Do you need a high end Strandberg??
And does the place of production matter?
Today I'll try to see what you get for paying extra and if the place of production matters, what you'd really get for paying a bit extra and how unique are these guitars.
I've tested guitars from Japan (Strandberg J7 Buckeye Burl), Korea (Strandberg OS-8) and Indonesia (Strandberg Singularity, Prog NX-7, Standard NX-8) and I think I have an answer to a few questions now.

Strandberg Boden Metal NX 8 Blood Red - Review

Yeah, it was supposed to be "yesterday" but as per ushe - it took me a while... lol. To explain myself, I'm in the middle of cooking a really damn cool video (biggest one in the review/tests category yet) so I got a bit distracted. Nonetheless here it is, a bit rough, raw and quite chaotic, but I hope it helps all of you who're currently looking at this nex NX-8. In my opinion it's still worth ...

C.P.E. Bach's Solfegietto in C-minor (1766) What's up everyone, been working on this one for a while now and I though I'll share it. As usual, no editing, raw camera audio and whatnot, it is what it is. I'll definitely still work on this one as it's really fun to play (maybe re-record it one day, who knows), but decided it's also time to work on some other pieces I had on my mind (also with pla...

Nevertheless I started working on some stuff with polish Strandberg Guitars distribution (wired tunes shop, link below) and I received this guitar for some tests. Paul Gilbert once said - tone is in the head-stock. It could have been John Paul though ...
Wasn't it Sean Paul though?
Or Gilbert Gottfried
Dude these are all gorgeous as fuck. However the sandblasted red and black with lundgrens is right up my alley
It sure is damn gorgeous, I couldn't put it down once I grabbed it for the first time. Suprisingly comfortable too, despite all these unusual things about it. I need to get the 8 string version for tests at least too (it was black/blue though).
This blue guitar is fucking beautiful in terms overall finish. And you yourself look good, Mate!
I need a low end Strandberg
Well, I admit they aren't cheap, but to be fair there's been a lot of discounts since they started having them in various stores across Europe. There's also a discount code to one of them on the community page of my channel. You could get an essential (for instance) using my code. It'll be probably less than a 1/3 of the price of these ones.
@@JakubDiegoTokaj Interesting. Thanks for the helpful review, and great playing.
if you're looking for a headless 6 string, EART makes great guitars around $380
@@dedompler I haven't heard of that company, gotta do some research I suppose. Wonder how's the quality control around that price range, if everything is good then that migh be good a deal.
Holy shit... I thought you were "just" a great guitar player by chance playing the guitar I ordered to finally learn on (3-4 years worth of AmEx points :-D). I had no idea you WROTE this! Can't put my finger on why, but I love it! Must have watched the Short like 30 times by now... Red Essential (last in EU!) arrives tomorrow, can't wait! Already liked you/your Song on Spotify. In time I want to learn to play at least the beginning of it! Looks like it would be great practice, too!
Man you have no idea how much I appreciate your comment, means the world to me! Shibito is my child and even though I have no idea how to promote it I'm working on a follow up, perhaps a full album this time. Someone wanting to learn my songs is the best thing in the world, it makes the whole process of working on it worth the effort :) And You'll be definitely happy with the essential! I'm hoping they'll release some more color variants (and a 7-string ;)). By the way - this song is in E-standard, however odd this might be nowadays :D
@@JakubDiegoTokaj Amp JUST arrived minutes ago! (THR30iiW) It feels a little like the Essential is made to be a "Strandberg gateway drug", that might be why they don't offer options like fanned frets, trem or 7-sting, because they want you spend "Strandberg Money" on those Extras once they have you hooked... :-D Thanks for mentioning the key, I'm just getting into those and the song being E-Standard actually helps me out massively, I hadn't even realized that yet! So I can attempt it at any time without having to change tuning! - I literally woke up humming it today, it's crazy... :-D It's called an "ear-worm" in Germany. ;-) I ordered TWO red Essentials by mistake, is there an easy way to choose the "better" of the two before returning the other one? (I couldn't find one in all of Europe for DAYS, then suddenly spotted 2 in AT and IT respectively... Ordered the cheaper one, got spooked when the listing changed to "sold out" and I hadn't heard anything 24 hours later. So I quickly bought the Austrian one, so I don't have to wait till February! - 5 Minutes later: Shipping confirmation from Italy... Turns out the "SOLD OUT" I saw was literally me buying their last one! :-D)
@@mcbrite Great you managed to get one! yeah it might be a 'gateway' guitar ;) I'd pick one that has the best fretwork (so no sharp edges etc) and the best neck (straight with no dips and stuff like that). So I'd just test whether you can set it up to comfortable action (comfortable for you) and see if it has any issues like extensive buzz or dead frets. I'm very glad you enjoy the track man! Hope you'll have as much fun playing it, it's really flattering that someone wants to learn my stuff!
@@JakubDiegoTokaj Thanks for the tips, will have a look! Setup was a breeze on guitar and amp and I even got the free Rocksmith running on the first try to check the audio path into the PC! I also figured out learning guitar without a strap is impossible for me... I can't hold up the neck AND hit ANYTHING on the Fretboard at the same time... :-D Coming later today along with a variety bag of picks, I can't wait to try! One feeling I love: I'm used to all kinds of video-gaming over the years... But ALL games are somewhat linear. When I had everything set up today I spent a few seconds thinking: "All done! Now you can do literally whatever you want... Just do basic grip stuff? Learn a easy song like Nirvana? Mess around with amp settings and listen what sounds good?" I love that feeling... It's all on me now! That's why I wanted the Essential so bad: I NEVER wanted to think: "Do I still suck or does the guitar suck now?" No, I SUCK... And I'll know I suck less once it starts sounding better! 🤣 There is something totally new and fresh about that for someone so into computers since he was 8 years old... 😂 Thanks again! I'm already noticing more and more stuff that makes your song actually a pretty good thing to aim for! You need a BUNCH of skills to make that work like you do in the short! I still have no idea how the "scream" sound at 0:21 is made and I must have been wondering that for 2 decades now... 😜
@@mcbrite that thing is a "pinch harmonic", just try to hit the string with your thumb and the pick at the same time. Have fun with your new adventure! ;)
Great overview!
Thanks! Glad you liked it, I'll try to step up with the overall quality in the future :) I invite you to check other videos when you have some spare time.
"It just came out" - To clarify, it did when I was recording it. Unfortunately it took me longer than I expected to get this video uploaded. And I know the light is fucked up here so... yeah, helped y'all out with figuring out the color didn't I?

