is it just me, or his eyes started tearing up when he kiss her forhead? i was literally screaming when i first saw this. i was like GO DAMON!!! TELL HER!!!! i ship them so hard and im glad they ended up together. i was shiping them from the season 1 episode 1!!! He truly cares about her

God when I watched this I just snapped.. I started crying while I'm smiling and I just went crazy!!!!!
I absolutely love this scene <3 however, I don't understand how what Damon said to her is considered selfish? He's telling the girl he loved that even though he's in love with her, he thinks his brother deserves her and then after such a sweet and touching display of humanity he has her forget that it happened...how is that selfish? Shouldn't that be considered selfless?????
Jessica Davis I think he considers it selfish because by putting his feelings on the table he is also putting her in the position of making a choice, and whatever her choice someone ends up hurt. So he has to say it with her necklace, just to unwind a bit, take it off his chest, saying the selfish thing and then sort of taking it all back by compelling her to forget therefore minimizing the damage. He unburdens, but she doesnt have to make any choices about it because she wont remember. What he says is selfish, because its about himself and his feelings for her but what he does is not, he releases her from the pressure of acting on his feelings. He unburdens without burdening her as a result.
It's all about his feelings, not Stefan's or Elena's. That's why it's so huge when she remembers this moment. It's coupled with the night they first met. One selfish memory, one selfless memory. It helps her understand there's a right time to be selfish. To put yourself first.
