god damn i was stuck by this limitation for so long, thank you man, really helped me to continue my studies 🙏
happy to hear that. Enjoy!
Impressive work!!! love to see a keytar back in use again. Takes me back to the best decade ever!!!
Cheers! Yeah, and that's not even really a keytar. Sold it years ago and now I have a YAMAHA SHS-10
Hi The Neon Syndicate! Great video however I am experiencing a bunch of problems. I have a behringer xtouch compact which has 8 faders but 2 banks (meaning each fader is able to send 2 ccs when you switch banks) and have tried everything to get it to control the first 16 track volumes in ableton using this script - is it possible? Also, I was wondering if it is possible to modify it further such that the 8 knobs on the right hand side of my controller control the first parameter in each live device on the selected track? Ie, the first knob maps to the first parameter in the first device on that track, the second knob maps to the second device on that track etc? I know how to code but there is such limited documentation on this topic :( Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hey, so as far as controlling 16 tracks, you might just want to assign something to "select next track", and once you move from the 8th to the 9th track, the red selection box will be wrapped around tracks 9-16, which you should be able to control with your faders on the first bank. As far as having your knobs control parameters on different devices, I'm afraid the controlled device needs to be the one selected, so that doesn't sound feasible to me. That being said, everything you suggested could be accomplished using Live's native per-project MIDI learn function!
@@TheNeonSyndicate what do you mean by select next track? I have tried the track left/right and session left/right but it only moves by one slot at a time. Ideally I would want to be able to have the controller control 16 tracks as each fader is capable of sending 2 different cc's based on the layer selected. Do you know a way to do this /another solution? I have tried changing the 8's to 16s in the code but it seems to be going of a num_tracks parameter that comes in from ableton. I really appreciate the help!
@@lincolnzanon3346 Yeah, I've tried that too in the past, but it doesn't seem to work. You can control 8 faders at any given time. I'm sure there must be some way to alter the code (not the map.py file) but my attempts so far have not yielded results unfortunately.
it's weird, my launchpad used to switch automatically, then I played with something in the settings, now I have to do this workaround....so annoying
The launchpad comes with its custom script - you need to select that under your MIDI preferences from the "control surfaces" dropdown menu, as well as in the "input" and "output" ones.
the cover is insane, man. I love it
Hey thanks! Muchas gracias!
Wow good golly, that was sick. Awesome job on this put-together. I really enjoyed this! The guitar you added is absolutely banger.
Thank you sir. Had a great track to work with in the first place!
is it just me or is it working only on 1 channel in a project? am I missing something?
Could you elaborate a bit?

They look good, but how does it handle stereo input. I have stereo jacks on my line 6 pod go guitar interface.
You have stereo inputs. Might need adapters though.
My Gosh I hate Ableton
Is this a glass half full/half empty kind of thing?
Why ? 😂😂
@@AnandSingh-fx8nj I thought maybe they hated the fact that these options are hidden - glass half empty. Me personally, I'm happy they exist at all - glass half full.

Hey, thanks for doing this video! I have an iRigs Pads as well. When you show the feedback on the iRig Pads when muting tracks how exactly are you doing this? I've tried to do this by setting the pads to toggle, but this doesn't work right. I'm guessing you're sending MIDI back to the iRig Pads somehow so the pad will be red when the track is muted. Is that right?
Well spotted! Yes, I have a MIDI clip in Live sending CCs to the iRig Pads - different CCs trigger different colors on different pads. You can even write in automation curves - say a rising ramp, which will make it so that your pad lights up progressively. What pad reacts to what CC is in the manual!
@@TheNeonSyndicate Got it. Thanks for the confirmation. And great video. Very, very helpful in using my iRig Pads for more than just finger drumming.
@@TerenceD9 My pleasure! Yeah, this is a great little toy, I love that you can use it as a basic control surface and for finger drumming! Lately I've been experimenting with assigning the pads to notes chromatically and using it as an alternative keyboard - that can also be a interesting idea to play around with
Does it need a laptop or another keyboard to work?
Yes and no. While it does have its own internal sounds, and even a mono output for you to play them straight into your audio interface and record them, they are pretty cheesy and require a lot of further sound processing to sound usable - unless cheese is what you're going for!
How you made conversion from MIDI to AppleScript?
I'm glad you asked! I'm releasing a tutorial series on MidiPipe where I'm going through the various steps: ua-cam.com/play/PLy5M1HlcrBGeFSFwb5KlX810-LBKC2Uo7.html In the meantime, this can get you started: ua-cam.com/video/zhQSdhCe_QI/v-deo.html

