The power switch should also be on the side, this is a large printer and that power switch is hard to reach. I had software configuration issues I needed help with but got there in the end. I think I blew my bias fuse bulb. It doesn't stick up far enough for me to get a hold of it. How did you change yours?
Thankfully I has small hands, I was able to get enough pressure to push in the lamp and rotate it, then it was just a matter of pulling it straight up. As can be seen in the video, mine's missing the lens. But yeah, it's pretty recessed.
It’s very possible the steeper is at the end of its life depending on how many hours were put on the original mk3s they were from.
Maybe? Though after upgrading neither the X nor the Y stepper motors work. I installed a new xbuddy board today, the issue remains. Now I'm wondering if the Loveboard has gone bad and is causing issues with the buddy board. I tried calibrating with the Love board unplugged from the buddy board but the printer won't finish booting with the Loveboard disconnected. I ordered a new Loveboard tonight rather than spend another five hours with tech support, they're pretty cheap. We'll see what happens after I change it.
Im glad i stumbled on this video, been looking at getting the 2.0 or Mini. What kind of print speeds are you pushing it at?
I'm using Orca Slicer because they already have a profile for the Troodon 2.0 Pro and I'm going with their default speeds. I'm less interested in speed than I am in print quality so it's unlikely that I'll bother to experiment with increasing speed.
also had a problem with my mk3.5 upgrade, where none of the heating elements worked, turns out i received a damaged mainboard. I mean the support helped me pretty quick and send me a new mainboard for free.
Yeah, it looks like after I upgraded from the MK3.9 to the MK3.9S my xbuddy board malfunctioned, it took five hours on chat with tech support but they're sending out a replacement xbuddy board. A year or two ago I had a bad z stepper motor and they sent me a new pair. Prusa tech support is very good.
Just come from an Ankermake M5 over to a Flashforge Adventurer 5M Pro. The speed difference is night and day. 6Hr Print on the Anker takes 3.5 on the Flashforge. Have not dipped my hands into more Exotic materials like ABS/ASA/CF stuff yet.
Nice! I honestly don't mind slow printing, I'm not running a 3D printing business, but seeing a printer this fast that still produces great prints is really amazing to see.
I love Cthulhu just chilling in his cube
Don't forget Moopsy. This is a dangerous room.
Umm your belts are very loose.
Yeah, the right hand horizontal belt was very loose, I tightened it the next day.
The printer thinks that you have the timelapse module installed onto kipper. The slicer is send that command not the config.
Yup, I found the command in the start gcode and removed it.
I have to begin the process of calling the manufacturer to find out why the back seat will not go down and the seat will not lift. 😢
I gave up on Drive Medical, I found another brand, which was a bit more expensive but has been working flawlessly for I think two years.
I recapped an S-20R and had the same accessibility issue on that one particular cap. I clipped one end flush with the cap and abandoned the paper cap there, then installed the new one as best as could be done.
I'll dig through the schematic and figure out where that end of the cap leads and take a look at what i can do. I think that cap was soldered in place before the tuning section was installed.
This has to be one of the cleaner radios I have seen, that capacitor makes me wonder how they soldered it in there in the first place. Also if you are real pro at it and have the right pliers and cutters you can desolder the old caps and save their leads, people apparently will sometimes pay a bit of money for the old caps just for cosmetic purposes or putting them in guitars as tone caps lol
Put the corroded spring in vinegar. Soak for a while and clean. Or place a battery eliminator. I dit that with my IM13.
I started working in electronics in late 1957 and this set looks like it predates anything I ever worked on.
I think it's from around 1939.
Don't really know what I got out of this video. I think it was this:- I want to replace the caps. Some are hard to get to. They will be difficult. Some are easier to get to. They won't be so difficult.
That's about the size of it. I need to do some research and figure out a way to get to that buried capacitor. By comparison, the rest won't be so bad.
I look in the chassis of these big radios and count the paper caps, and groan. Sometimes people cheat a little bit and solder onto the snipped leads of the old cap,, on very difficult ones. I don't mind if it is done well, it is technically not an issue if soldered correctly and the leads cannot short. Just that it feels better to replace the whole thing neatly.
And if one lead is to a ground that is inaccessible, sometimes an alternative ground point is acceptable.
