Landscape Photography in the English Countryside
Переглядів 5962 місяці тому
Landscape Photography in the English Countryside, exploring public footpaths in Essex and Suffolk. I discovered an old rusted petrol pump at the end of a quiet country lane - a human element in nature. I also showcase some of the photos I captured from a recent trip to Glen Coe, Scotland - a haven for mountains, lochs, and waterfalls. There are over 30,000 lochs and lochans in Scotland. Chapter...

Black And White Photography in the English Countryside: It's late March in the English Countryside, and the spring foliage is just starting to appear with new buds appearing on the trees. With muted colours and quiet light, I opted for Black and White Photography, taking advantage of the picture style settings on my Canon camera. I travel along the quiet lanes in Suffolk, taking in a view towar...
Beach Photography on the Suffolk Coastline (Landscape Photography)

Due to cliffside erosion, there are many uprooted trees along the Suffolk Coastline at Bawdsey Beach. With the organic nature of their weathered and smoothed out bark, the trees have been claimed by the beach. Partly submerged into the sand, they lay as reminders of how quickly coastal erosion occurs, in some areas up to two metres each year. The weather conditions weren't optimal for long expo...

The Hay Wain (haywain) refers to the wooden wagon (wain) used for transporting cut and dried meadow grass (hay). The empty wagon is making its way through the shallow water to cross to the meadow on the other side where haymakers are at work. The Glyderau is a mountain range in Snowdonia. The name derives from the highest peaks in the range, Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr. Castle of the Winds (Castell y Gwynt) can be found near the summit of Glyder Fach. It is a staggered slate rock structure, somewhat resembling a stegosaurus. I watch 'shed & buried' on the TV and like the presenter Henry Cole love old petrol pumps. Henry likes to restore them and sell them on to other enthusiasts. I like to photograph them, especially if they are in their original place, making detailed shots of the patina etc. Be grateful for location, as I'm probably not far. Love Glencoe too. You have some great pics there. Went there back in 2016 and lost my SD cards before I unloaded them. 😞 Happy shooting!

That must have really hurt, losing your SD cards! The location is Wormingford Hall, just northwest from Wormingford off the B1508 (South of Bures). There is a lay by on a bend at the bottom of the hill with plenty of parking. The lane to the hall is a short walk heading back from the lay by.

Cracking set of holiday pics Russ... love the 65.24 (?) in a few ofthem. That petrol pump was great... I am not normally intothat sort of thing but something really resonated with me - maybe as a kid I worked on the pumps at my Uncle's garage and recently was shown some old pics of the place. Was thinking as you showed thr swans on the stream how English n idyllic it looked..😊 Where I live in the valleys we have nothing like that - just hills n valleys. Nice bimble that looked, good one. atb Alan

Much application of the grey cells required to shoot in BNW Russ and a great way to fixate and focus on compositional and contrasting elements in your scenes. I've been out twice recently, once into Manchester for some cityscape nightscapes and also down at the coast - both times I was in BNW mode and loved the challenge. Really enjoyed the wander around the Suffolk countryside and seeing the images you captured. I'm just waiting for a misty morning to get out into my local woodlands !! All the best mate.

Some of the best images I have seen from you Russ, images at 4.30 -5.00 are fantastic, difficult to pick a winner but I think for me it is the image at 4.54. Thanks, John. About a third of the coastline in southern England is being constantly eroded, especially along the East Coast. The recent storms, especially in the last 5 to 10 years, have accelerated the erosion. I don't remember there being so many winter storms growing up in the 80s when I lived near to the coast.

Why so many derelict groins? Were they once private little docks or jetties that haven't been maintained over time? Brilliant photography subjects though! In Florida it was hard to find things like those - they would tear them down and replace them right away. Some really great images in this film Russ. Love the long exposures as well as the more textured shots along the beach. Amazing colors on those fallen trees! Great video Russ, really enjoyed the look at this beach! Hope you are doing well!

    • @RussWeymouthPhotography
      @RussWeymouthPhotography 7 місяців тому

As I understand, the groynes are there to keep the beaches stable, stopping sand and pebble movement on an eroding coastline. They are left to fend for themselves. They are very common around the English coastline. The erosion is getting worse with all the recent storms.

It's sad to see how we - the humans are capable of spoiling the pristine and beautiful nature surrounding us. Regarding your find, though, the mystery reveals itself ( at 3:05 ) and the rusted carcass in the forest happens to belong to what used to be a 1995 - 1999 Vauxhall Vectra hatchback vehicle. But than again , let's embrace the beautiful autumnal show the forest prepared for us . Cheers, Sorin .

What a strange sight and what a strange place for it to end up! Can you imagine being out for a quiet walk in nature and coming across people in a flatbed truck dumping a car in the middle of the forest?? Or worse yet, sleeping in a tent and waking up to that in the middle of the night?? My curious mind thinks there might be a story there. And for some reason I would feel compelled to let the police know it's there. That's how unsolved murders get solved. Maybe they dumped it because it's evidence in some way. Or maybe I just watch too many true crime shows lol. Incidentally, the panorama of the oaks was stunning.

Russ, I really enjoyed the video. That is a beautiful location and I can definitely see how it reminds one of the Shire. Your photos were fantastic. I especially liked the photo of the slate mill at 5:03 and the waterfall at 8:44. I am glad I am not the only one who has to do several takes. It takes me several times just to get out a simple sentence sometimes. 😂 I haven't been watching much UA-cam overall in a while so it is good to see one of your videos again. All the best to you, Russ.

Snowdonia, the name itself is appealing

Actually, since February 2023, Wales has changed the name to Eryri. A lot of people outside of Wales still know it as Snowdonia (and it's easier to pronounce).

@@RussWeymouthPhotography thanks, good to know. Eryri sounds icelandic to me, as I speak french, it's easy to pronounce

What a stunning landscape Russ. You did well dealing with the sun and shade in the first part of the video. Love the image of the sheep under the tree! You really got some wonderful mood in the latter half of the film, capturing some wonderful images. I could watch videos from Wales all day long, absolutely stunning. Great work as always, really enjoyed it!
