I'm this video I'm testing the ultralight on 4s with a 13x8x3 propeller. Also I discovered a design flaw that I'll be talking about in a upcoming video.

I'm trying the 15x7x3 again in this flight on 3s. Now that the elevator is working properly. Unfortunately the 15" prop is just to big for proper ground clearance.

This is my own design based on the air bike 103 ultralight. I spent many hours looking at pictures of this plane and coming up with my own design. This plane has a 60" wing and weighs 2500 grams. I am running a Badass 2826 780kv motor on a 6000mah 3s. Testing between a 13x8x3 and a 15x7x3 propeller. I've done some changes since the end of this video on the elevator that I'm sure will fix my pre...

Pretty place to fly! And good camera team :)
@@hradynarski Thanks !
It is flying but it is to heavy and lack of power. i suggest you to redesign on your plane and use less material but stronger build. Make it light as possibble so it will be floaty. 2500 gram + 6000mah battery is too much weight on it. For home made wing size 60" i usually use 2200mah 3s battery with slow fly prop which giving out more powerfull thrust, if is it proper design you can build it less than 800g.
@@EnddyFishing it's 2500 grams with the battery. I ended up going with a 4s. I'm testing a few 13" props now but I've got more videos coming up of it flying much better. Also a big issue was the elevator not working properly. Also another issue I figured out the other day I haven't made a video about yet. But it will fly great as is. Just needed some testing and a few modifications.
@@EnddyFishing 800 grams would be pretty insanely light for a plane as big as this. Especially with foam board and hot glue.
6mm foam will do the trick. using thermal styrofoam also great, but it take a lot of time to do the sanding.
I never use push for up elevator I always use PULL for up elevator.
@@onmyworkbench7000 I've done that before. I just wanted the plane to look cleaner. Ive moved the servo much farther back now and fixed the issue.
One thing that I do is set the elevator control arm on top of the control surface so that the survos is pulling to go up. I've had the same issue with some of my planes. Especially being that you are not planning to fly this inverted, having the survo set to pull may be a quick fix. Great looking plane! I think this will be a great flying plane once the elevator is sorted!
@@airplane-mode8577 that's a good idea. I didn't do that this time but I did fix the elevator issue. Once I fixed that I found another equally important issue that you'll see in a upcoming video. This plane has taught me a lot even after 30+ builds of my own design, there's still things to learn!
@FlyTimeRC I'm right there with you man, I though I had a good idea about design and building planes, but I'm learning new stuff all the time!
😂😂

