@@ulknatmelknatu that is incorrect. I only have 3 coins from the treasure that was dug up. There was estimated to have been at least 1000 coins dug up in 1962. Some say even thousands. That was quite a bit of money back then. That doesn’t include the gold that he had buried. He told his wife where the gold was fortunately.

Super cool, thanks for sharing that! I lived in Springfield, MO at one time and I remember visiting multiple times the site of the Battle of Wilson’s Creek, which was in that area, and the Civil War history in Missouri was very divided as you described. Coins tell such stories, many we will never know, glad this one came out though, and that you’re a part of it’s continued heritage!
@@SilverBoyBlues that’s awesome to hear! Yes, I went on a field trip to Wilson Creek when I was younger. I live in Springfield so that’s cool that you lived there at one time as well! Great piece of history, especially when you know your family was a part of it,I know many Confederates buried or hid their money for fear the union would confiscated it,what you have would be nice in a shadow box, keep up the great videos and have a blessed day!
@@mikesemones8333 thank you! Yes, it was definitely a crazy time during the civil war and I know Wilson Tilley was probably concerned about the Union taking his money. I wish he wasn’t a confederate sympathizer but I know at that time there was a heavy split in our country. It’s good to know a little history about my family even if it’s not the most positive history out there.
I would still get them graded even if they were cleaned. The reason why the slab protects the coin is that it also authenticates that the coin is real and not a counterfeit. It also makes them harder to lose and just helps preserve the coin.

@@6393-h9k any off the coins I mentioned I wouldn’t recommend grading unless you have the 2021 d Morgan dollar. That coin in ms 70 is actually worth good money. @@RichardRoche-c2w haha yeah. I definitely think most modern silver proofs should be bought for around melt value. They are cool but often way over price especially from the US mint.

I bought a hundred of those Ike dollars I guess that was a bad move😊. As for everything else the mint can go to.... if it's a Morgan and it's not graded or not extremely rare key date I'm not buying. In fact I'm at the point where I'm done collecting for a while. All this crap is overpriced all of it
@@hunterfalck235 I’m sorry to hear you are taking a break from coin collecting but I understand. The prices have definitely increased a decent bit over that past few years. Did you buy regular circulated Ike’s or a bunch of proof examples. I have hundreds of business struck Ike’s I have gotten from the bank for face value. Those are fun to collect as long as you can get them for face value.
@jadonnoble5621 it was a bag of circulated 1972 Ike's p&d and I also got a single S silver edition so I would have all three
@ that’s pretty cool. Nothing wrong with collecting some Ike’s .

@@glennplatvoet7111 yes, I know most of the coins I mentioned were more expensive. I also think common Morgan and Peace dollars are great to collect as well.
Yup its a shame i stopedwhen the golden president coins that look like crap cane out never going to be worth anything if its not silver or gold its a looser
@@glennplatvoet7111 yes I agree. All of the modern coinage just doesn’t hold the value like the older stuff does. If you are buying for the silver or gold content then modern is definitely still okay.
You are buying the coin, not the dealer, so I’m glad you got that coin, it’s really nice, and it’s the birth year of my mom actually, but that truly stinks that the guy has to act that way and lie about things. I see that with online sellers sometimes, where they don’t realize they are showing their ignorance and lies to someone who knows better
@@SilverBoyBlues thank you for the feedback. That’s cool that your mom was born that year. Yes, I definitely try to buy the coin and not focus so much on the dealer but it is unfortunate that many dealers feel the need to lie in order to sell their coins:(
Great coins but in reality the average collector can’t afford those coins. But they are nice, if you can afford them. I assume these type vjds are not for the a average collector.
@@curiousrelic yes, this is true. I focus more on higher end coins (usually $200 and up). This being said all the common Morgan and peace dollars are great areas to collect and are pretty affordable for most collectors.
It has been 9 years since he bought this eik dollar and dont expect a profit until 25 years,I have always put my change into cubbys caKE pans and German beer mugs in nick nack containers and just a couple of years ago I started to notice it was time to see what all i had and at that time everyone said dont waste your time on pennys none of them will ever be worth over a nickel and as I was putting them in order I noticed I really enjoy the pennys so I decided to ignore the spend it all crowd, and then they said those 66 to 67 coins with no mint marks will always be wasted space, Just spend them.I ignored them again, now they are saying the America the beautiful quarters are too many we will never get a profit from them. Again ignore them I gotta say when they tell me these are the ones to not buy, I will be the one buying them. So lower the prices and give them to me! and we will see!
