This is fantastic content. I came here from one of Jason's earlier videos on the same topic. I find that I disqualify myself and say 'no' on other people's behalf ALL the time. I can only imagine that many others are doing the same thing. Cybersecurity is extremely competitive but I know if I follow these guidelines I will stand a much better chance than just spamming a general resume out. Good luck everyone.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! However, we still ran into a lot of problems! :) All 3 of my girls and I, the Noob coach, could not increase the memory. So for anyone else who might have this problem-you need to run the VMware as the administrator the first time you open it up. If you try to run it as admin and still can’t change the memory, you will need to uninstall, reinstall, and run as admin. Highlight Kali in the menu in the top left hand corner and it should let you manage and adjust the VM settings. Also, my daughter has a Mac and we had to install VM Fusion Player, which is free. Now everyone has a working VM and we are very excited!!

I keep getting an error that says "Couldn't open the output file for writing." Any idea how to fix this?

I'm interested in writing a Can-Bus program to display data.. however, the tricky part seems to be finding hardware that can easily be configured to filter messages of interest, so that the software doesn't have to do so much checking. Any recommendations? Peak USB PCAN? Ollie v1? For example, I'd like Standard Can Ids 0x40-0x4F go to Mailboxes 0-0xF.. or maybe even more complicated Acceptance Mask/Codes like only save to Mailbox5 when Can-Id 0x45 has Data Bytes 0 & 1 = 0x55AA. Do you know of any utility tool that might be useful to in creating filters? PSOC Creator, GH Lauszus/CANBusFilterMaskGenerator_py ?

Thanks for putting all this content online. I’m working back through the most recent to help myself understand what this is all about! My buddies keep encouraging me to join, but I can barely get through the first actual module. This gives me hope. Our Cyber Defense Club president said that this is totally different than what they learn in their degree plan, so I’m in good company starting at the beginning just like they did. 😊

Any high schoolers who see this, I was a teacher for a decade. If you are passionate about this, I encourage you to reach out to your teachers or even go to your principal to help you with resources on campus. If you put the spin of the honor this could bring your school, or start the club, etc. You just never know! There may be a teacher who would be willing to sponsor the club and the activity. 💜🖤 Now I’m coming in as a total newb, fresh Computer IT major back at my Alma Mater for a 3rd degree haha.

Base64 is also evenly divisible by 4. And, I believe that is because for every three characters of plaintext input, there are produced four base64 characters. If you are not getting correct decoded output, it may be because you only have odd number of characters and need to add the padding bit(s) (=). I could use some verification on this.