That reminds me of a AM SW console radio I worked a couple years ago that had caps buried down in the RF deck like that on rotary switches. Yea some of those are a super pain, maybe they were attached to the coil deck before it was installed. I am no longer cranking out radios all the time anymore. Some of these are like diving off the deep end while the water is still cold.
Yes!!!
Love old radios!!!!
Fixing old boat anchor receivers can be addictive~! Hope you have the room!
Assuming I'm successful in repairing all this stuff, I suspect I'll have to sell some of it.
Lookin' nice!
Thanks ma'am!
Lucky!
It's crazy, it's not like I was looking for another project, at least not yet. I probably have yet another project coming, but won't be announcing what until after this weekend, if things go well.
MOOPSY
Is Tom Cruise in the closet, too?
I didn't see him, but I could swear I heard "Danger Zone" playing from somewhere behind the towels.
I think you are looking at the stators in the tuning cap. Look on the other side of the cap assembly for movement
You're right. I discovered that a bit after I posted the video. Despite its looks, I think this radio can be recovered. I haven't figured out how to adjust the clock yet, I wasn't able to push the knob in and pulling it out just causes the knob to pop off. Turning the knob seems to just turn something off and on, perhaps the power on timer?
@@JamesADoty If that is the standard telechron movement you do pull the setting control in the back to set. Because the shaft goes out through the back of the case it is long and so is often missing (at least with HQ-180s).
@@merashallan Awesome, thank you for the post. Mine's broken off pretty close to the clock. I'll see if I can get pliers on it to see if I can pull it out to set it. I'll have to see if I can find a parts machine to get that part from. I'm getting ready to work on the Hallicrafters SX-24 then the Hammarlund.
The white powder on the pots is corrosion.
Eep, that's not good. I'll have to open the tube tester again to do the calibration work, I'll see about removing the corrosion then.
@@JamesADoty This type of corrosion is probably due to the current flow, but I don't know if this can be an issue.
@@albinballon3373 Strange, I still have a lot to learn.
Hope your nose clears for that distinctive old vacuum tube technology warm-up, smell.
Thanks, turned out I'd come down with a cold. The #81 lamp should arrive today. If it does I'll post an update video. Lets hope the tube tester works this time.
Nice neat bench! It won’t be so neat after you’re done recapping that SX-24. From your previous video, I must point out that the 5000 ohm output is labeled, but the 500 ohm output above it is not. Go figure. ;-) Download the SX-24 manual from the net, if you haven’t already.
Good catch. I did get a small original manual with the radio. Weird that the headphone jack on the lower right appears to be capped off. I'll have to investigate that. I've started my capacitor shopping list. Looks like I'll have to replace twenty-four caps. I'm replacing the three electrolytic capacitors and 21 paper capacitors, the mica caps are likely fine.
I think that’s just a 1/4 inch plug that sheared off. Very strange. But it should be easily removed from the inside. That radio looks absolutely UNTOUCHED underneath! Not like the hacked-up SX-24 that I recently worked on. Consider yourself lucky!
Do you know how to adjust the rear wheels on this, please? A charity I know have one and I'm not sure if the wheel bearings are going or there's supposed to be play in the back wheel.
Hi, the back wheels are held on by push button release axles. When properly installed the push button should stick out, and you should not be able to pull the rim away from the handcycle. I don't know if it's normal or not, but mine do have a very little bit of bit of play in them. Though just in and out on the axle, but side to side or anything, the wheels do not wobble. If you have a proper durable medical equipment dealer nearby they can take a look at this for you, a lot of ultra-lite manual wheelchairs use the same type of axles as are on this handcycle.
@@JamesADoty Thank you very much, James. I adjusted the rear wheel nuts and found out if you tighten them too much, the axles don't lock in to place. I've replaced the bearings on one side and it's definitely improved things, the other side weren't too bad. I also replaced both bearings on one side on another similar trike and it made a huge difference. I guess the play is normal to allow for different cambers on roads and pavements. I take it the large nuts on either side of the axle are to adjust the track at the rear so wider people can sit down without rubbing against the wheels? Thanks very much once again for your reply, really do appreciate it.
My father had one of these, after he passed I had it. Used it for a receiver when I had my Novice license in 1971. Later when I moved I gave it to my older brother, also a ham, to keep. Not sure if he still has it.
