Floating the Lower Ouachita River from Remmel Dam to Rockport(Malvern)

Floating the Lower Ouachita River from Remmel Dam to Rockport (Malvern) is a great way to get on the water in the dead heat of Summer when all the other float rivers are dry. Remmel Dam is the one that creates Lake Catherine, between Malvern and Hot Springs, AR. Water is released from the Dam nearly every weekend (and often weekdays too), giving paddlers and tubers plenty of water and flow to h...
Floating War Eagle Creek From Hwy 23 to Hwy 45

Floating War Eagle Creek from Hwy 23 to Hwy 45 is a 13.5-mile float through a beautiful area of Madison County, AR. The duration of this float depends on the flow of the river. For our float, the Hwy 45 gauge read 2.5 ft. At this level, we had pretty good flow. We finished the float in a total of around 7.5 hours. It's a long day float but riverbank camping is allowed, so it would be a good ove...

Hiking to Glory Hole Falls in the Arkansas Ozarks

    • @AROwnBackyard
      @AROwnBackyard 16 днів тому

      @mattttyp6126 - first thing...this section of the river is currently(as of 8/25/24) floatable, but pretty low. So don't expect the same kind of flow that you see in this video. But to answer your question, I paid Wild Bill's to shuttle my truck to Rush and have it waiting for me. So I drove to Maumee and unloaded, and got on the river. Then Wild Bill's picked up my truck and drove it to Rush, and hid my keys.

    A good friend and I made that float every year for 20 years. We loved it for the fishing, scenery, and lack of day-trippers. Clabber Creek is a much easier float when the water is up, otherwise it has lots of big boulders that you have to dodge. Taking out downriver on the White was a good move. @GatewoodBrown thank you my friend! Glad you like it. Not sure if I mentioned it, but you can overnight this river. Just check with the local outfitters on acceptable private property areas for camping. Also, I have a video coming up soon that you're gonna like. Rush to the White River on the Buffalo (2-nighter), and featuring the Remote Designs 60L Dry Duffel!

      @@AROwnBackyard this is great river beta! I see you went at 5.9’, is that where you like to see the guage? Those bluffs look 80% the way there with out all of the Buffalo filming restrictions! We did Ponca to Pruitt last weekend and loved it. Can’t wait to watch your film too!

    • @AROwnBackyard
      @AROwnBackyard 4 місяці тому

      @@GatewoodBrown oh man, Ponca to Pruitt is probably my favorite stretch! Especially Ponca to Kyle's Landing. But I'm not familiar with the filming restrictions you mentioned. What's that? Do you mean for drones? As for the King's....I would say 5.5 to 6.0 for THIS section. As the level decreases, there are stretches further down river that are fine. I've not done those yet though. From what I understand, this section and maybe the section after this, are the most scenic.

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown 4 місяці тому

      @@AROwnBackyard thanks man I’ll keep those flow rates in mind. It goes beyond drones but because it’s a national park you have to get a bunch of permits if the video you’re making ends up on UA-cam. Very, very dumb. They basically made commercial filming regulations apply to anyone posting to social media

    • @AROwnBackyard
      @AROwnBackyard 4 місяці тому

      @@GatewoodBrown whaaaaaat???? Man, I've never heard of those regulations! I've got quite a few videos of the Buffalo River on my channel. I'm going to ask around to some of my outdoors blogging friends on that. Also, I don't think it is a National Park just yet. Still just a National River, to my knowledge. They are working on National Park status though. I could be way behind on that, but I think that's right.

      It's definitely in my top 3 list! It's one you have to watch and be ready to go when it hits 3 ft. It drains fast. But if you can catch it, it's soooo worth it.

      Thank you! I appreciate that! And yes, I have actually seen 3 different sasquatch while out hiking. Verified by their affinity for Jack Links jerky. 😂. That's why I always carry some with me. I thought I had met a 4th. But when he declined the Jack Links, I soon discovered he was just a hairy vagrant hillbilly that got lost near Treat. 😂😂