Your ability to go back to the drawing board without being upset is inspiring! Im building my first rc plane and will remember how you react when i fail.
@@dl5930 thank you! Just remember it's all for fun and there's always a opportunity to learn!
Great workout on the blue thunder.
@@AVIATOR-by4kk Thank you!
best of luck bro you can do everythink let's go level up
@@inventor212yt Thank you! Lots more to come with this one.
@@FlyTimeRCyou're welcome
Beautiful plane and it sounds really good passing by!
Thanks! I agree. These faster planes, it's really the sound that keeps me building and flying them!
Trial and error, I only have one foam board plane and it's frustrating I couldn't get it to fly right even if it was a kit. But the design looks great, I know you'll make it fly right.
@@A.M.-RC yep exactly. Not every design works perfectly from the start. This one is probably the most complicated plane I've built. So far I've discovered two issues that were pretty major. And fixed them both. I've got several more videos coming up. This plane should do great!
Yeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh buddy
Dang glad you didn’t beat it up to bad. That thing is nice bro. Looks awesome.. I’d go with a 4S battery. It will probably fly on 3S but I think it’s going to be way under powered… That elevator is deflated a big part of the problem. Run the wire through a straw and brace it in the middle, that way the wire can’t bend.. I’ve done it a couple times, works great.. Can’t wait to see it flying…
@@EJ-74 so I did the tube on the wire in the back but not the middle. Fortunately I totally changed everything on the elevator. I moved the servo much closer and also used a rod that's 3x thicker. As for power I agree on 4s but also I won't get much more thrust. I may have to experiment more with a smaller prop on 4s. But for now I'm going to try to make the 3s work. I'm going to fly it again today and see if I've fixed the issue and I'll know for sure if the 3s will work or if I need to go 4s and change up the prop. We will see.
@@FlyTimeRC Cool, good luck 👍🏻
@@EJ-74 thanks! I'll post another video tomorrow and let you guys know how it goes
@@FlyTimeRC Oh yeah I see you got flaps on that bad boy 😁 I was just asking about flaps, lol I’m looking forward to seeing how it flies. That’s a nice build bro…👍🏻✌🏻
@@EJ-74 thanks a lot! Ya I think that because I had unknown issues with the elevator the flaps actually helped a lot getting the plane off the ground. I'm hoping to go fly it here in a few hours and see how it does.
If anybody was wondering the elevator wasn't working 😕
Ya think 😂🤣
Ya i wish I'd done a better check on the servo rods. Oh well
That’s not a plane that’s a rocket ship 😂 What size battery are you running? If you said I must’ve missed it.. The weather here has been way to crazy to fly. We were in a tropical storm. We had the worse flooding in years and the wind has been blowing over trees causing power outages. A big tree feel on my neighbors house. Thank good nobody got hurt. It’s covered in crime scene tape and they can’t go back in till it’s deemed safe… Today is the first day it’s been decent to fly in a about a month.. I’m going to try to get my new plane flying today… If I do I’ll post it tonight… Nice plane, nice flying, keep it up. 👍🏻✌🏻
@@EJ-74 lol thanks! Im excited about this new plane! Sorry to hear about the weather, we are bout to get into our rain and wind months here to. I hope you get to fly soon. I've had such a busy summer I've barely done anything with my planes. That's really sad about your neighbors. Scary to. Hopefully they are ok.
Oh also running a 3300 mah 4s. And hey have you heard of AIO guitars?
@@FlyTimeRC Nah can’t say I’m familiar with AIO guitars. I’ll do a search and check them out though. I’m always up for checking out new guitars or new to me anyways lol…My neighbors are ok just not being able to go into their home is messed up though… Not sure where they are staying, they didn’t say so I didn’t go snooping in their business lol… Love the new plane bro. That thing flies nice and fast.. You ever put flaps on any of your builds? I want to put them on my newest plane but I don’t have enough channels on my crappy radio lol… My buddy has a DXe 7 he hardly ever uses so I’m trying to talk him into selling it to me lol..
@@EJ-74 this plane is set up with flaperons. And they do help!
@@EJ-74 heck ya. Solid remote!
It looks very aggressive like it wants to go fast. the wing looks nice.
It does! Definitely flies pretty fast without much effort. Definitely happy with the way it performed.

