Lee Shores, Lazy Jacks and Lunches

Приєднався 20 січ 2017
Sailing to the best pubs in the Solent and beyond. Dave Oliver and Dave Rebbettes sail to some hidden gems in the South of England. Just a couple of grumpy old yachtmasters doing what they love. Unusual anchorage, interesting pilotage and good grub. One Dave putting up with the moaning of another Dave.

Are you 2 Davids and Nipper OK? - I miss you on UA-cam
It's now 6 years since you posted this video. What are your experiences with your steps? How often are you now going aloft after installing them? Which alloy aluminium did you use? Did you use aluminium rivets or monel?
Hi, it’s been a while as you say and my memory is incomplete. I believe that the aluminium was 6061-T6. The rivets, rightly or wrongly, were aluminium. I have sold Induna now and have a Najad 390 without mast steps. I did use them frequently and miss them. Will think about installing them again, though I may think about buying folding steps. Making them was quite an effort. Cheers, Dave
I just found this, I’m going to it it with some of our old hiway signs that we have exchanged out , thank you
Intrepid explorers, laughing in the face of a tempest, suffering from frostbite, and all to keep us marina huggers entertained. Gentlemen, I salute your fortitude in such miserable conditions. (PS great video as always)
Great video as always 👍
There you both are! I was beginning to get worried. Anyway, good to see you back - I’m well and truly crocked at the moment following operation on leg and groin. Bloody uncomfortable but am I complaining? Well yes, according to SWMBO it seems I am……constantly! Boat’s going back in 27th so that will lift spirits. Need more videos chaps, don’t leave us hanging👍
Sorry to hear that Michael. Hope you full recover soon. As you say, the anticipation of a sailing season ahead is good for the soul.
Good to have you back chaps!
Thanks Simon
How did I miss this extravaganza of sausage roll wonderfullness? It’s great to see the cockpit tent come into its own too. I think you could hold a party in there. Somthing about it reminds me of a circus tent. Perhaps it’s the clowns? Anyway thanks a bunch guys made my evening to find one I had missed.
Ha ha. I hear you met the boys in Bembridge this weekend
@@LeeShoresLazyJacksandLunches I did indeed, and it was great to be able to say hi to Dave O and Josh, we must sort out an invite aboard Antrice when I am on the new berth in Yarmouth. Hopefully April.
Dave is an expert on shriveled nuts! He should bring his own snacks and food Dave! as for arriving early, the ealy bird gets the worm , nice to see you both out and about. solent looks as lovely as ever.
Well said Fiona, hope that boat work is progressing.
I really wish I could but in between you two. Oh well will just have to sit back and listen. Here is what I have been up to this winter in Japan I sail in winter but I am not crazy. I don't go out in snow, rain, wind above 20 knots or temperature below 8 degrees. ua-cam.com/video/8JKJhLMvKMU/v-deo.html
Thanks Gary, enjoyed that. Love the sheet to tiller set up. Stay safe.
Lovely to see you guys back again. Getting to Dave’s house 30 minutes early, especially at 8 is unacceptable. You have my sympathy Dave
Ha ha. Come on JC, give me a break.
Hi Chaps, Thanks for the fly-by of my new berth, I have a spot booked for this year just before the Bridge. I am looking forward to it. But can i ask a favour if you don't mind? If you would give me a call a couple of days before you attempt that trip again so i can get a whole load of extra fenders in place before you come past. Thanks Chaps!
Been counting the days for some more videos! I myself am not an early bird or night owl, more of a permanently exhausted pigeon! Great to see you both back :)
Ha ha, know the feeling Simon.
Well done guys, great to see you again
Cheers FT
I would rather be early than late
I do love watching your streams. Some bring back memories of my dad
What a flea ridden ryde....................
You having a binge there Big Ross?
Ray, I meant Ray
Nice trip despite the shenanigans and the hats!
Nice spot to hide away for a while!
So kind of you to provide that splendid tacking lesson despite all your hang upps. Must say that I'm not realy itchin to go to that lunch spot, bit scrappy!!! SkipRay, Kerry, Ireland.
I see what you did there Ray....
That looks like just the sort of hideaway gunkhole that I would like to visit!
Come on down and bring a beer!!!