@@Airroll777 haha that is one way to look at it. I hope the prices go up for you in the future!
The IS Mint is a Money Grab good point
@@johnclark9908 yes it is! It’s crazy how much they charge for subpar coins:(
Well his opinion sucks !
@@charlesstanley7900 who’s opinion are you talking about? lol
That video , no logical reason to advise against buying modern coins . They allways increase in value and retain face forever .
@@charlesstanley7900 unfortunately, this is not true. Obviously any coin can be sold for its face value but the values of many modern coins, especially from the US mint sell for way less than what you pay for from the mint. This is especially true the longer you hold most of these coins.
First off you only collect Eisenhower dollars if you're into Eisenhower dollars no one does it cuz they think they're going to get a payout on those particular coins and furthermore they will at least give you the melt value minimum at a coin shop for them because they're still 40% silver.. and for those who collect Peace dollars and Morgan dollars the reason you would want to buy a modern one is because just that it's a modern one you can't buy an original one that says 2021 and so on.. they're a little overpriced I agree with that but so far I haven't lost any money on them and so remember kids buy what you like
@@Tim99-lg7kn thank you for the feedback. They actually only made a select few Ike’s in 40% silver. They were only minted in San Francisco. Most are fleas only but there is really nothing wrong with collecting them especially if you can get them for face value. My main point was to try not to make the majority collection modern proofs. The modern Morgan and peace dollars would have been better if the mint only brought them back for a year instead of coming out with them every year. At this point it is definitely best to buy the original minted Morgan and peace dollars. At the end of the day you can collect what you like tho.
Don’t buy slabs!!!!
@@SweetSilver805 I think it depends what you are buying. On higher end coins I like to buy graded because it helps define the value of the coin and determine if it is authentic or not. On coins that are worth $100 or more it can definitely be worth buying graded.
Why is it so difficult just to get common date Eisenhowers. Of course, 1971 through 1978, but so many people want at least double face for them. Again, even just circulated Eisenhowers are tough to get.
@@bobegan2121 I would recommend going to your local banks and asking for them. That’s how I acquired all of my circulated Ike’s. If you search hard enough you can get them for face value but they are definitely harder to find.
I’m sorry, it’s Rick Tomaska. I love watching his shows, the coins are all very over priced, but he is, however, very very informative. He does have lots of good stuff, and he is very informative.
@@bobegan2121 interesting, thank you for the info
Don’t tell the guy on the Saturday or Sunday morning shows about that, I think his name is Rick Kovacevic, he says they’re gonna be worth $20,000, the set of six.
Haha that’s crazy. I doubt they will ever be worth that much.
Just subscribed to your channel. I only have one ike it's a 71s brown ike. The reason why I bought it is because it does have the peg leg, and again, I just had to have it. I will probably buy one 1976 proof set just to have a nice example. I know they will never increase in value, but at the same time, they probably will not get any cheaper either. You are right don't over buy them. Good advice.
@@williamfender661 thank you so much for the support! There is really nothing wrong with buying some proof Ike’s. They are definitely cool to collect and are cheap. I just think you shouldn’t make this area a huge part of your collection. I definitely don’t think they will drop in value and some of the bicentennial coinage might go up for a short time with the 250th anniversary coming up next year.
I know what you are saying. I recently purchased my first 1883 CC GSA slabed in the box and certificate for $325. I know Grey sheet is way less than that, but this coin was talking to me with its luster and overall clean look. I just had to have it, and it's my first GSA CC. Some coins just catch your eye, and I had to buy it because if i went home without it, I would kick myself in the rear and probably not find another one for the same price. Has this happened to you?
@@williamfender661 haha I know exactly what you are talking about. There are definitely some coins that are just extremely nice and are worth paying a little bit more for. I’ve definitely done this in the last especially for some really nice toning or eye appeal. Congrats on getting your first CC!