Finally a Strandberg review that melts faces instead of the prog rock *pling plang skeeeErrooo thump plang*
@@Introverted100 hah, this comment made my day :D Thank you, I appreciate it a lot. I honestly feel these guitars could be appreciated more in extreme metal music, if it wasn't for the fact that there's so much of the prog/djent content with them. Not that it's bad, but I have to agree there's way less death metal content on these axes.
@JakubDiegoTokaj I'm definitely thinking of getting one of these guitars. I appreciate the review.
@@Introverted100 you'll be pleased with how good they are, I recently got myself another one. I'm also currently working on two new videos, maybe you'll find them helpful in your decision.
@JakubDiegoTokaj Very cool. I look forward to the new videos.
Not a huge fan of metal but this is crazy! Insane talent man!
Thanks man! Wish this song was mine, it's not though, so there's less talent here to be fair unfortunately :)
Man, your English is impeccable! Nice to see someone playing some DM riffs on these, most videos are djent which I don't play much, really interested in picking one of these up.
thanks man! doing my best, glad the language got noticed too :) I'm mostly into death metal so you can expect more of that here on my channel :) (perhaps you'd like to check my EP - Shibito "Audio Vandalism"). And djent is usually not my thing too., even though some players are killer and they definitely know their way around dialing the guitar tone.
oh and yeah, if you're into traditional 6-string guitars and don't really tune them that low (or plan to buy thicker strings) this one is definitely worth considering. I mostly use 7 and 8 strings, but I'd definitely go with essential if I wouldn't need that additional string.
@@JakubDiegoTokaj I will check it out man! Definitely, some amazing players in the djent space but not so great to listen to all the time for me. I have tried one Ibanez 7 String but couldn't really get used to it so the 6 actually suits me perfectly.
This is sick. Thank you for sharing.
thanks man! I'm going to post a full review of this axe soon (swamped with other work as for now, hence the delay). If it comes to music though - I invite you to check out my EP Shibito "Audio Vandalism" :)

Nice Sounds 🔝🔝🔝🔝
the guitar the fit and the jewelry ️🔥
You wouldn't believe me if I said it wasn't really 100% intentional, would you? :D I think I made these choices subconsiously when I got this axe for tests :D
@@JakubDiegoTokaj lol
did you played just by ear or did you get the tabs somewhere?... love your cover, sounds pretty neat! 👌🏻😮💨
Thanks man!! :) I did it 100% by ear. I was obsessed with this album (I still kinda am) and back in the day I used to sit down with all these tracks from Malice until I figured out how to play them. Now I probably would've added more downpicking in some parts of this track to be honest, sounds bit more brutal that way.
@@JakubDiegoTokaj damn, you're really good then... and yeah, I think this one is the best album from them too. I asked you because I'm learning to play the guitar right now and couldn't find this tab anywhere, but I hope someday I can play it by ear like you man, keep rocking hard!
@@orbitser if that helps in any way I'd suggest using software like transcribe. It helped me a lot by allowing to loop a part, slow it down if needed, and even remove drums or vocals to hear the details that are hard to catch otherwise. And the other tip, a ton of the stuff they play on this album is in phrygian dominant scale (mostly in B) or harmonic minor and some diminished stuff. I was considering doing a lesson on some of these songs as I got a few questions regarding these songs, and the band hasn't released any tabs yet.
@@orbitser And yes, definitely their best release, I like all of them though. But malice is the strongest one and simply has no weak tracks imho.

