True Blue Kiwi Hunting
New Zealand
Приєднався 27 кві 2018
Head out on an epic adventure with Blue Horton and his mates as they share their favourite places in the heart of the New Zealand back country.
In February 2021, Blue passed away at home following a shock diagnosis of an aggressive illness. He was surrounded by his family, knowing he was loved and would be sorely missed. Blue was an adoring husband, amazing Dad, incredible Grandad, loved father-in law, and a cherished brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, friend and mentor to many.
A mighty totara has fallen, and his loss will leave an immense hole. Blue was a legendary outdoorsman with a lifelong love of animals and hunting, and he took great enjoyment in sharing his knowledge, skills and passion for the outdoors with the world. It is our hope that his stories will bring a smile to your face, and pass on the simple joys of spending time in nature and watching the world around you.
Rest in Peace, Blue. We'll raise a glass of fireball to you and see you out there in the hills

Although some of us spend more time looking through a viewfinder than a scope ...

Coming across the old telephone line that connected Puysegur Point...

I hunt lake Alexandra up the avon on my father in laws burney n ur videos remind me of it. Keep it up
I spent a fair bit of time in Dusky Sound in the 1970's and can recall sitting on the peak at the seaward end of the Dark Cloud Range looking down Chalky and just able to make out Puysegur at least 50km in the distance. It was blowing like mad and every now and then you could see this faint white line in the sea suddenly get larger and thicker. It took me a little while to work out we were seeing the ocean crashing into the rocks off the Point in huge Southern Ocean swells. I could see this route on the map and always had an idle dream to do it, but was conscious of how challenging it would be even when I was young and fit. So yes I am very impressed to see this. Well done team! And yes the feeling when the chopper swings off and you are left contemplating how serious this is going to be.
Good on ya mate well done on that stag 14? Some great footage!

Amazing, awesome, epic,brilliant, beautiful, inspirational.
Great video and record of your trip. Great memories you will cherish and relive over a few whiskies I'm sure. I solo kayaked this coast last year; in fact right through Fiordland (Orepuki to Milford Sound) and have often thought of tramping the route you took. You may well have inspired me.
Great to see you guys, Clint and I fish the north side of the Arawhata mouth.
I’d love to come down and help clear out those Bennett wallabies. I’m shooting a few of the smaller Dama up here, which are spreading big time.
A 22. And 17. In the head or bottom neck does better than that you should get one
I assume wallaby's are blind and cannot see you in your Hi-Viz vests...lol
very nice wish i was there
I did this trip but the opposite way and solo in 2008. The waitutu forest is a very special place. Great stuff. Except I was more on the coast from boat harbour to the Wilson river then on to sealers bay one and two
Worked around there as a NZFS culler in the early 60's....good to see you out there doing it mate.
Great vid gent's in fantastic country, never hunted south Island myself so thanks for sharing. I was impressed with your patience and restraint, cheers.
Not even allowed to white bait off your boat
One for some another rule for others huh
Not even allowed to white bait off your boat Fark those ones
One rule for some another rule others huh
Some very good camera work on the moving animals gentlemen.
Like everyone else is saying, so good to see you taking the kids out and exposing them to our wonderful backcountry and give them a vested interest in it as future voters and taxpayers. As a teenager in the late 70s there were very few animals out in the open due to the intense helicopter hunting so it's great that the kids are able to experience the thrill of seeing an animal from a long way off and the anticipation that comes from the stalk into it.
bit of a shame none of them were eaten, wallaby meat tastes bloody good, so versatile.
Great vid , Cheers Guys 👍
Nice work
Hey I’m looking to hunt some feral sheep in that area, can u point me to some blocks that might have em?
R.I.P Blue, You will be missed here on youtube, old school is the best school.😢
incredible adventure, thanks for sharing
When I live in oz I found shooting Roos in the head in the spotlight killed then on the spot .. big Reds grey's ..wallabies are protected soo couldn't shoot them but refs and grey's all day then sell the meat for pet food
Thank you for your reply I never got to know his family and I missed out on seeing him when I used to go attack in Collingwood I now live in Australia but my wife sister lived in Takaka and Neal and Donna Christie were great friendsMy wife sister Is Colleen Jacarri
When we were teenagers are used to hunt with blue and his brother and father the sad thing happened a few weeks ago blue passed away I thought that people should know he was always so happy go lucky he never had a sad face it was always smilingThe cheeky smile I will never forget rest in peace blue love Tony
Hey Tony, thanks for sharing that, we all miss Blue heaps. We still had a vid or two in the editing pile, which he hoped would be finished up, so I'm hoping that over the coming weeks I'll finish them off on my own, to let his followers know what had happened. I still have access to our account but always took a backseat in the comments while he told the story, cos he was so good at telling it. I'm gonna miss him so much, he was an absolute legend, and an incredible Dad. The hole his absence leaves in our lives is one our family is going to have to learn to navigate, so for now I prefer to remember him out striding out in the hills that he loved, off on another epic adventure. 💔 Jess (Blue's daughter)
@@truebluekiwihunting9476 Blues vids were the first vids I watched that inspired me to make my own hunting channel, he was humble and to the point, it was always good getting positive encouragement from him in regards to my own videos, His videos were always good to watch, he had the editing side of things sorted ,, I was hoping to meet him someday, but I quess that will have to wait a while,,,, Its a good thing to have these vids as memorys,,hopefully you have all the origanals stored away somwhere for your future generations, your dad was a top bloke, A true old school legend, and thats what I and Im sure most of his viewers admired about him.
Wow I have walked to the waitutu hut from the lodge .it to was raining and we carryed all our wetsuits in haha never again but the Cray's were huge!
Big trip boys well done
Interested to know if the deer numbers are coming back after the 1080. Was this block one of the 1080 blocks
Numbers are starting to come back. This wasn't poisoned in 2017 but due this year. Sometime between May and November.
@@truebluekiwihunting9476 what block was it?
It wasnt one of the poisoned blocks, but it look like they have an aerial 1080 program coming for the rest of the blocks this coming winter 2021. Bastards.
Hi Blue love your videos. Could you tell me which blocks these were?
The first block was the Lower Acheron, and the second block was the Chimney. There is some awesome hunting on the Molesworth, but you need to get high. Cattle on the lower 1/2 of the hill and deer on the top 1/2. If you're looking for a trophy stag, don't be tempted to shoot the first one you see.
@@truebluekiwihunting9476 cheers for the reply. Does the bottom Acheron block go both sides of the river? What is your opinion of the Makuratawhai block. I’m looking at going somewhere first week of feb. Chimney looked good but it’s fully booked. Any recommendations?
Lower Acheron is both sides of River. Makuratawai gets looked over fairly regularly by Hanmer hunters, but still worth a look, again get some altitude.
Good Day Blue, stopped by to wish you and your family and friend a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year mate, hope the 2021 is far better year for all of us that the old 2020.With best regards and respect,, Tony.
Thanks Tony same to you, I've had a fairly quiet spring as I ended up with pneumonia while whitebaiting. Been following your adventures tho, looks like you have had a ball. Stay safe and have a Merry christmas and happy new year. Regards Blue.