Just found your channel today. Amazing Videos man. Big fan now lol
@@doxer678 thank you for watching and for your support! I’m glad you like the videos:)
You are right. I bought 10 2023 p peace dollars graded MS70 in CAC slabs for $68 each from a dealer. I took a liking to them so I bought them. This is way under what the mint sold them for and graded. The mintages aren't terribly high, so I don't understand. What's your thoughts.
@@williamfender661 that’s interesting. I didnt know they were that cheap. I think the issue is that the US mint decided to make these coins every year so they are becoming less desirable. If they would have just minted them in 2021 then they would have faired in value better. I think you definitely got a good deal tho. I doubt they will get much cheaper but I think they are becoming less desirable due to them not being a limited release like they were originally going to be.
Here's why I don't agree with you (not fully). IKE's were only minted from 1971-1978. The reverse of a PF-69 DCam Silver IKE is ABSOLUTELY beautiful! The fact that that they were the last "big dollar" minted makes them special too. The #1 reason (for me) is the fact that they're still VERY affordable! The world of Morgan's, Peace Dollars, etc., etc. (Graded) is getting VERY, VERY expensive to buy these days...premiums are insane (graded)!!! Not every coin needs to be a "financial homerun"....at the end of the day, it's still a hobby.
@@b-man1232 thank you for the feedback. I agree with you an Ike dollars overall. I actually have collected a bunch of Ike dollars over the years. I got basically all of them from the bank. I was mostly talking about modern proof coins in general. The Ike I used was probably not the best example to make my point but I think it’s best to not make modern proofs the majority of your collection. Having some of these coins is fine tho because they are very cool and affordable.
Good insight and information Jadon, thank you.
@@RealtorInThe828 thank you for watching!
I am a collector and learning more every day. I have the Silver Bi-Centennial set with the little book holder that you put the coins in (they are not in the book holder) and I bought them just because I liked them. I knew they wouldn't go up in value. And I also have the 2021 Morgan(P) and 2021 Peace dollars as well as the 2023 Rev. Proofs. Never plan on selling them. I just like them. I guess I'm don't look at any of it as an investment. Just a hobby. Great video and fantastic advise. Glad I stumbled across it.
@@vinnieg.6746 thank you for your response. I also have the 2023 reverse proof set. There is nothing wrong with having these coins and I agree it’s best to collect what you like. I just think these areas are not the best to focus your collection on.
@@jadonnoble5621 I agree with that. I have a lot of fun little sets that are just cool. My Morgan's and Type set keep me busy trying to fill the books. And I know there are a few I'll never have in the collection. But I keep looking. I'll you what I really like are "well loved" coins. And old holed coins are the best. I like to wonder where they've been and what they bought along the way. The monetary side is secondary for me.
@@vinnieg.6746 the history of the coins is always great to think about:) thank you for sharing!
I don't know how old the OP is, sounds fairly young. I've been collecting since October, 1986 and he using the word COLLECT and then talking about it from an INVESTOR standpoint. Collect whatever you please. But make up your mind whether or not you're a collector or an investor. You can't be so/so or you'll get crushed. If you want to invest, then put your money in an INVESTMENT with underlying cash flows as they nearly all beat the coin market.
@@shawnangie1 thank you for the feedback. I am a collector first but I also look at my collection as somewhat of an investment. I think you should collect what you like but I also think you should know what the value is of what you want to buy and make sure you do not overpay for it. I also think you should find different areas of coin collecting that you like that hold their value over time and should appreciate. I have seen so many collections where someone thought they had a really nice collection of mostly US mint coins and modern commemoratives from tv ads to only find out that they got taken advantage of and overpaid for all of it.
Collect what you like! I agree there are pitfalls and lessons to be learned in coin collecting but if you’re happy with a coin/set then buy it!
@@BearSawicki this is very true. I mostly was just going off of my experience especially on the US mint coins. When I evaluate a collection that has US mint modern coinage and I tell the collector or son/daughter of the collector the value they are usually disappointed that they wasted all their money on coins that didn’t gain or hold their value.
@@jadonnoble5621It’s always a crap shoot unless you really like specific coins. That’s what makes it fun. Some of us just aren’t interested in making huge financial gains or simply just for investments. We’re driven by different motivating factors. Who knows maybe we’ll just get lucky or have a nice conversation piece to talk with grandkids about during family reunions or Thanksgiving.