Jesus dude!!! You wrote that song??? It’s fckn awesome! Great mixing/production too. You’ve sold me on this boden essential. I know it’s got some nice clean tones and you’ve just showed it kills with balls to the wall riffage too 👊🏻
@@alee7275Thank you so much Man! yup, that's my child called Shibito. So far I have three tracks on the EP (available everywhere) but I'm working on more and I'm hoping to record and start releasing some stuff in the coming months. i fucking love this album and people STILL do covers , TYSM ur a beast
thanks man! I actually thought about doing the whole album as I've learned almost everything. Right now I'm contemplating on doing "as good as dead" too at least. This record is such a gem
Nice! How’s the color in person? Looks a lot more orange compared to your shirt.
It's really red, not like the essential though, this one is more metallic (bit more glossy). I guess I'll film a short review as well.
@@JakubDiegoTokaj a review without any filters altering the color would be greatly appreciated. I've waited long for a red 8 string strandberg, but still not sure about this one
@@naihanke the only color altering thing going on here is a little vignete (edges). But it's hard to capture this color on a video or photo. Nonetheless I've filmed a short review and I'll upload it soon, stay tuned :)
Is this digital? Where are you getting this tone from?
@@Ladd-f6m Axe FX, I made some patches of my own
Awesome dude! You are flawless with those sweeps!
thanks man! actually this one is a tiny bit from a solo section in a song "Agonistes" which I recorded for my instrumental thing called Shibito. I invite you to check it out! :) I poured a lot of work and love into it.
@JakubDiegoTokaj WOW! dude! That is some heavy sh#"! That is so sick! I'll bet that did take a lot of work! How long did you work on it until you was happy with the end product?
@@Squirrel-i6uThank you so much man!! Honestly at this point I'd change a lot about that EP haha :D But seriously though, the riffs were written for quite a 'few' years before I finally sat my ass down to record it (a lot of anxiety made me procrastinate a lot). When I got the riffs recorded I decided to write the piano parts and orchestrations. When I got that down the solo was kind of a finishing touch. I had a rough vision in my mind of what I want there so I pressed record and improvised until I had something that felt 'right'. I wanted it to be an honest one take solo, so I guess there was a couple of tries before I decided to settle with this one. The thing that made it kinda weird was the time signature as the riff underneath is in 5/4. All in all I guess it came out decent enough not to feel ashamed of it.
@JakubDiegoTokaj Oh really?! Oh no, man, you have nothing to be ashamed of. It is a true masterpiece! And I totally understand the procrastination. I do the exact same thing. So you played all the instruments on it? Man, that's very inspiring to me because that's been my dream and vision is to write and record my own stuff like you have done here. I wish I had just a small amount of the talent that you have. How did you learn to achieve such a level of musicianship? I'm going to share this with my friends! I want them to hear this, especially my brother.
@@Squirrel-i6u Thank you for all your kind words, it means the world man! So I wrote everything on my own and programmed the stuff. I did play the piano back in the music school days, but now I don't play anything besides guitar. So everything you hear on the EP is programmed. The only 'real' thing is the guitar - that is 100% played by me. Fortunately as long as you know some theory and know which tools to use you can achieve your dream man. I write parts of all instruments in regular notation then export it to midi where I can program all the velocities to make it feel more 'human'. I don't really feel that talented to be honest, I appreciate your words a lot though, I just try my best and work a lot to make the music I'd enjoy myself. And then I share it here, although I still have to figure out how to promote it :D
👍
Nice video man! Sounds great and awesome play! Congrats
Thanks man! There'll be plenty more and I'll do my best to step up with the quality of these videos too! Stick around :)
Hey man thanks for the great Review. Regarding weight distribution, do you feel that there is any amount of neck Dive when playing it between your legs? I Got a Boden Essential and i Love that it it Just sits there in that position. With this being a 7 String Neck, and the Body Being chambered and Ash i worrie does that aspect suffer, or does the heavier Bridge Balance it Out?
@@LucaArtusaMusic not at all, to be fair I haven't experienced any weight distribution issues in Strandbergs yet (and I've managed to test plenty of them). And prog was so good I'm going to get myself a purple one.
@@JakubDiegoTokaj Thank you for your Insight. To be honest after a Few days i can already Tell the Essential is the Most ergonomic guitar ive ever played, but i also Play djent and wouldnt mind my 7 String Being ergonomic. Ole schecter is Killing my Back and hands lmao.
@@LucaArtusaMusic I owned (and still do) mostly Ibanez and shecters. Played most gigs in my life on these, especially on a shecter loomis which I own to this day. And those are absolutely great, I'll probably never get rid of them, but when it comes to ergonomics it's hard to beat what strandberg brings to the table. No guitar is perfect so obviously you might find something that could be improved upon, but that specific matter is almost perfect in their instruments. I compared strandberg to a headless Ibanez and it was such a huge difference (body shape and neck) that strandberg was an instant winner. I think you'd be very pleased with prog nx-7 in djent.
@@JakubDiegoTokaj They are nice guitars, but the 27 inch scale and the weight + with my model the Limited high fret Access do Wear on me over time. Thanks again for the Feedback.