got any fpv planes or fpv systems? i feel like that’d be way more fun and easier to fly. at least around objects that is
@@Jacknoham I haven't been able to put together the fpv system I want yet, id really like to get into fpv. But so far flying line of sight has been awesome. I've only been flying and building my own planes for a year so I'm still pretty new and every flight is a blast! But I can't wait to get my fpv set up. I do have a plane I've built just for fpv and I fly it all the time. Hopefully in the next few months I'll finally get my fpv set up complete.
@@FlyTimeRC yeah I fly fpv drones i’m pretty good at it
@@Jacknoham oh awesome then maybe that will make it easier. Except you can't stop flying lol.
does it translate into flying real rc jets?
@@Jacknoham not at all. The stick controls are different. Also it's only 2 channel so it's a bit different than a standard 4 Chanel airplane with ailerons, elevator and rudder. But for a new person getting in the hobby it's easy and a cheap place to start!
@@FlyTimeRC i just got it and it’s kinda similar. like obviously it’s only 2 channel but you still kinda learn the basics. i got a $270 jet in a trade deal and i’m not ready to fly it. i’ve flown a little of my brother’s horizon trainer plane which also has pitch and roll. but just for flying it’s still similar. also just wanted smthn cheap that’s no biggie if i break. too bad my fpv system is too heavy cuz it’d be a lot easier to fly fpv
@@Jacknoham well that's good. It will give you a sense of being in the air and you'll definitely learn something. I'd step up something with 4 channels that has some kind of SAFE technology so you can get more experience. Glad you're getting started though!!
@@FlyTimeRCi think my brothers 1s trainer is 4 channel. and it has auto level. altho might only be 3 channel idk if it has rudder
@@Jacknoham even if it's just 3 channel with rudder only for steering it will be a great trainer. Really keeping the plane level, being able to keep the orientation of the plane correct and also landing are the things you have to get really confident with before you get up in the air with your jet. Also in the future if possible setting up rates for the pitch and roll axis and setting up expo so that the jet is not overly responsive will make it smoother and easier to fly the first time.
Looks like you got her dialed in pretty dang good. Ole buck enjoying watching y’all fly 😂
@@EJ-74 lol ya he did! Thanks!
Looks very controllable. All of your mods paid off. A solid flyer now. Nice !
@@keepyourairspeedup thank you! Yep I'm very happy with it. It's been sitting for almost a year waiting for me to finish it and fly it. I'm glad it does well now after some small tweaks!
Looks tail heavy cg?
@@ksmith8019 yep. It was a little tail heavy unfortunately. But after some modifications it flies amazing!
I love this hybrid plane concept. Maybe more dihedral would make it more stable?
@@Wings_of_foam definitely has enough dihedral. It was a little to tail heavy. But I've made some modifications and it flys awesome!!
Thumbs up buddy. Such a wonderful experience when you build your own design, at 1/5 th of the price of a factory built one. What state are you in. Seeing a wild dear like that is something that most people will never see.
That's true! Very rewarding to have your own design flying in the air! We are in north Idaho. I guess the deer like flying to?😂
Great video. Great build. 2 Questions. What kind of Foam Board are you using and what kind of Spar did you use in that wing.
@@gisall8205 thanks! I'm using regular white foam board from the dollar store and the spar is a single layer of foam board that is 3/4" wide. That's it.
@@FlyTimeRC THANKS BUDDY
That plane looks and flies great. Good work on the improvements. I see you also got the approval of the local wildlife.
@@SnoMoJoe1 yep! It does good now. All I've got to do now is charge the batteries and have fun!
Too bad building materials are scarce. Hobby Lobby is the only place I know of around here that sells balsa, and I never see any hard balsa. Nice plane.
@@joewoodchuck3824 I just use dollar store foam board. For all of my planes, except my 80" which uses a carbon fiber wing spar but the rest is foam board and hot glue.
Nice flying, that thing flys so nice, I’m surprised how well it flies inverted with the polyhedral wing, I think that’s correct lol Nice buck, he was watching thinking damn that’s a big arse bird I’m out of here 😂🤣
@@EJ-74 lol thanks! I think we spooked him for sure lol
@@FlyTimeRC was polyhedral correct 🤔 lol
Nice plane, looking forward to the next flight.
@@AVIATOR-by4kk thanks a lot! After some small modifications it really does great. I'll have another video soon!
Very nice. Flys very well. I built a Flite Test Simple Soarer as a V tail. This is very similar.
@@SnoMoJoe1 oh awesome, I bet it does great.
The wings look twisted up to me. I think it would fly more predictable if the wings were straightened and put a little washout on each wing tip.
It ended up being a little tail heavy. I did change the wing tips and also shortened the fuse. It flies awesome now.
Oh dang I must have missed the notification for this video, Looks cool. Honestly I love the wheels but I think it would fly much better with out them and like you said a folding prop would be better also, they do eventually get beat up belly landing though so there’s always a down fall some where along the line. Like my grandfather always used to say, ya gotta give to get… 🤷🏼♂️
@@EJ-74 the wheels in this case help keep a forward cg and also I wanted to make it a tail dragger lol just because. It's really an abomination lol. Several plane types in one.
Awesome,I like it, I really love those wheels, I’ve got to get me some of those, I think they will look good on my next biplane build, give it that old school look. Looks like you got the CG worked out, looked like it was porpoising right much at first? Couple more flights I’m sure you’ll have it dialed in. Looked like it had plenty of power, did you just not get into the throttle quick enough or did it not have enough thrust to pull out of the stall ?
Low battery on the stall. And it was tail heavy at first. I've made some mods and it flys perfectly now. Another video coming soon! Those wheels are on flite test website.
It’s obvious you don’t know anything about aviation. Read a book. Stop embarrassing yourself and giving out bogus information. Sad.
Realy good manuverabilty
