HGTV 2004
🚀 Throwback to 2004 -- 20 years of 3D Rendering!🚀
Here's a glimpse of the cutting-edge 3D visualizations I created for HGTV's Designer's Challenge in 2004 (aired in 2006.) Working alongside luxury designer Jessica Nixon in Austin, Texas, we showcased "the latest in technology" with photorealistic renderings and animations. As an early adopter of 3D tech, I was one of the first designers to use 3d animated walkthroughs. It was an incredible experience to see HGTV showcase my work!
✨ This project not only highlighted my innovative approach but also set a new standard in design presentations, since proving that immersive visuals are a valuable part of any project.
Amazing how far technology has come since then! 🌟

Revit to Coohom Full Course

In this course you will learn to export your 3d model from Revit for rendering in Coohom. This course was originally a paid course within an edesign platform that utilized a Coohom API. That platform is no longer in business, and I am no longer teaching Revit, so I am releasing the course here for anyone that can benefit. Anytime during this video that you hear me mention the platform, I am act...

how can you hide a wall for rendering when a room is too small
Hi Cristina! In your camera settings, find the view clipper. It will cut off anything within a certain distance of the camera, allowing you to see past walls, etc that are in your way. You can adjust it to closer or farther, depending on what looks best for your scene.
A few years too late, but thank you. I found it very useful.
So glad you found it, and it helped you!!
Thanks for the video and looking forward to your next video.
It says I have to have a closed floor plan and won't render my imported file. Pleas advise, thank you for the great video
Hi there! It's been a while since I was in Coohom, but I believe what that means is that the exterior walls need to be connected somewhere to fully enclose the space. Even if there's not meant to be a wall in real life, the program will make you put one. If you need the space to be open, put the wall far away, out of camera. Does that make sense?

Very nice! Is the rendering done in Chief or did you use another software?
Thank you @cottagekeeper! All of the architectural modeling was done in Chief, then I rendered it in TwinMotion. :)
@@DesignerAnnilee Great work! Looking forward to the day when Chief will render this beautifully on a Mac.
@@cottagekeeper One of the things I love about Chief, they are always improving! Thanks again!
Thanks! I suppose the process would be a bit more complicated if you want to share with someone using another software. In my case I've just started to get familiar with CA Home Design Pro and my initial impressions are great. I'm not a professional user, but use the software for planning and documenting of renovation projects in our old family house. All initial blue prints were lost many years ago (the main building is about 125 years old). So far I've been using Live Home 3D Pro for Mac, and even though I appreciate how easy it is to use I've run into various limitations and wanted to try an alternative and stumbled on the Home Designer suite from Chief Architect.
You can export your drawings from chief to a 2d DWG file that you can open and edit in any program that will read a DWG. You can also export the 3d model to a file such as a DAE that you can open in another software. The 3d model won't retain the individual objects like walls, door, and windows, but it will all be editable as general geometry. I'm glad you found Chief Architect, it's a great program! Good luck with your historic home!
Thanks! Very useful info. Why not produce an overview course about Chief Architect on SkillShare or Udemy? I think that would be a great addition to any of these course platforms.
I actually do have a course for beginners! I host it myself through my website. :)
That's great. I will surely have a look at it@@DesignerAnnilee

Thank you👍

Sketchup shop is free or paid?
This is the paid version. It's now called SketchUp Go, it's $119 per year. You will need at least that version for importing file types other than SKP and using custom materials. Thank you!
Thank you!!
You're welcome! Hope it helps!
Hi quality content.
Thank you!
Cool design.
Great video! I just want to know if the same approach can be used when importing from Revit? I'm thinking of moving from Revit to chief and I want to move my custom Revit windows and Doors with me to Chief, how can I archive this please?
Thank you! To import items from Revit, you would first need to export from Redit as a 3d model file. Currently Chief Architect supports 3d file formats DWG, DXF, OBJ, 3DS, STL, SKP, DAE. To make the act as a door or window, go through the import process under File -> Import, then you can select from the options. By selecting the proper options, your new doors and windows will be properly placed into walls and will appear in the door & window dialogs and schedules.
@@DesignerAnnilee Thank you so much, I'll do that as soon I lay my hands on Chief. Thank you.
No sound?
Hi, I would like to have few courses, how does it work?
Hi Jalal! Thank you! I have the full pre recorded course, or I offer one on one training by the hour. You can take a look at my calendar and book a time convenient for you. Thank you! Https://DesignerAnnilee.com/training
Would you be kind to let me know which software was used for this animation?
This was done in TwimMotion. ☺️
@@DesignerAnnilee Thanks!

PLANTS !!! we need more plants in Chief - where's a good place to get more plants other than chief's library???
Yes! I agree, more plants! You can find a lot of really good ones for free on the Sketchup Warehouse. Search 3dsky, Turbosquid and CGtrader for free and paid models. For the most realistic, you can look at the Quixel Megascans. Poliigon has great plants too. There's also Globe Plants, they look good, but I haven't personally used them yet. :)
Thank you! Very helpful. This taught me what I needed, and then multiple different ways and the steps to take after! Thank you! Thank you!
I'm so glad it helped you!! Thank you so much for the comment!

So pretty.
Thank you! 😊
I want to take your course!
Hi Elizabeth! You can sign up for my course here designerannilee.com/courses/chief-architect-for-beginners/ Thank you!
Wow. How did you make the sky, water and fire move? Is that a Chief Architect feature or video editing trick?
The animations are rendered in Lumion. :)
Can you help me get certified in chief architect with this course?
My course is for beginners, and would be a great start on your way to certification!
Storybook?? Ehhhh, ......kinda.
What a stunning design, Annilee! Thanks for sharing your beautiful work with us. 😀

how can you make your model imported from chief as 3ds , come all grouped and full of geometry lines? I simply cannot import from chief properly.. please help
Which version of Sketchup are you using?
@@DesignerAnnilee I use sketchup 2020. I just figure it out today that using the plugin cleanup after importing solves the problem. Thank you
Thank you. Nice explain and briefly all important points.... with regard
Annilee! You are a GENIUS!!!! Thank you so much for making and sharing! <3
You're welcome!! <3
I love this 💕
Thank you!
😲 I was deleting the walls in chief and having to rebuild them in the platform because that's what I thought I needed to do. Didn't even think to lower all the walls
We did have to do that before, but the developers have updated the platform recently to allow for the whole project to be imported. It was a very exciting day for me when I discovered it, after trying for a year!
Omg!! That's a game changer
👏👏👏
🤩
Dreamy...
Thank you!
Here’s my house, now all I need is the money to build it
I'm so glad you like it! Thank you!
@@DesignerAnnilee I don’t just like it I love it...did you ever have a home in your mind and not able to see it in reality...this is my reality...now I have a picture to put to my home...so thank you for that
What if you're starting from scratch in coohom? Can you also import the walls? If I've created walls, doors, windows, etc., when you delete the walls in CA, the floors, ceiling heights, windows and doors disappear too. Seems like there'd be twice the amount of work if you have to recreate the shell in the platform.
You can import the walls, but it can actually take more time because of all the other fixes you then have to do. It really depends on the complexity of the project.
Fabulous video!
Thank you!
Thank you for this. For someone doing only 1 villa for myself in Europe; would you think HD Pro would be sufficient?
Hi Bruno! Yes, HD Pro would be a good choice for you. Then, if you like the work, and start doing more, you can always upgrade later. :)
This is so beautiful!
Thank you!!
Hi, what software is that?
I use several professional softwares to create my renderings. Are you a design professional?
Yes, Im landscape Architect Im using Chief Architect and Im curious how to make a great render.