thank you! :)))
Brilliant!
thanks man! Long live the Emperor!
Just got the same guitar and I agree it is a fantastic Strandberg. I was a little skeptical after having multiscale on my other Strandbergs (and I love it), but straight frets with the EndurNeck feel great. I am not as surprised as you on the stainless steel frets - I would expect stainless steel on a guitar around the $1000 mark. This is a lower grade steel than the higher end Strandbergs, but that is fine. I agree on the pickups - they are actually quite good. Not quite in the realm of the Suhr pickups that come on the Prog NX but very good nonetheless. It is also $1300 cheaper than the Prog NX, so some compromises are expected! The pickup switching is interesting - 1. Bridge Series Humbucking 2. Bridge Series Humbucking + Neck Outer Coil 3. (Bridge Series Humbucking + Neck Outer Coil in parallel) in series with Neck Inner Coil 4. Neck Inner Coil 5. Neck Series Humbucking BTW - Meranti is most like mahogany.
Very good 👌

What are some tips you can give for an aspiring local guitar teacher?
That's a quite difficult question, but I guess I'd say that first you need to ask yourself if you want to take responsibility for someone's passion and growth. It's a quite fragile thing and some people, especially kids, depend on you quite heavily. You kind of need to kindle their fire to push forward and not only to love the guitar but the music itself. The second thing is that you should always try to look on the things from your student's perspective. It's rather difficult to remember the struggle when you got something down long time ago. Especially if that thing came easy to you, it might not necessarily be easy for your students. That's really difficult but it's a constant part of teaching. It might wear you down a bit after a couple of years of doing it, as there's no universal truth to figuring out a way to help people you teach - everybody is different. So you gotta really love it, the reward is amazing as you see people develop the skills they wanted to obtain. And last tip - always look for stuff to work on, always be curious to try new things, try as many different genres as you can. If you're comfortable outside of your "main field" (genre) people will notice and appreciate that, and that's ultimately what matters when it comes to your income as well.
🔥
Now if they did an Essential with a tremolo, I could get very interested.
It would probably add like 200-300 dollars more to the price though which at that point might as well get a boden standard
Hope they come out with a 7-string Essential run.
Totally! Having a regular scale 7-string option in this price range is a great idea. Imho it's bound to happen, we just have to wait.

Cheers from the USA .. thanks for the video ... been looking at these. I have many guitars, but frankly some are not comfortable to play.
Thanks for the comment! What brands do you usually play? I have about 8 at this point, mostly Ibanez and Schecter. To be fair even though I wouldn't say that Strandberg is THE ultimate thing and the best possible instrument overall (It's a subjective matter at the end of the day anyway) I'd definitely say that when it comes to ergonomics and comfort they're top tier. Honestly with no bs - the ability to play it comfortably in many different positions, extremely low weight, the neck profile... this is something that I absolutely think every guitar player should at least consider.
@@JakubDiegoTokaj I mainly play Schecter and Charvels. Though I'm finding my 2 LtD-ESP are the most comfortable to play as they have a small neck radius. Been trying to evolve my playing into more leads and arpeggios so I think the larger radius will be better for that. Gotta sneak into a shop and try one. Also, I need to sell off two or three.
@@thomascoolberth2648 I mostly play Ibanez and Schecters and now lately Strandbergs. One thing all of them have in common is the radius so I have to agree with that it feels better for lead playing. One suprising thing is that my KM-7, which has a compound radius (12-16), sometimes feels like the most comfortable. Oddly enough bending on it is way more comfortable than on some Ibanez I have. Nevertheless you should be happy with Strandberg when it comes to those things, I'd recommend checking the prog and essential series. The first being the most premium and really comfortable (plus the trem) and essential due to its pricing, (so perhaps you wouldn't need to sell to much to get it).
wow, clicked for the guitar. but i stayed for the great playing!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it, I appreciate it a lot :) If by any chance you enjoyed the intro music, it's from an instrumental EP I recorded a while ago - Shibito "Audio Vandalism" availalbe here and on Spotify.