Enjoyed that very much, rgabk you. Really fancy a visit to Eling Creek
Good to see you both back
Awesome and fabulous..wonderful and superb 👍
Thanks
I've just come across the channel and sub'd. I've sat here chuckling away at your blether. Made my afternoon and I can relate to so much of what you lads are going on about. Thanks for sharing. 🤗
Ha ha. There’s 20 minutes of your life you’ll never get back AA.
Sorry to see no sausage rolls in this video- please provide footage next time with mustard. Happy New Year and glad to see the Beaulieu river is still letting you two moor on it !
Hi Fiona. Got to admit, his sausage rolls are good. Much better that soup scraped out of an old shopping bag. Hope all is well. How’s that boat refurb coming on. New deck down yet?
@@LeeShoresLazyJacksandLunches Hi all is going well on the refit! Mast is due to come down on the next two weeks and new chain plates going in. We have a new caprail and toe rails ! Deck is completely done but we now have to save for flexiteak. Interior hopefully in the next two months. I am looking forward to having a new galley! When we meet in the Solent I will cook soup and sausage rolls, minus the Sainsbury bag 😂
@fionawinter2382 Brilliant. A Monmouth project but will end with a lot of satisfaction. Look forward to some good food when we eventually catch up.
Stop complaining!!! But if I do that we won"t have a video.. Oright then off ya go. thanks for the effort. Good to see ya back. gary in japan
Ha ha, thanks for the permission to moan Gary. Hope all is well in Japan.
Adventure before Dementia...
😂😂😂 Sure feels like that some times.
@@LeeShoresLazyJacksandLunches Yet you continue to set an example to those of us who follow you on UA-cam and age, I'll be 59 next month. So rejoice in the small things you impart with your videos that the rest of us sailors hoover up from your many years ago that you were both rightly ticketed YachtMasters. That you will never be parted from...
@marktaylor484 nice words MT. 👍
Great to see you back with your cheerful dialogue as usual - bit rich to blame us for your grumpiness though. Serious recommendation for a NOCO battery jump starter just in case Small in size, holds enough power to start around six engines when battery is flat. Connect it to battery terminals, wait five minutes and twist the key! Now in our eighties, for the first time our boat on the hard December to March, so great to sit in front of a blazing fire and see you suffer for our entertainment. Many more please!
Thanks Michael, just googled the Noco. Looks impressive. Hope we’re still sailing in our eighties. Hope you have many more years yet.
Yep, still going, though just diagnosed with a recurrence of melanoma. Waiting for surgery to remove affected lymph nodes followed by a longish course of immunotherapy. Third bout of cancer over the years, and it ain’t got me yet, so looking forward to some good boating in 2024. Do keep up the videos - love them.@@LeeShoresLazyJacksandLunches
@michaelnicholson4933 an example of a great attitude and spirit. Thanks Michael. In our prayers.
Welcome back!
Cheers Simon, hope all is well with you.
Get yourself a pilot house yacht ;-)
Can’t argue with that Wayne.
Hurrah Happiest day of 2024 when I got the UA-cam notification. Thanks for the vid.
Ha ha, come on Barry. You must have had a rough new year if that was your happiest moment. Made me laugh out loud that.
What a surprise! Wish you a happy new year, stay healthy and maybe we'll meet in the Solent sometime in 2024. Unfortunately it didn't work out in 2023. I'm looking forward to the next videos. BR Jochen
Agreed. Glad you had a safe sail in the Solent and got back safely. Maybe 2024!!!!!
Wow, I had assumed that old Dave (aka soggy tubes) had gone into a nursing home and the videos had stopped. 😂 It's great to see you both even if young Dave can't remember why he is there 😂
Ha ha, good to hear from you FT. Just been watching some of your videos. Great idea to show a range of slipways in the area.
@@LeeShoresLazyJacksandLunches thanks. I know the quality isn't great but it gives people who trail boats an idea of the slipways
Exactly. I would find that very useful. I’m
I'd like to say what a pleasure to see you back. Even if you're grumpy old gits!!! Very impressed that you actually sailed in that. I've just gone down to the boat, shook my head and started on my ever lengthening list of jobs And as a former owner of a 36CC, leave cool runnings alone !
Understand the ever growing job list Jason. What are you sailing these days if not a 36CC?
@@LeeShoresLazyJacksandLunches I upgraded to a Dufour 36 Classic. Still on the Hamble but she sails better than the 36cc!
@jasonchamberlin1532 Nice lines those boats. Enjoy.