Wow, that's awesome. What a cool legacy to pass such a beautiful piece of ham gear from family member to family member. I got my first rig in 1990, a Drake TR-4C with all the goodies, I loved that radio. I ended up selling it after ten years of use and getting something newer and less scary to use.
James, I have the card intact on the bottom of my SX-24. Would like to send you a copy of it for your restoration project. Looking forward to your future videos on getting the Skyrider working!
That would be fantastic! How do you want to do this? I can Paypal you the shipping and what do you want for the copy of the card? I have a Hickok 6000A vacuum tube tester I'll be repairing first, it needs a new 50uf 6v electrolytic cap before I can use it. I'm sure it'll need to be aligned as well. Some of the stuff I need to build my dim bulb circuit has arrived, once the rest arrives I'll build that and 3D print a cabinet for it. Then I'll go through the parts list for the Hallicrafters receiver and order all the caps I need and I'll test all the resistors. I received the isolation transformer I ordered, and I already own a variac. The radio is in such good condition that I'm only slightly nervous about restoring it. I work stupid slow so I won't be recording my work, but I'll be sure to post videos of my progress.
@@JamesADoty I will check with "the plot shop" in Daphne and see if they can print a copy of the card on heavy card stock. There will be no charge.

DONT RECAP!!! ITS MINT MAN!! TEST THE CAPS INCIRCUIT . I bet they are fine!! The twisted wires are a feed back cap ... just a few pics! leave it!!
A friend of mine told me about the feed back cap. I admit I'd never seen one before. I don't think I can test the caps in circuit, I'm sure I'll have to unsolder one end of each cap to test it. I'd love to leave the caps in place, they "look" fine, but there's no way they're still good. The radio is amazingly clean inside.
Hi James, the twisted-together wires are known as a “gimmick” capacitor. Probably a couple of picofarads.
@@superhet7281 Yeah, a friend of mine filled me in on that a couple of days after I shot the video. Interesting, I'd never heard of them.
Congrats on the acquisition! You hit a home run..
Thank you. I'm really looking forward to restoring and using it. I ordered an isolation transformer, a signal generator, and nylon alignment tools. I've been dabbling off and on in electronics since 1972, including two years in college learning electronic engineering from 1980 to 1982. I think if I take my time I can really do this radio justice.

Looks a lot like the Ryobi RM300e mower that I have, except it is lithium rather than the lead-acid batteries. Nice. :)
That was the only reason I didn't buy the Ryobi mower. It was a tough choice.
@@JamesADoty I converted my RM300e to lithium with a custom DIY 60ah 14s battery and it tripled my mowing time and I don't have to charge it every week. I have only charged it 3 times in the last 6 months. I have a house in the suburbs so it's only like 30 minutes of mowing time every week in the summer.
@@winmancaboose That's fantastic. I looked at the Ryobi mower and would have bought it if it had come with lithium batteries. If you've posted a video on your conversion I'd like to see it.
Does the charger come with the mower or do you have to buy it separately? Thanks
That is a very good question. The mower comes complete with two 80 volt batteries, the charger, a chute plug, and a handful of tools. All you have to do when you get the mower is uncrate it, put air in the tires, install the batteries and charge them, bolt on the sheering wheel, and bolt on the seat. The whole process takes only an hour or two.
Hart batteries are not the same as ryobi. Plug is slightly different.
That sucks. Did you try it, or is there a link on the Interwebs about it?
I've heard there the same but there are plastic tabs that can be removed where it plugs in
Parabéns,só que vc não mostrou quase nada do seu trabalho
Desculpe, mas na maior parte do tempo eu não sabia o que estava fazendo, então o trabalho progrediu muito lentamente.
Thanks for this video. About how long is the cord on the charger. I'm considering getting this but I'm concerned about the location of my outlet
I never measured them, but the charging cable has to be at least six feet long, and the AC cord is also at least six feet long. I have my charger on a table on the right hand side of my carport, the AC cable easily reaches an outlet nearby that's at least six feet in the air. The charging cable reaches across my ten foot wide carport to the charger jack on the mower which is part on the left side of my carport with its back facing the ride side of the carport. Cable length shouldn't be an issue for most people. This is my second season with this mower and it's still brilliant.
@@JamesADoty thank you so much for the detailed reply. I think this may work out for me.
