    Motor oil is designed not to burn. If you want a mixture, put 10% by weight oil or vaseline into the wax. than saturate the pads with the mixture.

  • @peterpiper487
    @peterpiper487 2 роки тому

    Just spread some vaseline petroleum jelly on cotton face pads and make a face pad sandwich. When you get ready to use it as a firestarter, just peel one pad back a bit and light it. Voila... a firestarter that will burn long enought to get a wood fire going. The simplest things are best.

    A watch would really help on cloudy day especially.

    Solar powered watch is long term thinking. And 'Deet' , a bug net mask is 2 bucks too. In the days of gold rush, people would burn down their houses just to get their nails. The hardest things to reproduce in the wild is a file and a saw blade. I've got two rat traps. One is none, and two is one.

  • @toml.8210

    The contaminants in the dirty oil made it hard to catch fire, but after it started vaporizing, it burned. In an important situation it would not be useful, so I would select the waxed pads. Have you tried to make a sandwich of a small blob ofVaseline between cotton pads, them seal it with wax? You'll need to make a mold for the one half, add the blob, then cover with a wet round.

    The idea of using motor oil scares me because I do not want to think of how bad that stuff is to the body after it has been burned and vaporized.

    Not sure where you are but I made about 70 cotton pads with a candle wax and 10% liquid paraffin, they burn for about 7 mins...or less paraffin for a longer burn time...they light first strike and the cost was about .70 cent aus for all of them...cheers.

    oil will start up with ferro rod, but you have to fluff it up real good and let a little bit of oil drain down back into the pad..

    Greetings from Bridgewater NS I never TRIED that stuff yet....here alot of us call it, Deer Moss but whatever. In summer months when its HOT & DRY....I go through the woods & gather up BAGS of birch Bark curls. That works good too, lots of oily resin in that. Next summer, I shall gather up some Deer Moss & give that a try. Thank you, my fellow maritimer 💯👌👍🤝

    I stumbled upon Clippers on Amazon a few years ago and haven't looked back. I was just looking on Amazon to see about new flints because 3 or 4 lighters flints blew out of the lighter and I'm on the last one. I do wish there was a way to tell the fuel levels though.

    bics arent half bad either. they are the longest lasting normal sized disposable lighters, work perfectly to the last drop of gas, and even then there is a bigger flint left than the normal refils. my favorite, by far, is the imco triplex, though. such an incredible piece of engineering!

  • @LostCaper
    @LostCaper 6 років тому

    We can go to school on this erosion problem. For future reference.... If you leave trees so that the space between tree tops are no further than 30 feet apart it helps protect the banks from erosion. Spacing the trees as such creates a beautiful view of the river and a shaded living space in the hot weather. Being what it is I seen people use geo-grid material and pack with big rocks. There is a place in Truro that sells that stuff I think the name is i-bird. Working around water ways has many rules and regulations as it relates to putting silt into the river so it would be best to check with the authorities. If you have a friend that is an engineer that might save you a money. Nice spot and thanks for sharing. Thanks and good luck.
