t “bad enough” to get help for or not deserving of that help… man that little voice in our head loves to beat us up and lie to us. Thanks for this one.
