      Thank youuuu!!! Congrats on the great wine buy. So 2020 is a full, solar vintage and the Chassagnes do need a while to mature. Id say, if it’s a village, give it another 5 years. For Premier Crus and Grand Crus, don’t touch it for the next 12 and then open a bottle to see what’s going on;)

    I wish you would upload more… I love your videos. I love Burgundy wines and love to travel there. Last year I was there. And this year I have opened some nice aged wines. For example 2004 Goutte D‘Or from Latour and 2004 and 2006 Chateau de Meursault 1er Cru… that were no lie, the best wines I have ever tasted. What is your opinion on aged Burgundy blancs? The 2004 was in perfect shape and I would love to hear what you think about maximum aging potential. I have a 1993 Meursault Magnum bottle waiting.. I am very excited. Maybe you can do a video of very old wines from Burgundy? That would be interesting and exciting I think. Greetings from Germany

      Hey greetings back to Germany! Thanks for the comment, love it. Ok so for me, I need to be in the mood for old Burgundy whites. Sometimes it’s a huge craving, for special occasions, but most of the time I’m happy with a Riesling from Mosel ;) Tasted 04 from Chassagne recently it was slightly over the top already 😒. I think Meursault lives a bit longer, since it’s richer, but I usually drink my white Burgundy within 10 - 15 years. But then again, I can only afford very modest wines (Village & Premier Cru). Hey let me know when you’re in Burgundy next time, you can visit me im Château de Pommard;)

      @@katialobun7035 Hey, I can totally understand why most people don't let their white Burgundy wines age quite so long. I still find them very interesting as they can bring out darker notes like hazelnut and still have very good acidity. Funnily enough, I wrote in my last message that I still have the 1993 Meursault. I opened it recently and, as I said, it was rather more intense but by no means over the top. For example, I was on a cellar tour at Chateau Meursault and the guide also said that he loves the rather younger aromas, the freshness, the bright fruit and the light use of wood in Meursault, which gives it this elegance, but he has also met many customers who want somewhat more intense notes. But you can be unlucky or lucky, but as you said Meursault is a bit more robust and long-lasting. Unfortunately, I've only just seen your message. I was actually in Meursault for three days in June this year and also a few times in Pommard. But this year it was the turn of the Jura wine region and I inspected Arbois and Chateau Chalon etc.. I would have loved to come by, but I'd love to next time. I'm jealous of your job! Best regards

      @@katialobun7035 Hey, unfortunately I've only just seen your comment. I was actually back in Burgundy this year in Meursault. And I've also been to Pommard a few times. I would definitely love to next time. Are you there for a limited time or are you working there for a longer period of time? I am very jealous of your job! To your message: I can absolutely understand that some people don't quite like the taste of a white Burgundy that has been aged for longer. For example, I was on a cellar tour of the Chateau de Meursault and spoke to the guide, who said that he personally prefers the younger, fresher fruity and light wood aromas of Meursault to the intense hazelnut aromas and deep butter notes that come with ageing. Personally, I find the aged notes very exciting, i.e. more exciting than the young ones. I actually had the 1993 Meursault mentioned in the comment the other day and I thought it was very good and not yet overdue. I was very impressed and find the deep, complex flavors that emerge with the mounting very very exciting. It also has a lively acidity. But, as always, that's a matter of taste. And as you said, Meursault is a very storable wine and you can be lucky or unlucky. In any case, thank you very much for your reply. I was very pleased! Best wishes from Germany. Superbe revue, thanks a lot. And a nice plea for cellar aging : yes, a passion for these wines requires a good bunch of patience… or to have a good cellar : simply, with a yearly rotation of a few (2-3, no more, because… €/$…, and also because there are a few other such wines other the world…) of them over a tenth of millesimes. The anecdote about ordering "un chardo, siouplait" ("a chardonnay, please") in a bistrot in Burgundy made me laugh ! I love your explanation of grape variety as a tool, thanks. Meursault was a revelation for me. I have had a few Montrachets before (Chassagne, Puligny, etc.) and they were the pinnacle of white Burgundies but this had it's own magical power. Does the yellow gold color depend on the vintage or maker? What makes more yellow color in chardonnay?

    • @katialobun7035
      @katialobun7035 9 місяців тому

      The color in Chardonnay wines intensifies with age. As a white wine is gradually oxidizing in a bottle it acquires this gold, honey like and even brown color. Red wine on the contrary loses color with age. Also color may intensify in white wines with a long contact with oak. Or if you leave the white wine in contact with it’s skins for a while. This would be a wine that we call orange. It also has an intense color depending on the grape variety.

    Loved your enthusiasm for the Mosel! To elaborate a bit on Van Volxem: The Mosel wine region consists of the rivers Mosel, Saar, Ruwer, of which the Saar is where Van Volxem is located. In 2007 the German wine law changed and the region on the labels changed from “Mosel-Saar-Ruwer” to only “Mosel”, to make it more consumer friendly but I think it’s more confusing… Also, Roman’s nickname in the (German) wine bubble is Niewo, far easier to pronounce 😄

    Meursault is by far my favorite White wine expression of all time. Thank you for this thoroughly charming and informative presentation. Thank you as well for identifying the saline-like minerality that gives this wine such unique character. 👏👍❤️

    I had my first Meursault last night and literally all I want to do is go find every bottle and hoard it. Chateau de Santenay Meursault 2018. Blew me away.