No recents videos chaps, hope all is well.👍
Great video. I've seen other DYI mast steps but yours look the best. What type of aluminum did you use, if you know? I'll like to make my own, but I think I'll heat treat them to relieve the cold bending stress. Thanks!
Thanks. Sorry can’t remember the Aluminium type. Was a while ago. Hope it goes well for you.
Where are you guys, hope your both ok?
So relaxing. helps me to get away from the TV.
Another excellent culinary instalment!
Twas indeed Chris. Good old nipper.
Great seeing you both on the beaulieu on Thu. Looking forward to your next video
Thanks for saying hello Barry. If you got a decent photo you could send it to daverebbettes@me.com. Cheers, Dave
Hi dave, photos emailed. Regs
Hi both, jut wondering if you plans for future vids.?
Enjoyed the video , will search out some others , Scilly Isles do look good for a visit , thanks
You are very welcome David
Excellent work gents. Pretty obvious that nipper is the main force for achieving anything though. Superb cooking by him and you only seek to go anywhere when he’s not there
Uncomfortably true Jason. I even tried removing the steering wheel to try to slow him down.
Just saying Nipper is my son anything good on this channel is from me or my offspring
@@davidoliverinsights1 I believe the evidence from many many videos would suggest that only 1/2 of that statement is true 😉😉- Yourself and Mr R seem less successful when together
Fantastic videography again chaps, the best display of chins I have seen for ages. And as for “getting the flappy things up” was that a brief glimpse of a cruising chute? You could have knocked me down with a feather. What I want to see is how well the cruising chute compares down wind with the windage of Cool Runnings circus big top of a cockpit tent. Getting off anchor without a Helm, absolutely classic Lee shores lazy jacks and lunches.. But the biggest surprise was you got out of the Solent well done. As for me well I took my Moody on the Westerly Summer Rally all the way to St Marlo. But that’s another story.
Antrice btw spell check keeps changing your boat name to ‘any rice’ just putting it out there
@@davidoliverinsights1 yeah but that’s because spell check is for the nautically illiterate.
I do love your videos ! I’ll be in beaulieu next week so I’ll look out for you ! Irish Joe BMYC
Say hi if you see us Joe. Pelonia is on the bend just before Bucklers Har and Cool Runnings is a few boats beyond the marina.
Down there doing jobs this Monday kettle can be fired up
looks bloody lovely D and D! When "Nipper"is on board its a veritable feast- I would like the Mac and Cheese recipe. Nice to see that cruising chute up Dave. I also wanted to say a true sailor has a tool for everything- so a knife for peeler, a fork for masher and a welly boot for a jug - only joking - go to the pound store Dave !!
Ha ha. I have all of the above Fiona. Thanks for getting me out of that one.
You tell him Fiona he’s a cheap skate
What a great way to relive it! Was an awesome trip!!!
Great video chaps, but you looked remarkably fresh on arrival at the Scillies. Are you sure Halcyon Yachts didn’t deliver it for you?? Thought I might join you on this cruise, but the fuel would cost around £2500 for the round trip, so sticking to the Solent. Most envious of your trip though, and thoroughly entertaining as usual👍👍
Thanks Michael, and sorry about the little bit of unnecessary abuse you received. 😀
@@LeeShoresLazyJacksandLunches Hi Dave, used to abuse from the Admiral, so water off ducks back👍. Just recalculated fuel requirements and more like £3000- knew we should have kept our Bavaria sailing boat!
Wow, that is a lot of fuel. What boat and engine do you have.
@@LeeShoresLazyJacksandLunches Sealine S34, downsized recently. Pair of Volvo Penta AD41’s, 200hp each, approx 12/13 gph @20 knots. Hence, don’t go far - Cowes, Lymington, Yarmouth - based in Port Solent. Personally miss sailing, but the Admiral won’t allow it🙈
Dread to think how much the 50 footers spend. You’re in a good spot in the Solent and we are all lucky to be able to enjoy it in the way that we do.
Picks himself off the floor. A Statler and Waldorf video with lots of actual sailing in it….🤣 PS Another good one. Keep up the good work 👍
Disappointingly you are not the first to have mentioned S & W. 😂
Thanks what do you think Potato Peeler Whisk jug, lifebuoy light? Just saying!
Hilarious as always, totally jealous of that trip and those steaks 😂 looks like you had the perfect weather for it 🌞 Great vlog 😎
