    Quantum stocks have a great future but are greatly overpriced. Even after the major pull back today. I said this when they shot through the roof. I will strengthen these positions, but they have to drop a major amount. As much as technology is growing. They will find there way and make there mark, but They are to rich for my blood right now. The U.S. Govrement is not going to let these guys fail. Like back in the day with a single processor could only do 1 thread at a time. The limitations will start shrinking as computational algorithms become far more in demand.

      Yes, it should be very interesting. I think big things come from this space. But just like airlines revolutionized travel and we're the worst investment, the same may happen to quantum computing. The businesses that use it will benefit (pharmaceuticals, etc).

    I like SCHD, but even as a recent retiree I don't like SCHD to the exclusion of all else. My favorite pairing is with SCHG (Schwab Growth). At least right now, those two funds have no overlap. Other growth-y funds such as QQQ typically have some overlap with SCHD but as long as it is small, any good growth fund is a nice complement to SCHD. I also sprinkle in some covered call funds to spice the combined yield, but I would keep the percentage to those relatively small and be prepared for that portion to seriously underperform down to almost nothing after a few years. By then hopefully the growth of the rest should make up for it.

    • @valuestockinvesting
      @valuestockinvesting День тому

      Yes, trying to avoid overlap is always an issue. I wold say that even if two funds don't have the same stocks, if they are both stock funds, they are all going down during a market downturn. So even though they don't overlap, it doesn't mean you are diversified.

      @@valuestockinvesting I wasn't talking about diversification. I was talking about capitalizing opportunity. Where is the most predictable opportunity? Stocks. Stocks do go down and stocks do go up. Mostly up. 🎉 If it makes you feel better, add a bit of gold and silver, maybe some real estate (I did), and if you believe in modern portfolio theory and the efficient market hypothesis maybe you add some bonds. No bonds for me - I'm happy with a couple of years worth of expenses in cash and t-bills alongside my stocks, as the dividends now pay my expenses. I wish I had figured this out 34 years ago when I started, but the last 22 years have worked out a lot better than the first 10. P.S. be sure to check out the correlation between assets in all market conditions. Turns out stocks like in SCHD are often inversely correlated to stocks like in SCHG. Whoa, whodda thunkit!

    Anyone interested in buying a business should ask themselves a minimum of four questions. Is this company's product going to be desired for many years to come? (the narrative). What does the company make per year? (the earnings). What can I liquidate it for? (think book value). How much does it cost? (think price). Chris is correct; narratives and price charts are only a part of the story. I used to screen companies by taking their Price less Book Value divided by Earnings. Price less Book Value is a measure of the risk in purchasing the stock for greater than you can liquidate its assets for. And dividing by earnings gives you the number of years needed to pay off your risk in said company. It's just a scratch of the surface but helps push you towards better valued stocks.

      I don't give individualized advice on here but the way I manage portfolios for all of my clients that are older is that I have a large amount of Treasuries and CDs. They pay fairly well, so there is no need to take huge amounts of risk for a few extra percentage points. It all depends on your situation. Many accounts I manage are retired cops who have pensions, so they can take on much more risk. If you are just getting SS, it's a different story.

    I split $40K between SCHG & SCHD on Monday, 25g-15d. I know I'll drive myself mad looking at it day to day, but I'm fairly new and you can't blame me right? I think I'll enjoy it as a hobby. I had $40K just sitting all year last year in a saving account and made $10 interest. I don't know anybody that's into investing and my parents didn't know shit except CDs. I got just as much cash invested as I do sitting around so I'm not stressing losing $500 today. Also got $2,000 in savings coming in every month. Not bad for loser that makes $5 an hour more than a McDonald's worker. (wink)

      In Berkshire Hathaway's 2000 annual letter, Buffett wrote, “In the insurance business, a dollar of float, if obtained at no cost, is worth far more than a dollar of net worth.” He's been widely known as being against using price-book. I look at the combined ratio and quality of management, as well as its assets. PE can still be used, especially if it has a large equity portfolio. • @DavidMartz-e2d
    @DavidMartz-e2d Місяць тому

    Spot on, but you're overlooking an important aspect. While the middle and upper middle classes have engaged this anti-consumer approach by seeking out alternatives, there are many who cannot afford the relatively small 'tax' that goes along with eating healthy. Millions are still eating this stuff. Some of the health costs are transferred to everyone else.

    • @valuestockinvesting
      @valuestockinvesting Місяць тому

      Eating healthy is so much cheaper. Fast food and junk food is extremely expensive. In the morning I eat oatmeal or hard boiled eggs with black coffee. The cost of my breakfast is probably 50 cents. For lunch or dinner, making pasta or chicken isn't even that expensive as well. A value meal at McDonald's will run you over $12-$15 easily. People don't want to eat healthy because they don't want to prepare their own food. Also, the name brand items full of poison and non organic wheat are actually double the price compared to all of the items that are organic at Trader Joes. About the only thing I would say is many of these stores like Trader Joes aren't near lower class neighborhoods. They are stuck with poison in Walmart. Which emphasizes why the whole food system needs to be cleaned up. Thanks for watching!