Super useful , i want to switch Vital presets while playing with my Hapax :) Now if the midi clip could change on program change message - that would be optimal.
I have good news for you and bad news my friend. Which do you want to hear first?
@@TheNeonSyndicate Well both, i still struggle with recieving midi CC /Automation from hapax, - i get notes , but i also want to control vital macro knobs via the hapax, not sure if that can be done - i.e. the mapping is maybe gone, when you switch the preset.
@@marcus268 To get CCs, just activate the option in your preferences, that shouldn't be a problem. Then you need to make your mappings, which are going to be preset-specific. Going back to the program change part: Live supports those - if you double click on any clip, you'll see a PC option so you can make that clip send a certain PC message whenever it's launched. The bad news is, Vital does not support them.
@@TheNeonSyndicate yes, got that part, actually i want to send the PC message from hapax, and use clyph x to change the preset - did work with CC mapping tho - had multiple troubleshooting sessions yesterday, and it fianally clicked. I just need to update the vital sounds now, to remove the time based FX, and place these in a 2nd rack, so the sound does not cut out instantly when i change the preset - and map a 2nd rack to change the FX for the sounds. Really a good method you have shown here - thank you !
@@marcus268 Good to hear you got it to work!
This is great, any chance you have remade this in Vital? I've got pretty close but can't quite match the Satriani tones you've got going on here. No worries if not!
Damn, I have used Vital for a couple of years and recreated that exact same sound... No tutorial though, and that synth has long been gone from my plug-in folder. If you're an Ableton Live user, I have a tutorial using Drift: ua-cam.com/video/WJu5a7TyRzE/v-deo.html and if you're on Logic/GarageBand, I have one for Alchemy: ua-cam.com/video/TxhDbyMY_7I/v-deo.html

For those who think the Link function is not working: There is an option in preferences under link to turn on or off sync start/stop and show or don't show the link button I was searching through the whole internet for why all the sets weren't playing at the same time but I finally found it. This video was great! Thank you so much!
Pleasure. Thank you for mentioning the sync start/stop option!
nice! question. did you manually map all your controls?
Yes and no: I have a custom script, so once that is compiled, no matter the project, the assignments are going to be there already, no need to remap everything. Here are more details: ua-cam.com/video/WJshxA-WCy8/v-deo.html
How can i layer instruments without deleting the parts i recorded?
Not sure I understand your question, could you elaborate a bit?
@@TheNeonSyndicate never mind i got it. The midi settings was set to replace and not layer. That said great video it helped me a lot
@@Science.stuff123 alright, then so much the better. Have fun!
proud 100th like 💪
cheers!
What about when you change presets, will it sustain the sound of your current preset while you swap to the next preset? Or will it cut the sound when you swap presets?
This will switch to the new preset immediately, so it will cut your sound. The workaround is to put any delay and reverb effects that might have a long tail outside of your rack: that way, even after the sound is switched, the old sound's tail will continue.
Do you (or maybe anyone else in the comments) know how i can best use this or also the chain selector approach for two separate midi Keyboards? I would have two tracks open that send signal exclusively to one of the keyboards each. Mainly im just struggling how to switch to the next clip or chain selector or whatever without having to select that track for the commands to work. Can i map the up/down in the midi clip selector for both channels separately? Thanks!
You might want to look into custom scripting. You can start here: ua-cam.com/video/WJshxA-WCy8/v-deo.html
Thanks man!
Pleasure, enjoy!
Do you think it is worth it to buy Ableton Live Intro for total 16 track limit and double the limit from lite? Using you tricks, we can either choose between maximizing the total number of tracks, by using the tricks on all the 16 tracks, or being more lenient in using the tricks and use some tracks as is for an easier time and faster production?
I guess it depends on what you intend to do with Live: if you plan on recording a 64 member orchestra, I guess it might be worth considering upgrading, but for someone working with a limited number of audio tracks and doing most of their work with MIDI, there are other little tricks, too (check out my "live lite workarounds" playlist!) that make upgrading not worth it imho. Also, keep in mind that Lite users get major version updates for free - my first version of Live Lite was 4 (!), it came bundled with a cheap controller, and now that same license has gotten me Live Lite 12; with Intro, you're stuck with the version you purchased, and have to purchase Intro again (albeit at a discount) if a major version update is released (like 13).
@@TheNeonSyndicate Damn, I didn't know Lite versions gets upgraded to major versions for free. That alone makes it less worth it to get intro. Thanks.
@@evergreatest7644 Yeah, Ableton are very generous with their non-paying customers 😆
Ah... the Rockman X series OST comes to mind
Not the first time I've heard that 😁 thanks for watching!
What kind of midi cable do you need to use midi with this?
This has a DIN 5-pin MIDI output, so any classic old MIDI cable will do the trick. Haven't tested USB-to-MIDI cables but I'd imagine those would work, too.
Okay thankyou so much for your help
