Framed Images of Snow Falling - Dillon Kondor [Ensemble 64.8]
Переглядів 59313 років тому
Dillon Kondor's "Framed Images of Snow Falling" (2010) is scored for four percussionists performing with an impressive battery of instruments traditionally known for their bombastic nature. However, rather than making use of their explosive qualities, Kondor explores the subtleties these instruments have to offer in order to capture the gentle, static, and unpredictable nature of snow. The resu...

    Oh, don't worry, Steve Reich is not where my primary cultural aggression lies. I'm not here to tell you that Bullet for my Valentine or Taylor Swift are the salvation and redemption of the utter devastation wreaked on humanity by corporate media. However, neither is Steve Reich. Don't worry, we're headed for some of the most brutal and thoughtless leadership the United States have ever experienced. I think Faulkner summed up the transition of the art world well, "not of the heart, but glands."

    Hahaha, to pick this to shudder to in comparison to what other examples of tactless thoughtless knumbing creations currently showing on the stage of western culture, you must have had your head in the sand. What are the kids watching and listening to, and how is this having an effect on the creations put out once they mature and take the lead?

    Honestly that's usually how it goes at universities, in my experience. The people who go to concerts at universities are usually into music themselves, so they're there to listen, and not just to make themselves look sophisticated, as you sometimes find at bigger concert halls.

    When I last visited von Huene in Hamburg in 1992 he was trying to acquire the Drum from the Exploratorium, but that's where my trail ends. The program disk made one revolution in 7.5 seconds, and on each revolution a new track of 32 parallel tracks was enabled or disabled. Each of the three pieces had a different algorithm for adding and removing tracks from activation of the 32 beaters, which were operated pneumatically.

  • @raymondweisling722
    @raymondweisling722 11 років тому

    Actually. this piece was composed for the mechanical drum, but was too complex to work into the way the drum program was stored--on an optical disk about 60 cm in diameter. So this exists only as a quartet. There were three other Tenney works made for the Drum, only one playable by musicians (Wake for Charles Ives). The other two were more mathematical processes, Popcorn Effect and Tempest. I designed the electronic control systems for von Huene and Tenney for the Drum.

    Horrible performance... and yes, this piece is very difficult to play clean, but these guy suck wind.
